Chemistry is often the subject a Gorakhpur Class 12 student feels least sure of, even after a full week of school and coaching. The UP Board paper is short and steep, the CBSE paper fixes marks chapter by chapter, and NEET or JEE want fast, exact recall with a penalty for guessing. What slips between them is the patient part: numericals worked with units, reactions written in order, and reasons given in one clean line. A home tutor can hold that together. Tell us the board and locality, and you get two or three chemistry tutors to compare, each fee visible on the profile; the opening lesson is a free demo.
The Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, whose home page lists a regional office at Gorakhpur, describes Class 12 chemistry as one written paper of 70 marks made of just seven questions. The opening question bundles six multiple-choice items of one mark each. The questions after it are worth two, three, four and five marks, so the paper climbs from quick recall to long written answers. No less than 8 marks must come from numerical questions.
For a tutor that means three things. Numericals need weekly attention from the first month, because a fixed slice of the paper rests on them: mole calculations, solutions, electrochemistry and kinetics, with units on every line. Long answers score when they follow a set order of equation, conditions, explanation and, where it fits, a labelled structure. And a student writing in Hindi should learn the terms used in the prescribed book, with the English names alongside for entrance work. For the practical scheme and other details, use the board's own site; our UP Board tutors in Gorakhpur page covers the other subjects.
| Exam | Chemistry's share | Skill it pays for |
|---|---|---|
| UP Board Intermediate | Seven questions for 70 marks, at least 8 of them numerical | Ordered long answers and careful arithmetic |
| CBSE Class 12 (043) | Theory of 70 from 33 compulsory questions; practical of 30 | One-line reasons, balanced equations, tidy numericals |
| NEET (UG), as set in 2026 | 45 of 180 questions, so 180 of the 720 marks, answered with pen on paper | NCERT statements recalled exactly and quickly |
| JEE Main 2026, Paper 1 | 25 of the 75 questions, 20 with options and 5 needing a number | Mechanisms and multi-step physical chemistry |
Both NTA exams in 2026 added four marks for a right answer and deducted one for a wrong one; NTA publishes the pattern again each year. Useful reading: the NEET chemistry chapters that matter most, our JEE chemistry guide by branch, the NEET chemistry tutor page and the NEET home tutors in Gorakhpur page.
For 2026-27, CBSE gives each of its ten Class 12 theory chapters a fixed number of marks, and the paper follows last session's layout. Add the chapters up and organic chemistry is worth 33, physical chemistry 23 and inorganic chemistry 14. That makes the year easy to budget:
| Branch | Chapter (marks) | Practice |
|---|---|---|
| Organic | Carbonyl compounds and carboxylic acids (8), biomolecules (7), and three chapters of 6 each: halogen derivatives, alcohols with phenols and ethers, and amines | Conversion chains written from memory; named reactions; tests that separate one compound from another |
| Physical | Electrochemistry (9), solutions (7), kinetics (7) | Problems with units carried through; order, rate law and half-life |
| Inorganic | Transition and inner-transition elements (7), coordination compounds (7) | A trend plus its reason; naming complexes and spotting isomers |
Five sections make up the paper, a few questions offer an internal choice, and the hall allows no calculator and no log table. Recall and understanding account for roughly 40% of the marks; applying, analysing and evaluating take the remainder. For chapter detail, read our Class 12 organic and inorganic guide; our Class 12 chemistry tutor page shows a board-year plan.
Gone from the 2026-27 Class 12 course: the solid state, and the p-block chapter covering Groups 15 to 18. Still in the syllabus, but tested only inside school: polymers, surface chemistry, chemistry in everyday life, and how elements are isolated. Families of entrance aspirants should not treat either list as permission to skip. NTA issues the NEET and JEE syllabi separately from CBSE, and a chapter the board has let go can still be examined there. Read the official entrance syllabus first.
A home lesson that follows a step behind the coaching chapter, rather than racing ahead, tends to stick. One workable shape for each visit:
For inorganic chapters, rapid oral questions from the NCERT pages work well, with a "why?" after every trend; NEET especially rewards the textbook's own wording.
