CBSE home tutors in Gorakhpur: NCERT read closely, case questions practised, board answers written in full

Gorakhpur children may study under CBSE, CISCE or the UP Board, in Hindi or in English. For a CBSE family the textbook is NCERT, and the papers increasingly test whether a child can use an idea in an unfamiliar situation, not just repeat it. A good CBSE tutor works on both: making each NCERT chapter properly understood, and building the reading habit that case-based and source-based questions demand. This page sets out what CBSE asks for at each stage from Class 6 to Class 12, how its papers differ from the UP Board's, what a useful session looks like, and how tutors reach families in different parts of the city.

CBSE beside the UP Board: same topics, different papers

Plenty of families come across both boards, through older children, cousins or a change of school. The topics in Class 10 science or Class 12 physics overlap a great deal, but the papers are built differently, and a tutor should teach to the right one.

If your child is on the UP Board, our UP Board tutors in Gorakhpur page covers its papers in detail.

What CBSE asks for at each stage

CBSE from Class 6 to Class 12, and what a tutor should focus on
ClassesWhat changesTutor's focus
6 to 8Maths and science become separate, reasoned subjectsReading NCERT properly, neat working, and confidence in fractions, ratio and early algebra
9A common paper in maths and science, with an optional Advanced paperClosing gaps from the middle years before the board year starts
10The board year, with two sittingsTreating the first sitting as the real exam, and written answers that earn every step mark
11A stream and a large jump in contentGetting the basics of each new subject secure in the first term
12The whole syllabus examined, practicals includedSample papers under timing, and a calendar that protects practical and project work

Classes 9 and 10 under the 2026–27 curriculum

In Class 9, everyone sits a common 80-mark paper in mathematics and another in science. A student may also take an Advanced paper of 25 marks in maths, science, both or neither. Its questions are all higher-order and use extra content, and its marks stay outside the aggregate, although a score of 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. Advanced is for a child who already enjoys the subject; it is not a cure for weak basics. The old Basic and Standard maths split is being phased out, and students in Class 10 in 2026–27 are the last to take it.

Class 10 now has two board sittings. The first is compulsory. A student who has passed can sit the second to raise marks in up to three of science, mathematics, social science and the languages. A tutor should plan for the first sitting as the one that counts and see the second only as a safety net.

How Classes 11 and 12 are marked

CBSE senior subjects and their split, 2026–27 curriculum
Subject (code)Written paperPractical or internal
Physics 042, Chemistry 043, Biology 0447030 practical
Mathematics 041 or Applied Mathematics 241 (only one)8020 internal
Accountancy 055, Business Studies 054, Economics 0308020 internal

The design of each paper is published with the sample paper every year, so ask the tutor to work from the current one. For the board year, our guides to Class 12 physics, organic and inorganic chemistry and calculus and algebra are a good place to begin. Students also preparing for entrance tests can see the JEE and NEET pages for Gorakhpur.

Case and source questions: read first, then answer

Roughly half of a CBSE secondary paper is competency-based: a short case, a source extract, a table of data or a situation from daily life, followed by questions that check whether the idea can be used. Children who know the chapter can still drop marks, because the first skill is reading. In science, give a few minutes of each session to one such passage: mark what is given, name the idea it points to, and only then write. In maths, the same habit means turning a word problem into an equation before calculating anything. NCERT exemplar problems and CBSE's own sample papers copy the style closely; ordinary worksheets usually do not.

For a child who reads more easily in Hindi, a tutor can explain in Hindi and still practise answers in English, which is how the paper will be written if the school teaches in English. Say which you need when you send a request.

Moving into CBSE from another board, or out of it

Some Gorakhpur families move between boards: from the UP Board to CBSE when changing school, from another city's CBSE school into a local one, or from CBSE to the UP Board for Class 11. CBSE, CISCE and the UP Board cover many of the same topics but in a different order, so a child who changes mid-year can miss a chapter completely. A careful tutor compares the old and new syllabus in the first week, lists the chapters that fall in the gap, and teaches those before the new school's first test. A change of medium, Hindi to English or the reverse, needs a glossary of the subject's key terms built in the same weeks.

What a useful CBSE session contains

  1. A quick look back. Two or three questions on last week's chapter, answered without the book.
  2. The new idea, from NCERT. Read together, with the tutor asking why at each step.
  3. One competency item. A case, source or data question on the same chapter.
  4. One board-style answer. Written in full, then marked the way a board examiner would.
  5. A short list for the week. Written in the notebook, so a parent can see what is expected.

