The final school year in Mumbai packs two goals into the same months. One is the board result: the HSC for State Board students, or the CBSE, ISC or IB Diploma finals. The other, for many, is an entrance test: MHT CET, JEE, NEET or CUET. Families who treat them as separate projects end up with two sets of classes and no time to revise. The HSC is conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education through nine divisional boards, Mumbai among them, with a main and a supplementary examination each year. Papers follow the state textbooks, and the science chapters overlap heavily with MHT CET, JEE and NEET. Take subject patterns and practical requirements from mahahsscboard.in and the junior college, not from older guidebooks.
Mathematics carries 80 theory marks and 20 internal. Physics and chemistry are 70 theory and 30 practical, so the lab file, project and viva are worth real marks. Papers rest on the NCERT books; our CBSE Class 12 maths guide covers calculus and algebra in depth.
ISC Mathematics (860) is an 80-mark paper plus 20 marks of project work, and cannot be combined with ISC Applied Mathematics. For the 2027 and 2028 exams, CISCE lists seven compulsory units in one paper with no Section B or C choice; calculus alone is 35 of the 80 marks. A visiting examiner conducts the project viva.
Subjects are graded 1 to 7, with up to three further points from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, for a maximum of 45; at least 24 points is among the pass criteria. The maths exploration is 20% of the grade at SL and HL. The new Extended Essay, first assessed in May 2027, runs to 4,000 words with a 500-word reflective statement.

JEE (Advanced), run through jeeadv.ac.in, was open in 2026 to the first 2,50,000 JEE (Main) candidates. CUET (UG), conducted by NTA, is used for undergraduate admission to Central Universities and participating universities and matters most for commerce and humanities students. In lower classes a single tutor for maths and science can work. By Class 12, each subject runs deep enough that the tutor needs current knowledge of the board paper, the practical or coursework rules and, often, the entrance version of the same chapter. A strong HSC maths tutor may never have marked an ISC project; a CBSE chemistry tutor may not know IB internal assessment criteria.
Most students need one or two specialists, not four. Choose the subjects where college and mock tests lose marks.
Often, yes. Coaching supplies the entrance syllabus plan, test series and a peer benchmark; a one-to-one tutor handles what a large batch cannot: piled-up doubts, one lagging subject, board-style writing and practicals. It works when the tutor knows the coaching timetable and covers the same chapters that week. Signs a coached student needs a tutor too: test scores flat for several weeks, one subject far behind the others, college marks slipping, or solutions followed easily but problems impossible to start alone.
For the week itself: fix college hours, coaching days and the real travel time first; put tutor sessions on non-coaching days, at home or online so no extra journey is added; and keep two self-study blocks a week that nothing can take, for mock analysis and the doubt list.
