What home tuition costs in Mumbai

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Economics tuition in Mumbai: six syllabuses, one subject name

"Economics" on a Mumbai timetable can mean an HSC paper written from the state textbook, CBSE statistics and microeconomics, an ISC paper of long structured answers, Cambridge data-response essays or an IB portfolio of news commentaries. The ideas overlap; the way marks are earned does not. That is why we ask for the exact course before we look for a tutor, and why a good HSC economics teacher is not automatically the right person for an IB Higher Level student two floors up. Below: what each course asks for, how tutors reach the city's zones, when to go online, and what to look for in the free demo. Our national economics home tutor guide covers the subject in more depth.

Which economics course does your child take?

Senior-school economics in Mumbai: assessment in brief and the skill tutoring most often targets
CourseAssessment in briefSkill that most often needs work
Maharashtra State Board, HSCThe board's own paper from the state textbook; pattern on the board's official websiteComplete, well-set-out answers in the medium of the paper
CBSE Economics (030), Classes 11–1280 theory marks plus a 20-mark project each yearClass 11 statistics working; Class 12 national income numericals
ISC Economics (856), Classes 11–1220 compulsory short-answer marks, five 12-mark questions from eight, two 10-mark projectsFinishing long answers inside three hours
Cambridge IGCSE Economics (0455)A one-hour multiple-choice paper (30%) and a two-hour structured paper (70%)Using economic terms in place of everyday words
Cambridge AS & A Level Economics (9708)Multiple choice plus data response and essays; A Level essays are unstructuredPlanning an essay without parts to guide it
IB Diploma Economics, SL and HLPapers 1 and 2 for both, Paper 3 for HL only, and an internally assessed portfolioLinking a news extract to theory and a key concept

Families who are still deciding between commerce and other streams can read our Class 11 stream choice guide. It is written for Gurugram, but the questions a student should ask before picking economics are the same anywhere.

What should an HSC economics tutor know?

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education sets the HSC at the end of Class 12, and most State Board commerce students study Classes 11 and 12 in a junior college. Economics there follows the board's own textbook, so the tutor should teach from that book and practise on past HSC papers rather than on CBSE sample papers. We leave the paper pattern to the board, which publishes and revises it, and we ask families to confirm details on its official website. Tell us the medium your child writes in; definitions and diagrams have to be labelled in the language of the paper.

Where do CBSE and ISC students usually need help?

CBSE Class 11 splits the 80 theory marks evenly. Statistics for Economics carries 40: collecting, organising and presenting data, then statistical tools and their interpretation. Introductory Microeconomics carries the other 40, most of it on consumer equilibrium and demand (14) and producer behaviour and supply (14). Students who dropped maths after Class 10 are often anxious about statistics. It is careful arithmetic in tables, not advanced maths, and the curriculum asks students to interpret results as well as compute them.

CBSE Class 12 pairs Introductory Macroeconomics (40) with Indian Economic Development (40). In macro, determination of income and employment is the largest unit at 12 marks, with national income at 10; in Indian Economic Development, current challenges carry 20. The project, worth 20, is a single piece of 3,500 to 4,000 words with a viva worth 8 of those marks. A tutor can explain the economics behind a chosen topic and rehearse the viva; the research and writing stay the student's own.

ISC covers basic concepts, Indian economic development and statistics in Class 11, and in Class 12 moves through microeconomic theory, income and employment, money and banking, the balance of payments and exchange rates, public finance and national income. Because 60 of the 80 theory marks come from 12-mark questions, timed practice of full answers matters more here than anywhere else. Our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Mumbai look at both boards across subjects.

What changes for IB and Cambridge students?

The Mumbai hub lists IB and Cambridge IGCSE among the boards families here follow, and economics is where these programmes differ most from the Indian boards. In the IB Diploma, SL students sit Paper 1 (an extended response paper, 30%) and Paper 2 (data response, 40%); HL students add Paper 3, a policy paper, and the weights shift to 20%, 30% and 30%. Both levels submit a portfolio of three commentaries on published news extracts, drawn from different units and using different key concepts. A tutor may teach the skill on practice articles and explain the criteria, but must never write or rewrite the commentaries.

At Cambridge, IGCSE 0455 rewards precise terms and short structured answers. At AS Level (9708) the essays come in two parts that guide the structure; at A Level they are unstructured, so planning becomes the skill being tested. For international-board help across subjects, see our IB tutors in Mumbai page.

Is economics part of CUET?

NTA's CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin lists Economics / Business Economics (code 309) among the domain subjects, each tested with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus. HSC and ISC students should compare that syllabus with their own course and read the bulletin for their year of application. Objective questions reward fast recognition of concepts and quick, accurate calculation, which a tutor can add once board answers are secure.

How does an economics tutor reach you in Mumbai?