How CBSE tutors reach six Gorakhpur localities

  • Basharatpur is a residential area of several colonies on the northern side. Name the colony and a shop on the main road, and tutors from the centre or the old city can reach it easily.
  • Shahpur sits on the Pipraich road side near Asuran. A home tutor for maths and an online tutor for one senior specialist subject is a common mix here.
  • Mohaddipur lies east of the centre on the main road. Choose a slot outside office hours, or a tutor living on the same side.
  • Kunraghat, further east, holds the Cantonment rail halt. If your family has moved here from another city, tell the tutor the old board, the new board and any change of medium.
  • Divya Nagar is on the eastern edge towards Khorabar. Share a map pin and plan two longer sessions a week.
  • GIDA is read by sector and sub-sector. Fewer tutors live in the township, so send the request before term begins.

The Asuran and Rapti Nagar, Taramandal and East Gorakhpur and Gorakhnath, Old City and GIDA zone pages have more detail, and every locality is on the Gorakhpur home tutors page.

Home or online for CBSE in Gorakhpur?

Home visits suit younger children, maths at every stage, and any child who drifts on a screen. Online lessons suit a senior subject such as accountancy or chemistry when the right tutor lives across the city, a short check before a school test, and evenings when winter fog or monsoon rain make travel slow. Many families use one tutor for both. See our online tutors for Gorakhpur page and the home or online tutor comparison.

Five questions for a CBSE tutor at the demo

  1. "Which CBSE classes and subjects have you taught in the last two years?"
  2. "Can you show me this year's sample paper for my child's class?"
  3. "How will you practise case and source questions each week?"
  4. "How do you mark a board-style answer, step by step?"
  5. "If my child moved from the UP Board, which chapters would you check first?"

If the fit is not right, we arrange another demo, and switching tutor later is free. The demo class checklist has more.

CBSE Home Tutor in Gorakhpur (Classes 6–12): common questions

What is the hourly fee for a CBSE home tutor in Gorakhpur?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each CBSE tutor in Gorakhpur sets their own fee, and you see it before the demo, along with what the session covers.

How do Gorakhpur parents find a CBSE tutor through NXTutors?

Gorakhpur parents find a CBSE tutor by sending the class, subjects, medium and locality with a landmark. We reply with two or three matched tutors and show each fee before you book. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free if the match does not work.

How is a CBSE Class 10 paper different from a UP Board High School paper in Gorakhpur?

A CBSE Class 10 major subject splits 80 marks in the paper and 20 internal, with about half the questions competency-focused. On the UP Board, High School science in 2026–27 is 70 written and 30 practical. Gorakhpur families should tell the tutor which paper the child sits, so practice matches it.

How many times can a Gorakhpur student sit the CBSE Class 10 board exam?

A Gorakhpur student can sit the CBSE Class 10 board exam twice under the current scheme. The first sitting is compulsory. A student who passes may take the second to improve marks in up to three of science, mathematics, social science and the languages, so plan for the first.

Should a Gorakhpur Class 9 student take the CBSE Advanced maths or science paper?

A Gorakhpur Class 9 student should take the CBSE Advanced paper only if they already enjoy the subject. It is worth 25 marks, uses higher-order questions on extra content and stays outside the aggregate, though 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. It does not fix weak basics.

How should a CBSE tutor in Gorakhpur prepare a child for case-based questions?

A CBSE tutor in Gorakhpur should practise one case, source or data question in every session. The child marks what is given, names the idea it points to, and only then writes. NCERT exemplar problems and CBSE sample papers match the style far more closely than ordinary worksheets.

What happens if a Gorakhpur child moves from the UP Board to CBSE mid-year?

If a Gorakhpur child moves from the UP Board to CBSE mid-year, a chapter can be missed because the boards order topics differently. A careful tutor compares both syllabi in the first week, lists the gap chapters and teaches them before the new school test, with a glossary if the medium changes.

How are CBSE Class 12 science subjects marked for Gorakhpur students?

CBSE Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology are marked 70 for the written paper and 30 for practical work for Gorakhpur students, under the 2026–27 curriculum. Mathematics, or Applied Mathematics instead, is 80 written and 20 internal. Ask the tutor to work from the current sample paper.

How do CBSE tutors reach Basharatpur, Kunraghat or Divya Nagar in Gorakhpur?

CBSE tutors reach Basharatpur from the centre or the old city once you name the colony and a main-road shop. Kunraghat is on the eastern side near the Cantonment halt. Divya Nagar is on the eastern edge, so share a map pin and plan two longer sessions each week.

Is online CBSE tuition a good option for Gorakhpur students?

Online CBSE tuition works well for Gorakhpur students in a senior subject whose right tutor lives across the city, or for a short check before a test. Home visits suit younger children and maths. Winter fog and monsoon evenings are another reason families keep one tutor for both formats.
