Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CISCE's ICSE and ISC have a strong, long-standing presence in Lucknow, and that matters for English tuition. An ICSE or ISC student writes English as two subjects, language and literature, each with its own paper, and that is a heavier load than a single board paper. CBSE, UP Board and a smaller group of IB and Cambridge IGCSE students complete the picture. NXTutors matches the board, class and medium first, then your khand, sector or block, and suggests two or three English tutors with their fees on screen. The first lesson with your chosen tutor is a free demo. This page is by the NXTutors Academic Team; our national English home tutor guide covers every stage from early reading.
Under CISCE's current ICSE syllabus, English Language (Paper 1) and Literature in English (Paper 2) are each a two-hour paper of 80 marks, and each also carries 20 marks of internal assessment. Paper 1 asks for a composition of roughly 300 to 350 words, a letter, a notice with a matching e-mail, an unseen passage of about 500 words with a summary, and a grammar question. Its internal assessment is split evenly between listening and speaking. At ISC, both papers become three hours long, the composition grows to 400 to 450 words chosen from six types, and the language paper adds directed writing and a proposal in CISCE's format; each paper carries 20 marks of project work.
What this means in practice: the ICSE or ISC student has to write fluently, at length and against the clock, and the right tutor for them is one who sets timed writing every week and marks it closely. A tutor who mainly explains chapters will not move these marks. Our notes on ICSE Class 10 English papers and ISC Class 12 English go question by question.
| Board | Structure | Lead skill for the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| ICSE, Class 10 | Language and literature papers, 80 each, plus 20 internal each | Composition and summary under time |
| ISC, Class 12 | Two three-hour papers, 80 each, plus 20 project marks each | Planning long compositions; poetry style, not only content |
| CBSE, Class 10 | A single paper of 80: reading 20, writing and grammar 20, literature 40; 20 internal | Literature answers of the right length |
| CBSE, Class 12 English Core | Reading 22, creative writing 18, literature 40; 20 internal including a project | Writing formats marked on content and accuracy |
| UP Board | High School and Intermediate English, on the board's own question paper | Full written answers from the prescribed books |
| Cambridge IGCSE | First Language 0500 or Second Language 0510, which are assessed differently | Whichever of analysis or accurate communication the entry rewards |
For IB students, Language A: language and literature combines unseen-text analysis, a comparative essay and an individual oral, with an extra essay at HL. A tutor may coach analysis and comment on plans, but coursework stays the student's own.
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad conducts the High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) examinations. We keep our description of its English course general. Much of the board's syllabus follows NCERT, but the question paper is the board's own, and schools may teach in Hindi or English. A tutor should therefore work from the books your child's school prescribes and the board's recent papers, and confirm the current pattern on the board's official website rather than from a guidebook. Tell us the medium as well as the board, so we can find someone who can explain grammar in Hindi where that helps, and then move the student steadily towards thinking and writing in English.
Across ICSE, ISC and CBSE, literature carries a large share of the marks, and the gap between a good and an average answer is usually structure, not knowledge. A tutor worth keeping teaches a simple routine: answer the question in the first sentence, support it with a reference to the text, explain what that reference shows, and stop at the word limit. For poetry, the student should say how the poet creates an effect, through imagery, sound or form, not only what the poem is about, which matters especially at ISC. One answer written, marked and rewritten each week does more than three answers read aloud.
Before any board paper comes into view, some children in Classes 1 to 3 still guess at words instead of reading them. That needs a different tutor from the one who marks ISC compositions: someone who works on letter sounds and blending, listens to the child read aloud every lesson and corrects gently. Short, frequent sessions of twenty to thirty minutes help more than a long weekly hour, and a tutor at home can follow the child's finger along the line in a way a screen cannot. Mention the child's age and what you have noticed when you ask, and we will look for a tutor who teaches early reading rather than older classes.
