Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Chemistry in Classes 11 and 12 is really three subjects sharing a notebook. Physical chemistry is numerical, inorganic chemistry is careful recall with reasons, and organic chemistry is a web of reactions that only holds together with regular practice. Weakness in one branch rarely shows until the pre-boards. A chemistry tutor in Mumbai should know how the board divides the marks, what NEET, JEE or MHT CET add, and how to reach you after school or coaching. NXTutors sends a shortlist of two or three chemistry tutors matched to the course and to your neighbourhood. Each fee is on screen before any meeting; the opening lesson is a free demo.
The theory paper (043) is out of 70 and lasts three hours. All 33 questions, spread over five sections from A to E, are compulsory, some with internal choice, and neither calculators nor log tables may be used. The 2026-27 sample paper follows last session's design, and the curriculum fixes marks chapter by chapter.
| Branch and total | Chapters (marks) | Where marks usually slip |
|---|---|---|
| Organic, 33 | Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids (8); Biomolecules (7); Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, and Amines (6 each) | Conversions written without reagents or conditions |
| Physical, 23 | Electrochemistry (9); Solutions and Chemical Kinetics (7 each) | Units dropped mid-calculation, or arithmetic rushed with no calculator allowed |
| Inorganic, 14 | Coordination Compounds and the d- and f-Block Elements (7 each) | Trends stated without the reason behind them |
Organic chemistry is close to half the paper, which is why conversion chains belong in every week from the start of Class 12. Electrochemistry, at 9, is the heaviest single chapter, and most of its marks come from numericals. About 40% of the paper checks remembering and understanding; the other 60% asks students to apply, analyse or evaluate. The Class 12 organic and inorganic chemistry guide works through each chapter, and the Class 12 chemistry tutor page sets out the year. There is one main board exam in Class 12; check cbse.gov.in for the 2027 date sheet when it appears.
Hand-me-down notes are a common trap. For 2026-27, two areas are out of the Class 12 syllabus entirely: the solid state, plus Groups 15 to 18 of the p-block. Four others remain in the syllabus but are assessed by the school only: surface chemistry, the isolation of elements from ores, polymers, and chemistry in everyday life.
Entrance exams follow their own lists. NTA issues separate syllabi for NEET and JEE Main, and some material the board has dropped, p-block chemistry among it, can still appear there. Class 12 also stands on Class 11 foundations such as the mole concept, equilibrium and the first organic chapters; the Class 11 chemistry tutor page covers that year.
Many Mumbai students take chemistry on the Maharashtra State Board, which sets the HSC examination at the end of Class 12 and prescribes its own textbooks. The board publishes the current scheme on its official website, and we do not restate it here. What to ask for is a tutor who teaches from the state textbooks and practises with the board's own papers. Students aiming at MHT CET, the state entrance test run by the State CET Cell for engineering, pharmacy and related courses, should read the Cell's official bulletin before deciding what to revise.
ISC chemistry, from CISCE, pairs a theory paper with practical and project work, and examiners look for fuller explanation than a single-line reason. Confirm the tutor has taught the syllabus for your child's exam year.
NEET (UG) 2026 was a single written paper, 720 marks across 180 questions, and chemistry was a quarter of it: 45 questions carrying 180 marks. In JEE Main's 2026 Paper 1, chemistry filled 25 of the 75 questions, 20 multiple-choice in Section A and 5 numerical-value in Section B. Both awarded +4 for a correct answer and took off one mark for a wrong one. NTA confirms the pattern every year, so read the latest bulletin.
NEET rewards quick, exact recall of NCERT statements, especially in inorganic and organic chemistry, so a tutor should quiz straight from the textbook. JEE goes further, with mechanisms traced step by step and physical chemistry problems in several stages. Either way, bring a chapter to board standard first and add the entrance questions the same week. The practical is worth 30. Titration (volumetric analysis) and salt analysis are worth 8 apiece; the content-based experiment brings 6, the project 4, and the class record with the viva a final 4. This session's titration pits potassium permanganate against either oxalic acid or Mohr's salt (ferrous ammonium sulphate), and every student weighs out and makes up that standard solution personally.
Burettes and reagents stay in the school laboratory, yet much of the scoring is on paper. A tutor can practise the molarity calculation for the weighed sample, a tidy table of titration readings, the order of tests in salt analysis, preliminary first and confirmatory after, with why each comes where it does, and likely viva questions, such as why permanganate needs no separate indicator. A project the student can genuinely manage alone is worth settling early too.
Once a month, open the notebook. Equations should show conditions and catalysts where they matter, numericals should carry units throughout, and at least one sample-paper section should be scored against CBSE's official marking scheme. Should two of the three be absent by the half-yearly exam, talk to the tutor, or to us.