We cannot promise an economics specialist on every railway line; any family can request one, and we search outward from the line that serves your building. Here is how that works by corridor.

Island city and the Western line

For South Mumbai homes such as Malabar Hill, tutors come from the north: Line 3 now runs underground to Cuffe Parade, and the hill itself is reached by taxi or bus. In Worli, Dadar and Central Mumbai, Dadar's place on both main lines widens the choice. North of Bandra, the Vile Parle and Juhu zone needs an agreed drop-off for Juhu, which has no station; tutors use Vile Parle or Santacruz plus an auto, or the D N Nagar metro. In Andheri and Jogeshwari, Lokhandwala towers have tight parking, so a tutor arriving on Line 2A is usually more punctual than one driving. Further north, the Bandra, Khar and Santacruz, Goregaon and Malad and Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar zones work most smoothly when you tell us which side of the tracks you live on.

Central and Harbour lines

In Chembur, Ghatkopar and Powai, a tutor for Powai usually rides to Kanjurmarg and takes an auto, and complexes there almost always need gate registration. Mulund and Bhandup, on the Central line before Thane, are easy to direct a tutor to on foot from the station; give the building name and say which side you are on.

Thane and Navi Mumbai

In Thane, homes near the station in Naupada are a short walk from the train, while Ghodbunder Road is better served by a tutor from your own stretch of the road. In Navi Mumbai, give the node, sector and building number, and expect us to look first in your own or a neighbouring node.

The full list of neighbourhoods is on our Mumbai home tuition page.

Should economics lessons be at home or online?

Economics travels well over a screen. Diagrams can be drawn on a shared whiteboard or a writing tablet, news articles opened together, and essays marked on screen before the next lesson. For IB and A Level students, online lessons are often how a family reaches a tutor who has taught that exact course, wherever in India they live. Home lessons still suit younger IGCSE students, students who lose focus on a screen, and CBSE Class 11 statistics, where a tutor beside the notebook catches arithmetic slips as they happen. Many Mumbai families mix both: home on a weekend, online on a weekday evening when traffic makes a visit unreliable. Read more in our home or online tutor article.

What should you look for in the economics demo?

  1. The tutor asks for the course and level (HSC, CBSE, ISC, IGCSE, AS, A Level, IB SL or HL) before starting.
  2. Your child draws the diagrams, with axes, curves and shifts labelled.
  3. The tutor asks "which effect is bigger, and why?" rather than accepting a list of points.
  4. Examples are recent and relevant to the topic.
  5. For CBSE, numericals are set out step by step; for IB, the tutor can explain the commentary criteria and says plainly they will not write them.
  6. You leave with a specific practice task and a way to check it.

If the fit is wrong, tell us and we arrange the next tutor on your shortlist; switching is free. More questions are in our demo class checklist.

What does it cost, and how do you start?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees and you see each one before the demo. Our Mumbai home tuition fees guide and pricing guide explain the range.

Economics Tutor in Mumbai: common questions

Do you have economics tutors for IB SL and HL in Mumbai?

Families can request one, and we match on the level. HL students sit a policy paper, Paper 3, that SL students do not, and both submit a portfolio of three news commentaries. When nobody suitable can reach your building at your slot, online lessons open up IB economics tutors across India.

My child dropped maths. Is CBSE Class 11 statistics a problem?

Usually not. Statistics for Economics carries 40 of the 80 theory marks in Class 11, but it asks for careful arithmetic in tables and for interpreting the result, not for advanced maths. A tutor who sets out each calculation step by step can make it one of the steadier parts of the paper.

Can a tutor help with the CBSE economics project?

A tutor can explain the economics behind the topic your child chooses and rehearse the viva, which carries 8 of the 20 project marks. CBSE expects one project of 3,500 to 4,000 words each session, and the research and writing must be the student's own work, not the tutor's.

Can you find an economics tutor for the HSC in Mumbai?

Yes, you can request one. We look for tutors who teach from the State Board's own economics textbook and practise with past HSC papers, and we ask which medium your child writes in. The board publishes and revises the paper pattern, so take any detail from its official website.

We live in Powai. How does a tutor usually get there?

Powai has no railway station, so tutors usually ride to Kanjurmarg and take an auto, or drive along the link road. Complexes there almost always register visitors at the gate, so share the tutor's name before the demo. Online lessons are a sensible option for IB or A Level economics.

Is economics included in CUET?

Economics / Business Economics is a domain subject in NTA's CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin, with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus. Students on other boards should compare that syllabus with their own course, and check the bulletin for the year they apply, since NTA publishes a new one each cycle.

How much does an economics tutor in Mumbai cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET toward the upper end. IB HL specialists can charge more. In Mumbai the journey at your hour and the number of weekly lessons also matter, and every fee is shown before the demo.