The Red Line runs north–south from the airport through Charbagh and Hazratganj to Munshi Pulia, which decides a lot about who can reach you without a car.
| Zone | How tutors travel | What to arrange |
|---|---|---|
| Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar & Chinhat | Red Line to Munshi Pulia, Indira Nagar, Bhootnath or Lekhraj Market; by road for the Extension and Chinhat | A standing entry pass at township gates |
| Mahanagar, Aliganj & Jankipuram | Badshahnagar, IT College or Vishwavidyalaya stations for the south of the zone; road further north | Sector letter for Aliganj; a map pin for Jankipuram Extension |
| Hazratganj, Lalbagh & Aminabad | Underground Red Line stations and a walk; parking is scarce | Floor number and a landmark at the entrance |
| Alambagh, Ashiyana & Rajajipuram | The first Red Line section: Alambagh, Singar Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Transport Nagar | A class time that avoids the Kanpur Road peak |
| Sushant Golf City, Vrindavan Yojana & Telibagh | No station; car, two-wheeler or cab along Shaheed Path or Raebareli Road | An approved entry pass for a regular tutor |
Indira Nagar is a large planned colony of houses and builder floors, and its four Red Line stations make it one of the easiest places for a tutor without a car. Aliganj runs in lettered sectors of mostly independent houses; give the sector letter and house number, and a tutor living in Aliganj or Kapoorthala is easiest to keep.
Rajendra Nagar is largely mid-rise flats close to Charbagh, so a tutor can ride the Red Line and walk. Rajajipuram is laid out in blocks A to F with wide roads; Alambagh station is the nearest stop, and the tutor usually parks at the door.
In Gomti Nagar Extension, authority plots and flats sit beside private towers along Shaheed Path; ask the gate for a standing pass in the first week. Telibagh, on Raebareli Road, is mainly independent houses; start the lesson a little after the school traffic clears.

For timed CISCE writing, a tutor at the table sees how the student plans, where they stall and how quickly they write, which is hard to judge on a video call. For marking, literature discussion and IGCSE or IB analysis, online works well, and it brings in specialists who live across the river. For a young child learning to read, a home tutor is almost always the better choice. Families in the old-city lanes or the Shaheed Path townships often combine a weekly home lesson with an online one; our home or online tutor article sets out the trade-offs.
If the fit is not right, tell us and we arrange a demo with the next tutor on the shortlist; switching later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified.

ICSE English Language asks Lucknow Class 10 students for a two-hour, 80-mark paper with a 300 to 350 word composition, a letter, and a notice with matching e-mail. It also sets an unseen 500-word passage with a summary, and grammar. Its 20 internal marks are split between listening and speaking.
For Lucknow students, ISC English papers grow to three hours, each with 20 marks of project work instead of ICSE's internal marks. The composition grows to 400 to 450 words chosen from six types, and the language paper adds directed writing and a proposal in CISCE's format. Literature expects comment on a poem's style, not only meaning.
Lucknow CBSE Class 10 students sit one 80-mark English paper: reading 20, writing and grammar 20, literature 40, plus 20 internal. Class 12 English Core gives reading 22, creative writing 18 and literature 40, with 20 internal marks including a project. Writing formats are marked on content and accuracy.
Yes, UP Board students in Lucknow can get an English tutor; give the class, board and school medium. The board sets its own paper on a largely NCERT-based syllabus, so the tutor plans from your child's prescribed books and recent board papers. They can explain grammar in Hindi at first, then move the student towards writing in English.
A Lucknow English tutor should teach literature answers as a routine of four steps. Answer the question in the first sentence, support it with a reference, explain what it shows, and stop at the word limit. For poetry, especially at ISC, say how the poet creates an effect through imagery, sound or form. One answer written, marked and rewritten weekly helps most.
Yes, a Lucknow tutor who teaches early reading can help a Class 2 child who struggles to read; mention the child's age and what you have noticed. Expect work on letter sounds and blending, reading aloud every lesson and gentle correction. Short sessions of twenty to thirty minutes, ideally at home, help more than one long weekly hour.
English tutors travelling by metro reach Lucknow neighbourhoods near the Red Line most easily. Indira Nagar has four stations, the old centre has Hazratganj, Sachivalaya and Hussainganj, and the Kanpur Road side has Alambagh, Singar Nagar and Krishna Nagar. Gomti Nagar Extension, Jankipuram Extension and the Shaheed Path townships have no station, so tutors usually drive.
For timed ICSE or ISC writing in Lucknow, a home tutor often works better, because they see how the student plans and where they stall. Marking, literature discussion and IGCSE or IB analysis work well online, bringing in specialists from across the river. Many families pair one home lesson for timed writing with one online lesson for feedback.
