Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Madurai, "Class 10 maths" can mean a State Board textbook in Tamil or English medium, an NCERT book for CBSE, a CISCE syllabus, or an IB or IGCSE course, and each rewards a different way of writing a solution. Geography matters too: the Vaigai splits the city into two halves, and a tutor living near Mattuthavani will not always want to cross a bridge at rush hour to reach Koodal Nagar. Tell NXTutors the syllabus and your locality, and we send two or three maths tutors who suit both. Every fee is visible before you meet anyone, and the opening class is a free demo.
Ajay Vatsyayan writes the guidance on IB, IGCSE and ISC maths, the courses he teaches; Abhinandan Tiwary writes the guidance on Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, the year he teaches. We ask first for the examining body, not the class, because it fixes the book, the layout of a full-marks answer and the practice material worth buying.
| Course | Examined by | How the year ends | Ask the tutor |

| CBSE Class 12 | CBSE | 38 compulsory questions for 80 marks, plus 20 internal | When does calculus start, and how long does it get? |
| ICSE Class 10, ISC Class 12 | CISCE | An 80-mark written paper with 20 marks of internal or project work | Do your notes follow the syllabus for my child's exam year? |

The Directorate of Government Examinations conducts the Tamil Nadu Board examinations for State Board students at Std X and Std XII. Its State Board of School Examinations was formed in 2011 by merging the earlier secondary and higher secondary boards, and the Directorate runs seven regional offices, one of them in Madurai. The SSLC and Higher Secondary examinations are held in March/June sessions, and in the SSLC timetable mathematics sits under Part III alongside science and social science. We do not describe the paper's design here, since the Directorate publishes it and can change it; check dge.tn.gov.in before a revision plan is made.
What you can judge is fit. Four things matter more than anything else:
Our Tamil Nadu Board tutor page for Madurai covers the State Board across subjects.
In the 2026-27 curriculum, CBSE spreads its 80 board marks over fourteen NCERT chapters in seven units, and the paper design is the same as last session. A tutor who teaches strictly in textbook order can leave the heaviest unit short of practice. A better order of attention, by weight:
The paper runs in five sections. Section A has twenty one-mark items, eighteen multiple-choice and two assertion–reason; Section B five two-mark questions; Section C six three-mark ones; Section D four long answers of five marks; and Section E three case studies worth four each. Calculators are not allowed, and π is taken as 22/7 unless a question says otherwise. Standard and Basic share the chapters but not the demand: about 54% of Standard marks test remembering and understanding, against about 75% in Basic. If Class 11 maths is a real possibility, Standard is the safer choice; ask the school when the choice closes.
From 2026, Class 10 students sit one compulsory main exam and may take an optional second exam to improve up to three subjects, maths included. Dates for 2027 had not been announced at the time of writing, so watch cbse.gov.in. Our Class 10 maths preparation guide works chapter by chapter, the board-year planner sets out the months, and the Class 10 maths tutor page explains how we match for that year.
In Std XI and XII the board paper and the entrance exam pull in different directions, and a home tutor's value is keeping both in sight. The CBSE Class 12 paper asks 38 compulsory questions for 80 marks, and calculus alone carries 35, so it deserves the largest share of each week from the start of the session. JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 set 75 questions for 300 marks; maths had 25 of them, twenty multiple-choice and five needing a numerical answer, with four marks for a correct response and one deducted for a wrong one. NTA publishes each year's pattern afresh on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
A State Board student in Std XI with JEE in mind should ask the tutor to set the entrance syllabus beside the state chapter list early in the year, mark any topic the textbook treats lightly, and timetable it before the board year gets crowded. If your child already attends an entrance batch, the home hour should not repeat the lecture; it should clear the problems left unsolved from the batch sheet and keep long written board answers in practice. Read the Class 12 calculus and algebra guide, the JEE maths topic-wise guide and our Class 12 maths tutor page.
Tutors for these four courses are fewer than for the State Board or CBSE, so name the course in your first message. If nobody near you is free, an online specialist can take the course-specific work.
Whatever the board, a session that works tends to follow this order:
Children who learn this rhythm in Std VI to VIII carry fewer gaps into the board year.
Most Madurai tutors travel by two-wheeler, city bus or auto, so the last few streets matter more than the main road. Compare tutors by locality on our Madurai page.
