Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In many Gorakhpur homes, maths homework is done in the hour after school, often in Hindi, sometimes in English, and nearly always with a parent asking whether the answer at the back of the book matches. A home tutor's real job is the step before that answer: reading the rough work, spotting the line where the method went astray, and making sure it does not go astray the same way next week. Tell NXTutors the class, the board that sets your child's paper (the UP Board, CBSE, CISCE or an international course), the medium and your mohalla or colony. We suggest two or three maths tutors who match, with each fee visible on the shortlist, and the first class is a free demo.
Ajay Vatsyayan is responsible for the IB, IGCSE and ISC parts of this page, and Abhinandan Tiwary for the CBSE and ICSE Class 10 parts. UP Board numbers come from the board's own files on upmsp.edu.in. The right-hand column gives you something concrete to ask on the first call.
| Course | Examining body | Marks | Ask the tutor |
|---|---|---|---|
| High School (Class 10) | UP Board (UPMSP) | Written paper of 70, internal 30 with a project; pass needs 23 and 10 | Have you prepared students for the OMR part of the paper? |
| Intermediate (Classes 11 and 12) | UP Board (UPMSP) | One 100-mark paper in each year | How will you divide the year between calculus and the rest? |
| Class 10, Standard or Basic | CBSE | 80 on the board paper; the school adds 20 | Standard or Basic: which fits my child, going by what? |
| Class 12 | CBSE | An 80-mark paper of 38 questions, none optional; 20 internal | In which month does calculus begin? |
| ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | CISCE | Paper of 80; 20 from internal or project work | Is your syllabus copy for my child's exam year? |
| IB Diploma, Cambridge IGCSE | IB, Cambridge | Timed papers plus an exploration (IB); Core or Extended tier (IGCSE) | Have you taught this exact course or tier in the last two years? |
The Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, founded at Prayagraj in 1921, runs two public exams: High School after Class 10 and Intermediate after Class 12. Its home page lists Gorakhpur among its five regional offices, with Meerut, Bareilly, Prayagraj and Varanasi. Class 10 maths has a 70-mark written paper and 30 internal marks, project included; a pass needs 23 and 10. Each strand has a fixed share of the 70:
| Strand | Marks of 70 | Use in the weekly plan |
|---|---|---|
| Algebra | 18 | The anchor of every week: polynomials, linear pairs, quadratics and progressions, each with word problems |
| Trigonometry | 12 | Ratios and identities first, then heights and distances drawn as a figure before any working |
| Geometry | 10 | Theorem statements learned in the textbook's own words, then short proofs written out |
| Mensuration | 10 | A formula card the student makes and is tested on every fortnight |
| Statistics and probability | 10 | Grouped tables checked column by column, since one slip carries through |
| Number systems; coordinate geometry | 5 each | Short, regular practice so these never turn into lost marks |
One syllabus line limits a feared chapter: heights and distances questions use angles of 30, 45 and 60 degrees and no more than two right triangles. For the board's other subjects, see our UP Board tutors in Gorakhpur page.
The board's Class 10 maths model paper begins with a reading period. Section A then sets 20 multiple-choice questions of one mark each, answered on an OMR sheet, and the instructions do not allow cutting, an eraser or whitener on that sheet. Section B carries the other 50 marks in five questions, and each question states how many of its parts the student must attempt. The model paper is set in Hindi.
Three habits follow, and Class 9 is a good time to start them:
A Hindi-medium student should practise from that Hindi model paper and write with the textbook's Hindi terms.
Intermediate maths is one 100-mark paper in Class 11 and another in Class 12, with very different weights:
Treat the 10 calculus marks of Class 11 as a warning: limits and derivatives learned loosely there become the 44-mark block of Class 12.
CBSE's 2026-27 Class 10 paper is worth 80 and draws on 14 NCERT chapters grouped into seven units, in the same design as last session. Algebra is the largest unit at 20. Geometry follows with 15, trigonometry (heights and distances included) with 12, and statistics with probability at 11. Mensuration is worth 10, while real numbers and coordinate geometry bring 6 each.
Section A opens with twenty single-mark items, 18 of them multiple-choice and 2 of the assertion–reason kind. After it come five two-mark questions (B), six worth three (C), four worth five (D) and, last, three case-study questions of four marks each (E). Calculators stay out of the hall, and π is taken as 22/7 unless a question gives another value. Standard and Basic cover one set of chapters at two depths. Roughly 54% of the Standard paper rewards recall and understanding; in Basic that share is near 75%. Any child who might choose maths after Class 10 is safer on Standard. A second, optional Class 10 sitting now lets students try to raise their marks in as many as three subjects, maths among them; rely on cbse.gov.in alone for when it runs. For chapter help, the Class 10 maths preparation guide and the board-year planner are a good start, and the Class 10 maths tutor page explains how we match.
A Gorakhpur student with engineering in mind may already have school, an entrance batch and weekend tests. A home tutor who repeats the batch lecture adds nothing. The hour is better spent on three narrower jobs:
JEE Main Paper 1 in 2026 carried 25 maths questions: 20 with options and 5 asking for a number. A correct answer earned four marks and a wrong one lost a mark. NTA republishes the pattern each year, so read the current bulletin on its site before planning. Our JEE maths topic-wise guide and the Class 12 calculus and algebra guide help with priorities; see also the JEE home tutors in Gorakhpur page and the Class 12 maths tutor page.