More than families expect. In CBSE, volumetric analysis and salt analysis carry 8 marks apiece, a content-based experiment 6, the project 4, and the record with the viva a combined 4. The titration this session pairs potassium permanganate with oxalic acid or Mohr's salt, and every candidate prepares the standard solution by weighing it personally. A kitchen table has no burette, but it can host the molarity sum for that weighed mass, a neatly ruled table of readings, a run-through of salt analysis from the dry tests to the confirmatory ones, a project small enough to finish, and the classic viva question of why permanganate serves as its own indicator. A UP Board student should take the practical scheme from the board's site and keep the record to the same standard.
These localities sit in the central belt and on the older western side. Every locality has its page on our Gorakhpur page.
If a route becomes unreliable near the pre-boards, move one weekly visit online to protect the revision plan. The Golghar and Civil Lines zone page has more local tips.
Gorakhpur has fewer chemistry teachers for these courses than for the UP Board or CBSE. Say which course in your first message; pairing an online specialist with a local tutor who marks written work often solves it.
Almost every Class 12 chapter borrows from Class 11. The mole, equilibrium and early organic reactions reappear in solutions, in cells and in every conversion question, and a weak start there shows up a year later in the board result and the entrance score alike. Repairing those foundations in Class 11 costs a term; repairing them in Class 12 costs the board year. Our Class 11 chemistry tutor page and the national chemistry home tutor page say more.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates are set by each tutor. Three questions help you compare: which of the four exams above have they prepared students for recently, how would they share a week between the board paper and entrance practice, and can a lesson go online during school exams? You see each fee before the demo; the Gorakhpur home tuition fees guide adds more.
A good request covers the class, board and medium; the target exam; the branch (organic, physical or inorganic) where marks slip; coaching days, if any; your locality and a landmark; and your open evenings. Back comes a shortlist of two or three chemistry tutors with fees, and you decide who gives the free demo. A mismatch just means a demo with the next tutor, and a change later in the year costs nothing. If nobody suitable can come to you, we propose online lessons or a blend. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Neighbouring subjects are on our Gorakhpur physics and biology pages; within the state, see chemistry tutors in Lucknow and Varanasi.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Gorakhpur chemistry tutors set their own rates. Ask which exams they have prepared students for recently and how they would split a week between board and entrance work.
A Gorakhpur chemistry request should include the class, board and medium, the target exam, the branch where marks slip, coaching days, your locality with a landmark, and free evenings. NXTutors sends two or three matched tutors with fees shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Weekly numericals matter because at least 8 of the 70 marks in the seven-question UP Board Class 12 chemistry paper must come from numerical questions. The first question bundles six one-mark multiple-choice items, and the rest are worth two, three, four and five marks. Gorakhpur students should work mole, solution and kinetics problems from the start of the year.
Organic chemistry carries the most CBSE Class 12 marks in 2026-27, with 33 of the 70 theory marks. Physical chemistry brings 23 and inorganic 14. Electrochemistry is the largest single physical chapter at 9, and aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids the largest organic one at 8, so a Gorakhpur tutor can budget the year by marks.
CBSE has removed the solid state and the p-block elements of Groups 15 to 18 from Class 12 chemistry for 2026-27. Polymers, surface chemistry, chemistry in everyday life and the isolation of elements stay but are marked only in school. Gorakhpur NEET or JEE students should check the NTA syllabus before skipping any of them.
A Gorakhpur student can prepare much of the chemistry practical at home with a tutor. On CBSE, volumetric and salt analysis carry 8 marks each, a content experiment 6, the project 4, and the record with viva 4. A tutor can rehearse molarity sums, burette tables, the salt analysis sequence and likely viva questions.
A Hindi-medium UP Board student in Gorakhpur should learn the Hindi terms of the prescribed book first and add the English names alongside. Board answers should use the book's wording, while NEET and JEE material is widely used in English. A tutor who teaches both together saves relearning later, without slowing the board syllabus.
Class 11 is the right time to strengthen chemistry because the mole concept, equilibrium and early organic reactions return throughout Class 12. Gaps there cost marks a year later in the board paper and in NEET or JEE. A term spent on foundations in Class 11 is far lighter work than repairs during the board year.
Yes, a Gorakhpur student can combine an online chemistry specialist with a home tutor, and many families do. In Civil Lines and elsewhere, a specialist for Class 12 chemistry, ISC or IB can teach online while a nearby tutor covers other subjects or marks written practice. This helps when local teachers for a course are few.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
