Gorakhpur Home Tuition Guide: Golghar, Civil Lines, Gorakhnath, GIDA, Asuran, Rapti Nagar and Taramandal
Gorakhpur lies on the Rapti in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and for home tuition its homes fall into four broad groups. The centre runs through Golghar and Civil Lines; the older north-western and western side takes in Gorakhnath and the old city, with the GIDA township and Sahjanwa further west; the north spreads out from Asuran Chowk to Rapti Nagar; and the south-east and east run from Taramandal, near Ramgarh Tal, out to Kunraghat and Divya Nagar. This guide goes through all twenty localities, zone by zone, with the address details and timing that tend to work in each.
Reference points a Gorakhpur tutor will recognise
Most tutors here come by two-wheeler, auto or rickshaw, so a well-known reference point helps more than a long address. Gorakhpur Junction, on Station Road near Dharamshala, is the headquarters of the North Eastern Railway, and the main bus stand is close to it. Gorakhnath on Nepal Road is a landmark everyone on the north-western side knows. In the east, Gorakhpur Cantonment station is in Kunraghat, the city planetarium near the GDA office gives Taramandal its name, and the airport runs from the Air Force Station on the eastern edge.
| Zone | Reference point to mention | Address detail that matters most | Watch on the first visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golghar and Civil Lines | Golghar, the Junction approach, the Regional Stadium in Civil Lines | Building, floor and which entrance to use | Shopfront doors that do not lead upstairs |
| Gorakhnath, Old City and GIDA | Gorakhnath on Nepal Road; the GIDA sectors; Sahjanwa station | Part name, mohalla and lane; sector and sub-sector in GIDA | Lanes that look alike; long rides out to GIDA |
| Asuran and Rapti Nagar | Asuran Chowk; Pipraich Road | Colony name; phase, sector and house number in Rapti Nagar | New lanes in the growing phases |
| Taramandal and East Gorakhpur | The city planetarium, Ramgarh Tal, Cantonment station | Colony and house number, with a map pin further out | Wider distances between colonies |
Golghar and Civil Lines
The central belt is the easiest part of Gorakhpur to reach from any direction, so families here usually have the widest choice of tutors. Homes range from houses on inner lanes to flats above shops on the main roads, which means two neighbours may need to describe their address in quite different ways.
Golghar: the commercial centre of the city, with homes behind and above busy shopfronts. Give the lane or building, the floor and a shop everyone knows. Late afternoon or a weekend morning is calmer than early evening.
Civil Lines: a settled central area beside Golghar, home to the Regional Stadium. Children here study under all the main boards, so lead the request with the board and class, then the textbook titles.
Bank Road: a busy central address with houses and flats. If you live above or behind a shop, say which entrance to use, because the door on the road is not always the way up.
Betiahata: just south of Golghar, with Daudpur and Rustampur nearby. The inner lanes look alike on a first visit, so name the lane and a nearby crossing or shop.
Daudpur: a residential part of central Gorakhpur near Betiahata and Civil Lines. Tutors from the centre and the north reach it easily, which helps when a Class 11 student needs a separate tutor for each science subject.
Gorakhnath, Old City and GIDA
This zone covers the older north-western and western side of the city, where the area once called Purana Gorakhpur lies, and then reaches out west to the GIDA township and Sahjanwa. In the old city, homes and small businesses share dense lanes and many areas carry part names. Out in GIDA and Sahjanwa, fewer tutors live nearby, so the weekly pattern changes.
Gorakhnath: along Nepal Road on the north-western side. The road is long, so give the colony or mohalla name and a nearby shop as well.
Humayunpur: an old residential area north of the centre, with Humayunpur North among its parts. Say which part you live in.
Jatepur: split into Jatepur North and Jatepur South, just north of central Gorakhpur. Name the part and the lane. For Classes 6 to 8, ask the tutor to spend the first weeks finding old gaps before moving ahead.
Alinagar: one of the older central parts, often written together with Aryanagar, where homes and small businesses share the same lanes. A shop or crossing on your lane is the clearest guide for a first visit.
Turkmanpur: a residential part of the old city, west of the centre. For Classes 9 to 12, book help well before the term exams and board papers.
GIDA: the township of the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority, formed in 1989, west of the city with industrial units and residential sectors. Put the sector and sub-sector first, start early in the term, and expect a travelling tutor to prefer weekend sessions or two longer weekday visits.
Sahjanwa: a town west of the city beside GIDA, with a passenger station and buses to Gorakhpur. A tutor who lives in Sahjanwa or GIDA can visit more often than one coming from the city, and an online tutor can cover a specialist senior subject.
Asuran and Rapti Nagar
The northern side spreads out from Asuran Chowk, where two main roads meet, towards Pipraich Road and the newer planned colonies. Most addresses here are read by colony, phase or sector, and new homes are still being added: the Gorakhpur Development Authority's Raptinagar Vistar extension was approved on UP RERA in August 2024.
Asuran: centred on Asuran Chowk, the reference point most tutors will know. Students here who attend coaching often keep the home tutor for school subjects such as English, Hindi or social science, so share the full week in the request.