Fewer local teachers handle these courses than the UP Board or CBSE, so mention the course by name when you first write to us. One workable split is an online specialist for the teaching and a tutor close by for marking practice.
For 2026-27 the UP Board has notified that only board-authorised textbooks are to be used, so chapters, terms and methods should come from the prescribed book, with guidebooks only for extra practice. A separate cyber-fraud notice says the board never contacts candidates individually; treat any such call or message with suspicion, and note the 1930 cyber helpline it gives. Download model papers from upmsp.edu.in itself, not from a forwarded copy.
The central belt and the older western side sit close together, and in the old city tutors usually come by two-wheeler or rickshaw. Compare tutors by locality on our Gorakhpur page.
| Locality | Setting | Settle in advance |
|---|---|---|
| Golghar | The centre of the city, where lanes mix homes with shopfronts and offices; many tutors can reach it | Lane or building name, floor, and a shop or crossing everyone knows; a slot before the evening rush |
| Civil Lines | A settled central area near Golghar, where children study under all the main boards | The board, textbook titles and chapters already done at school |
| Betiahata | Just south of Golghar, beside Daudpur and Rustampur, with Hindi-medium and English-medium learners | The medium your child writes the paper in, plus the lane and a nearby shop |
| Gorakhnath | The north-western side along Nepal Road | The mohalla or colony name with the lane, since the road alone is too long to guide anyone |
| Humayunpur | An old residential area north of the centre, with Humayunpur North among its parts | Which part you live in, and the lane |
| Turkmanpur | A residential part of the old city, west of the centre | A well-known shop or crossing, as old-city lanes can confuse a first visit |
The zone pages for Golghar and Civil Lines and Gorakhnath, Old City and GIDA add local tips, and the Gorakhpur home tuition guide covers the whole city.
Ask the tutor to work on the chapter the school is teaching this week, not a topic of their choosing, and have the latest class test and a page of homework ready. Four things are worth watching:
Not the right fit? Say so, and another tutor from your shortlist gives the next demo; moving to a different tutor later costs nothing either. Our demo class checklist for parents has more ideas.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor decides their own rate. Useful comparisons: the boards and classes a tutor has handled in the past year, the number of visits a week they think your child needs, and whether a session can move online when school exams are on. Fees are on the shortlist before any demo, and the Gorakhpur home tuition fees guide goes further. If you are deciding between home and online, read home tutor or online tutor and see our online tutors for Gorakhpur page.
We need only a handful of things from you: the class, the full name of the course (for example UP Board High School, CBSE Standard, ISC or IB), the medium, your locality with a landmark, and the slots you can give around school or coaching. A shortlist of two or three maths tutors comes back with fees, and you invite one for the free demo. Where nobody suitable can come at your hour, we will propose online classes or a mix of the two. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Our office is in Sector 66, Gurugram, and online lessons reach every part of India. The national maths home tutor page explains matching in general; within the state, compare maths tutors in Lucknow and Varanasi. For Gorakhpur science, try physics or science.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Gorakhpur maths tutors set their own rates, so compare the boards each has taught lately, the visits a week they suggest, and whether a session can go online in exam weeks.
NXTutors needs five details to suggest maths tutors in Gorakhpur: the class, the full course name, the medium, your locality with a landmark, and the times you can offer. We then send two or three matched tutors with fees shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
A Gorakhpur student on the UP Board writes a 70-mark High School maths paper and earns 30 internal marks, project included, needing 23 and 10 to pass. Algebra carries 18 of the 70 and trigonometry 12. Geometry, mensuration, and statistics with probability carry 10 each, and number systems and coordinate geometry 5 each.
A Gorakhpur Class 10 student should practise OMR answering because Section A of the UP Board maths model paper has 20 one-mark multiple-choice questions on an OMR sheet. Cutting, erasers and whitener are not allowed there, so each answer should be settled in rough before shading. Section B then carries 50 marks in five questions.
Calculus deserves the most time for a Gorakhpur student in UP Board Class 12 maths, since it carries 44 of the 100 marks. Vectors with 3D geometry follow at 18 and algebra at 15. The model paper sets nine questions, all compulsory, so no chapter can safely be skipped, and Class 11 calculus should be learned well.
A Gorakhpur tutor should take UP Board model papers and syllabus files only from upmsp.edu.in. For 2026-27 the board has notified that only board-authorised textbooks are to be used, so lessons should follow the prescribed book. The board also says it never contacts candidates individually, so treat such calls with suspicion.
A Gorakhpur CBSE student who may take maths after Class 10 should usually choose Standard. Both levels cover the same 14 chapters for 80 board marks, but about 54% of Standard marks test remembering and understanding, against about 75% in Basic. The optional second exam can improve up to three subjects, maths included.
A Gorakhpur family should give the mohalla or colony, the lane and a shop or crossing nearby for a tutor's first visit. In Golghar, add the building name and floor; near Gorakhnath, Nepal Road alone is too long to help; in Humayunpur, say which part you live in. Clear directions mean the lesson starts calmly.
A Gorakhpur student can take ISC, IB or IGCSE maths with a home tutor, though fewer local teachers handle these courses. Name the course in your first message. A common plan pairs an online specialist for the teaching with a nearby tutor who checks practice, and ISC calculus alone is worth 35 marks.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