It changes who can come at the hour you need. Six neighbourhoods, from the island city through the suburbs to Thane and Navi Mumbai, show the variety. Compare tutors near you on our Mumbai page.
| Neighbourhood | Part of the city | Homes | How tutors arrive, and one tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matunga | Island city | Mostly older residential buildings, where the tutor goes straight to the flat, plus some redeveloped towers | Three stations: Matunga (Central), Matunga Road (Western) and King's Circle (Harbour). Weekday evening slots are popular, so ask early. |
| Kandivali West | Western suburbs | Cooperative-society apartments, from older blocks to towers along Link Road, with low-rise sector housing in Charkop | Kandivali station on the Western line, or the Line 2A metro; tell security the tutor's name before the first class. |
| Chembur | Central suburbs | Older bungalows, planned colonies and modern apartment buildings | Chembur and Tilak Nagar on the Harbour line; the Eastern Freeway and the link road to the western suburbs meet here too. |
| Bhandup | Central suburbs | Large gated complexes on former industrial land, beside older buildings near the station | Bhandup station on the Central line, then an auto; newer complexes register visitors and have little guest parking. |
| Vartak Nagar | Thane | An older housing board colony alongside newer high-rise towers | No station inside; tutors come by auto or bus from Thane station. Plan evenings around the office rush on Pokhran Road. |
| Airoli | Navi Mumbai | CIDCO sectors of cooperative societies and apartments, with some gated towers | Airoli station on the Trans-Harbour line from Thane, or by road over the Mulund–Airoli bridge. |
In the pre-board months, if a route looks uncertain, a week of two home classes plus one online class holds the plan together.
Yes, but they are fewer than board tutors, so ask early. IB Diploma chemistry, at SL or HL, is organised around two themes, structure and reactivity, and the scientific investigation must be the student's own: a tutor may question the plan but not add to it. Cambridge IGCSE sciences are tiered as Core or Extended, and students moving into a Class 11 board course afterwards usually benefit from an early run through moles, atomic structure and introductory organic chemistry. The tiers are explained in our comparison of Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE. Where no specialist can travel to you, an online specialist plus a local tutor to mark written work covers both needs.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own rate, which usually rises with the exam in view and the tutor's experience of it, and also reflects the evening journey and the number of sessions each week; online lessons with the same person may be cheaper. You see every fee ahead of the demo; our Mumbai home tuition fees guide has more.
Tell us the class, the board or course, the exam that matters most, the branch where marks leak, your neighbourhood and nearest station, and your free evenings. We send two or three matched chemistry tutors with their fees, and you pick one for a free demo class. If the fit is wrong, try the next tutor on your list; switching later costs nothing. If nobody suitable can get to you, we propose online or mixed lessons. From its office in Sector 66, Gurugram, NXTutors also teaches online anywhere in India, and the national chemistry home tutor page describes matching in other cities.
Chemistry teachers living in Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai can look at open student requests on the Mumbai tuition jobs page.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For chemistry in Mumbai, the exam in view, the evening journey and weekly sessions move the rate; online with the same tutor may cost less.
To get a chemistry home tutor matched in Mumbai, send the class, board, key exam, the branch where marks leak, your neighbourhood, nearest station and free evenings. We send two or three matched chemistry tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching later is free.
For Mumbai students, organic chemistry carries the most CBSE Class 12 marks, 33 of the 70 theory marks, ahead of physical at 23 and inorganic at 14. Electrochemistry is the heaviest single chapter at 9. Conversion practice every week pays off across the organic section.
For Mumbai students in 2026-27, the solid state and Groups 15 to 18 of the p-block are out of the CBSE Class 12 chemistry syllabus. Surface chemistry, isolation of elements, polymers and everyday-life chemistry are assessed by the school only. NEET and JEE follow separate lists.
For Mumbai students, the 30 CBSE chemistry practical marks split as titration 8, salt analysis 8, a content-based experiment 6, the project 4, and record with viva 4. This session's titration uses potassium permanganate against oxalic acid or Mohr's salt, so rehearse the molarity working at home.
Often a Mumbai chemistry tutor can cover HSC and MHT CET together if they teach from the Maharashtra State Board textbooks and the board's own papers. MHT CET is run by the State CET Cell, which publishes its syllabus and bulletin. Check the current version before planning revision.
For Mumbai aspirants, chemistry was a quarter of NEET (UG) 2026: 45 questions and 180 of the 720 marks. JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 had 25 chemistry questions of 75, with 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical. Both scored +4 and −1, and NTA confirms the pattern yearly.
A chemistry tutor can usually reach Vartak Nagar in Thane by auto or bus from Thane station, since there is no station inside. Plan evenings around the Pokhran Road office rush. Airoli has a station on the Trans-Harbour line, and tutors also drive over the Mulund–Airoli bridge.
For a Mumbai Class 12 student, home chemistry tuition helps most with numericals and written board answers marked on the spot. Online suits IB or IGCSE specialists who cannot travel and weeks when a route looks uncertain. In pre-board months, two home classes plus one online class keeps the plan together.
A Mumbai student should start chemistry tuition in Class 11 because moles, equilibrium and the first organic chapters return in Class 12. Gaps there later cost marks in solutions, electrochemistry and conversions. Closing them early lightens the board year and any NEET, JEE or MHT CET work.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
