What home tuition costs in Mumbai

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Physics home tutor in Mumbai: one clear target, and a slot that survives the commute

Senior physics in Mumbai serves many masters. A Class 12 student may be writing a CBSE, ISC or Maharashtra HSC board paper, preparing for JEE, NEET or the state's own entrance test, or working through the IB or IGCSE. Each goal rewards a different kind of practice, and each student's free hours are squeezed between school, coaching and a train home. NXTutors finds two or three physics tutors who teach your child's goal and can reach your neighbourhood at the hour you have. You see each fee before meeting anyone, and the first class is a free demo.

What is the physics tuition for: boards, JEE or NEET?

Chapters overlap across all of them; the scoring rules do not. Agree the main goal with the tutor at the first session, because it shapes every worksheet that follows.

  • Board paper. Written derivations, labelled diagrams and case-based reading, practised against the board's own marking scheme.
  • JEE Main. In the 2026 pattern, physics was 25 of Paper 1's 75 questions: 20 multiple-choice and 5 with a numerical answer, scored +4 for a correct response and −1 for a wrong one. Speed on multi-step problems and careful review of every mock matter most.
  • JEE Advanced. Open in 2026 only to the top 2,50,000 JEE Main candidates. Problems join several ideas at once, so past Advanced papers are the core material.
  • NEET (UG). A pen-and-paper test; in 2026, physics had 45 of the 180 questions and 180 of the 720 marks, with the same +4 and −1. Accuracy on NCERT concepts beats risky attempts.

The conducting body sets each entrance syllabus, and it can keep topics a board has dropped, so check the latest bulletin at nta.ac.in before trimming a chapter. Useful reading: the JEE physics topic-wise guide, the high-yield NEET physics chapters and our look at coaching against a home tutor for JEE.

Where do the 70 theory marks sit in CBSE Class 12 physics?

For 2026-27 the sample paper repeats last session's design, and the fourteen NCERT chapters fall into four blocks.

CBSE Class 12 physics theory, 2026-27: the four mark blocks and where a Mumbai tutor should spend the weeks
BlockMarksWhere tuition time goes
Electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, induction and alternating current33Nearly half the paper; field and circuit problems every week from April
Optics and electromagnetic waves18The largest single block; ray diagrams and lens problems drawn to scale
Dual nature, atoms and nuclei12Short numericals that reward clean formula work
Semiconductor electronics7Diode behaviour and characteristic curves; transistors and logic gates have left the syllabus

The 33 questions come in five sections. Section A has sixteen one-mark items, twelve multiple-choice and four assertion–reason. Section B asks five two-mark questions, C seven three-mark questions, D two case studies of four marks and E three long answers of five. Recall accounts for only about 38% of the marks, so a tutor who mostly dictates notes is working on a small slice of the paper. Physical constants are printed on the paper, and calculators are not allowed. There is one main board exam in Class 12; the 2027 date sheet is not out, so watch cbse.gov.in. Our Class 12 physics strategies list the derivations that keep returning, and the Class 12 physics tutor page plans the year.

How are the 30 practical marks earned, and what can be prepared at home?

CBSE Class 12 physics practical: the parts of the 30 marks and how a home tutor can help with each
PartMarksHome preparation
Two experiments, one from each section7 eachAim, circuit or ray diagram and observation table rehearsed on paper
Practical record5A check that every entry is complete and correctly set out
One activity3The purpose of the activity explained in a sentence or two
Investigatory project3A manageable topic and a clear report, written by the student
Viva on all of the above5Mock questions on errors, precautions and what a graph's slope means

The record needs at least eight experiments and six activities, split evenly between the two sections, plus the project report. Apparatus stays at school, but the thinking behind each reading can be practised at a kitchen table.

What about HSC, ISC and Maharashtra's own entrance test?

Many Mumbai students take physics on the Maharashtra State Board, which sets the HSC examination at the end of Class 12 and prescribes its own textbooks. We do not summarise its paper here; the board publishes the current scheme on its official website. A good HSC tutor teaches from those state textbooks and works through the board's own question papers. Maharashtra also runs its own entrance test, MHT CET, conducted by the State CET Cell for engineering, pharmacy and related courses; its syllabus is published by the Cell, so check the official information bulletin before planning around it.

ISC physics, set by CISCE, combines a theory paper with practical and project work, and examiners expect fuller explanations than a short CBSE line. Confirm that the tutor knows the syllabus for your child's exam year.

What should IB and IGCSE families check?

The IB introduced a new physics guide, first examined in May 2025. The old options and Paper 3 have gone, and the content now sits in five themes, labelled A to E. The IB suggests 150 teaching hours at SL and 240 at HL; two written papers together make up 80% of the grade and the scientific investigation the other 20%. The investigation has to be the student's own, so a tutor can talk through a plan but must not write any part of it. Our IB physics SL and HL guide explains the new course.

Cambridge IGCSE physics comes in Core and Extended tiers. Students who move from IGCSE into a Class 11 board course often need early work on vectors, graphs and derivations. IB and IGCSE specialists are fewer than board tutors, so name the course when you first ask; if none can travel to you, pair an online specialist with a local tutor who checks written work.

How should a physics numerical be written to collect every mark?

Many physics marks are lost in the layout of an answer rather than the idea behind it. A tutor should make one routine automatic for every target. It begins with a sketch: a free-body diagram, ray diagram or circuit with directions marked, before any formula. Next comes a single line naming the law being used, which is where board marking starts. Then the substitution, with units carried on each line so that a slipped power of ten stands out. Last, a sense check: a sensible sign, a believable size, and a unit that matches the quantity asked for.