Tallakulam holds the Madurai Corporation's head office and Tamukkam Ground, which most people know. Homes sit on side streets behind roads lined with offices and shops, and the roads near Tamukkam and the river bridges fill up at office and school hours, so a slightly later evening class runs more smoothly. Sellur is an older neighbourhood with lanes where several streets carry similar numbers; give the street name with a landmark such as the 60 Feet Road or the public library.
Koodal Nagar joined the Corporation when it grew from 72 to 100 wards after 2011, and it has its own railway station where some trains stop. Some streets are hard to find, so send a map pin before the demo; a tutor from Vilangudi, Sellur or Arappalayam is usually the steadiest choice for a weekly slot.
Anna Nagar has houses and flats, so a visit is either a knock on the door or a quick word at the building entrance; many parents choose a slot just after school, before the main roads get heavy. In Melamadai, Vandiyur Lake is the landmark a new tutor finds most easily. Arappalayam, on the south bank, has the bus terminus for state transport buses and is close to Madurai Junction, which makes it easy to reach; just give the exact street, since homes sit away from the busy terminus.
The North Madurai and East Madurai zone pages add more landmarks, and our Madurai home tuition guide covers all five zones.
Ask for the chapter your child is on at school, not a prepared showpiece, and watch for these signs:
If the match is wrong, tell us and the next tutor on your shortlist takes a demo; a change of tutor later is free too. The demo class checklist for parents lists more to look for, and you can book through our demo class page. If the right specialist lives across the river, one home visit and one online session a week works well; the home tutor or online tutor article weighs it up.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee. It moves with the course and class, the tutor's experience with that course, the trip to your street at the hour you want, and how many sessions you book each week. Every fee on your shortlist is shown before the demo; the Madurai home tuition fees article and our pricing guide explain what to ask.
Five details are enough: the class; the course by its full name (State Board with medium, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE); your locality with a nearby landmark; the days and hours you can offer; and a budget. We reply with two or three matched maths tutors, each fee listed, and you choose one for a free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID, as explained on how we check tutors. If no suitable tutor can reach your part of Madurai at that hour, we suggest an online or mixed plan. NXTutors works from Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India; browse tutor profiles or see the national maths home tutor page. For the sciences, see our science and physics tutor pages for Madurai.
Maths teachers who live in Madurai and want students close to home can see open requests on the Madurai tuition jobs page.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Madurai tutor sets a personal rate, and the whole shortlist of fees is shown before the free demo.
Yes. We look for tutors who teach from the state textbook your child has been issued, in Tamil or English medium as your child writes, and who use official model or earlier papers where the Directorate of Government Examinations provides them. The Directorate can revise its scheme, so confirm current details on dge.tn.gov.in before planning revision.
We match across North Madurai, East Madurai, West Madurai, South Madurai and the Thiruparankundram side, on both banks of the Vaigai. Nearby tutors are offered first, then others in the zone and the city. When nobody suitable can reach you at your hour, we suggest online or mixed lessons instead.
Algebra, worth 20 of the 80 board marks in 2026-27. Geometry follows at 15, trigonometry at 12, statistics and probability at 11 and mensuration at 10, with real numbers and coordinate geometry on 6 each. The paper design is unchanged from last session, so recent CBSE sample papers suit timed practice.
Choose Standard if Class 11 maths is a real possibility. Both levels test the same fourteen chapters for 80 marks, but roughly three-quarters of Basic marks reward remembering and understanding, against about 54% in Standard, which asks for far more application. Schools close the choice at registration, so check the date.
Yes, when the tutor does a different job from the batch. The home hour should clear problems left unsolved from the batch sheet and keep long written board answers in practice, since CBSE Class 12 gives calculus 35 of 80 marks and every step must be shown on paper.
Send a map pin for Koodal Nagar, where some streets are hard to find, and name the street with a landmark in Sellur, where several streets share similar numbers. A tutor from Vilangudi, Sellur or Arappalayam is usually the steadiest choice for a regular weekday slot on that side.
For the 2027 and 2028 exams CISCE sets one 80-mark paper across seven units, and the old choice between Sections B and C is gone, so every student studies vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability. Calculus carries 35 marks, and two projects add 20 more to the total.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