Basharatpur: a residential area of several colonies in north Gorakhpur, also spelt Bashratpur. Name the colony and use Asuran Chowk or a shop on the main road as the reference. ICSE and ISC families here should ask how the tutor builds long written answers.
Shahpur: a residential part of the north near Asuran, with its own colonies and lanes. Many families here mix a home tutor for one subject with an online tutor for another, so set up a quiet desk and a steady connection early.
Rapti Nagar: a planned area laid out in numbered phases, also written Raptinagar. Lead with the phase, sector or block and house number, and say if the home is in Raptinagar Vistar. Families who moved here recently should tell the tutor what the old school had already taught.
Taramandal and East Gorakhpur
The south-east and east are more spread out than the old city. Colonies sit further apart, so tutors often prefer fewer, longer visits, and families on the outer edge commonly mix home and online classes.
Taramandal: a residential area on the Ramgarh Tal side, sharing its name with the city planetarium, with colonies such as Azad Nagar, Indira Nagar and Rail Vihar close by. Give the colony and house number.
Mohaddipur: on the main road east of the centre, next to Bichhia. Office hours fill this road, so choose a slot outside them or a tutor who lives on the same side.
Kunraghat: further east, home to Gorakhpur Cantonment station, which is the easiest reference to give. Families who have moved in from another city should list the old board, the new board and the class, so the tutor can find missed chapters.
Divya Nagar: on the eastern edge towards Khorabar and the Air Force Station. Fewer tutors live right next door, so share a map pin and agree two longer sessions a week. If no home tutor fits the subject, NXTutors widens the search to online tutors.
One message with the whole address
Send the tutor a single message that a stranger could follow:
- Locality and part: for example Jatepur South, Rapti Nagar Phase 4 or a GIDA sector and sub-sector.
- Colony, mohalla or lane: the name your neighbours use, with any other common spelling.
- Reference point: Asuran Chowk, the Cantonment station, a shop or a crossing.
- The door itself: house number, or building, floor and which entrance.
- A map pin: most useful in the newer phases and the outer eastern colonies.
- Who will be home: a name and number for the adult who opens the door.
Timing by class stage
The right slot depends as much on the child's age as on the zone. A rough guide for Gorakhpur families:
- Classes 1 to 5: short classes on three or so afternoons, after the child has eaten and rested. A tutor from the same colony keeps this easy.
- Classes 6 to 8: two or three classes a week, with one before each school test week for revision.
- Classes 9 and 10: a fixed weekly pattern from the start of the session, with more time added before term exams and the High School or Class 10 board papers.
- Classes 11 and 12: one tutor per hard subject where possible, fitted around school, practicals and any coaching.

Home, online or both
A tutor at the table suits younger children and anyone who works better with someone beside them. An online class suits a specialist who lives across the city or in another state, a late slot, or a home in GIDA, Sahjanwa or Divya Nagar where few tutors live close by. An online tutor for Gorakhpur students can join a home plan at any point. For what a quote should cover, read home tuition fees in Gorakhpur, and for the wider trade-offs, home tutor or online tutor.

Frequently asked questions
Which parts of Gorakhpur does this tuition guide cover?
This guide covers twenty Gorakhpur localities in four zones: Golghar and Civil Lines; Gorakhnath, Old City and GIDA; Asuran and Rapti Nagar; and Taramandal and East Gorakhpur. Each locality links to its own page, with notes on address details, reference points and timing, and the tutors NXTutors can suggest for that part of the city.
What reference point should we give a home tutor in Gorakhpur?
Give a Gorakhpur tutor the nearest reference point most people know, such as Gorakhpur Junction, Asuran Chowk, Gorakhnath on Nepal Road or the Cantonment station. Add the colony or mohalla, the part name where there is one, and the house or flat number. In Rapti Nagar's newer phases and the outer eastern colonies, a map pin saves time.
Can we find a home tutor in GIDA or Sahjanwa?
Yes, NXTutors looks for home tutors in GIDA and Sahjanwa, starting with any who live in the township or the town. Fewer tutors live there than in the city, so start before the term begins and give the sector and sub-sector. Travelling tutors often prefer weekend or longer weekday sessions, and online tutors can cover specialist subjects.
Can NXTutors find a UP Board tutor who teaches in Hindi medium?
NXTutors can find a UP Board tutor who teaches in Hindi medium when you mention the board, the class and the medium in your request. We shortlist tutors who teach that combination, nearest first. If no suitable home tutor lives close by, we suggest online tutors who know the UP Board, so lessons still follow your child's textbooks.
What if no home tutor lives near our colony in Gorakhpur?
If no home tutor lives near your colony in Gorakhpur, NXTutors widens the search step by step until it finds a fit. It looks at tutors who already travel there, then your zone, then the rest of the city, then online tutors from across India. Many families keep a nearby home tutor for one subject and add an online tutor for another. The first class with each tutor is a free demo.
How does NXTutors check the tutors it suggests in Gorakhpur?
Tutors in Gorakhpur who join NXTutors go through an ID check, and the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete. It is not a police or background check. For each request you get two or three matched tutors and see each fee before the demo, and switching tutor later is free.