Bring the last two class tests to the free demo. A capable tutor will read them and tell you which of those four habits is missing before starting anything new.

Can a physics tutor keep an evening slot in your part of Mumbai?

Senior students often get home after coaching, so physics classes run late, and whether a tutor can hold that hour depends on the route. Six neighbourhoods, from the island city to Navi Mumbai, show the range. Browse tutors near you on our Mumbai page.

Island city

Worli, on the western shore of the island city, mixes new high-rise towers with older buildings. Metro Line 3 stops at Worli, and Lower Parel and Mahalaxmi on the Western line are the nearest suburban stations, followed by a short taxi or auto. Large towers register visitors at the lobby. Roads towards the Sea Link and Lower Parel are busiest at office start and finish, so plan around those hours.

Western suburbs

Goregaon East runs from the railway to the Western Express Highway and on towards Aarey and Film City. Goregaon station serves the Western and Harbour lines, and Metro Line 7 has Aarey and Goregaon East stations. Register the tutor at the gate or on the visitor app. Andheri East mixes towers, cooperative societies and older colonies among offices. Line 1 runs along the Andheri-Kurla Road, and the underground Line 3 has served Marol Naka, MIDC Andheri and SEEPZ since October 2024; office traffic on that road peaks at the start and end of the working day.

Central suburbs, Thane and Navi Mumbai

Ghatkopar is an interchange where the Central line meets Metro Line 1, so a tutor from Andheri or Versova can arrive without changing at Dadar. Ghodbunder Road in Thane is lined with high-rise townships; Metro Line 4 is still under construction, so tutors come by road and should be registered with security in advance. Nerul in Navi Mumbai sits where the Harbour, Trans-Harbour and Port lines meet, which widens the pool of tutors who can reach it by train.

On the evenings when coaching finishes late, one online session a week with the same tutor keeps the plan on track without anyone crossing the city at night.

Is Class 11 the right time to start physics tuition?

Usually it is the least expensive moment. Class 11 moves quickly from measurement and motion to Newton's laws, energy, rotation and gravitation, and each chapter leans on vectors, graphs and rates of change, sometimes before maths class has covered them. Class 12 then reuses the same tools for charges and fields. A term spent making components, slopes and areas under graphs routine saves a great deal of repair later. Families still choosing a stream can read the Class 11 stream choice guide; the Class 11 physics tutor page covers the year, and the national physics home tutor page gives the wider view.

How much should you budget for a physics tutor in Mumbai?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor quotes their own rate, shaped by the goal, the tutor's experience at that level, the evening journey to you and how many sessions you book. The same tutor may charge less online. All fees appear before the demo, and our Mumbai home tuition fees guide covers the rest.

How do you book a physics demo in Mumbai?

Send us the class and board, whether the aim is the board paper, JEE, NEET or MHT CET, your neighbourhood and nearest station, and the evenings left after school and coaching. We reply with two or three physics tutors and their fees, and you choose one for a free demo class. If the match is wrong, try another tutor from the list; changing tutor later is free as well. When no suitable tutor can travel at your hour, we suggest online or mixed sessions. NXTutors is based in Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India.

Physics teachers who live in Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai can browse student requests on the Mumbai tuition jobs page.

Physics Home Tutor in Mumbai: common questions

What does a physics home tutor in Mumbai charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors quote their own rates, and you can compare every shortlisted fee before the demo.

Which block of CBSE Class 12 physics carries the most marks?

Electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, induction and alternating current together carry 33 of the 70 theory marks. Optics with electromagnetic waves follows at 18, dual nature, atoms and nuclei at 12, and semiconductor electronics at 7. Transistors and logic gates are out of the syllabus, so skip notes that include them.

What must the Class 12 physics practical record contain?

At least eight experiments and six activities, divided equally between the two sections, plus the investigatory project report. The record earns 5 of the 30 practical marks; two experiments carry 7 each, one activity 3, the project 3 and the viva 5, so preparation for the viva matters.

Do you have physics tutors for the Maharashtra HSC board?

Yes. We look for HSC physics tutors near you across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. Choose one who teaches from the state-prescribed textbooks and the board's own question papers, and check the current HSC scheme on the board's official website. Students also aiming for MHT CET should read the State CET Cell's bulletin.

How much physics is in JEE Main and NEET?

In the 2026 JEE Main Paper 1, physics was 25 of 75 questions, 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical. In NEET (UG) 2026 it was 45 of 180 questions and 180 of 720 marks. Both scored +4 for a right answer and −1 for a wrong one. Check each year's bulletin.

Has IB Diploma physics changed recently?

Yes. A new guide was first examined in May 2025. The options and Paper 3 have been removed, and the syllabus is organised in five themes, A to E. Two written papers make up 80% of the grade and the student's own scientific investigation the remaining 20%. Check revision books are current.

Can a physics tutor reach Ghodbunder Road in the evening?

Yes, though Metro Line 4 along the road is still under construction, so tutors come by road. Register the tutor with your township's security in advance, and fix the class away from the evening rush on the highway. On late coaching days, one online session a week keeps the plan going.

Should physics tuition begin in Class 11 or wait for Class 12?

Class 11 is usually better value. Its chapters on motion, forces, energy and rotation depend on vectors, graphs and rates of change, and Class 12 electrostatics uses the same tools again. Securing them early costs less than repairing two years of physics just before the board exam.
