Tutoring in Lucknow: what to know
Lucknow has five zones on NXTutors, on both sides of the Gomti. To the east, Gomti Nagar's khands, all beginning with V, mix plotted houses with apartment blocks, while Gomti Nagar Extension and the Faizabad Road townships add private towers with gate passes. North of the river, Mahanagar, Aliganj, Vikas Nagar and Jankipuram are mostly independent houses on plotted lanes in lettered or numbered sectors. The old centre around Hazratganj, Aminabad and Chowk is flats above or behind shops in older buildings, the Kanpur Road side is plotted sectors and some gated complexes, and the south-east along Shaheed Path is townships of gated towers beside plotted lanes.
The Red Line is the city's metro spine, running from the airport through Alambagh and Charbagh, under Hazratganj, then north across the river to Badshahnagar, Munshi Pulia and the Indira Nagar stations. A tutor on it can reach four of the five zones, then finish by auto or on foot. Sushant Golf City, Vrindavan Yojana and Telibagh have no station, so every home visit there is by car, two-wheeler or cab. Office traffic on Shaheed Path, Kanpur Road and Raebareli Road, market crowds in Aminabad and Chowk, and the Ring Road near Tedhi Pulia set the hours that work.
A UP Board student taught in Hindi, an ISC student and an IGCSE student need different tutors even in the same subject, so board, class and medium are matched together. CBSE is widely followed, CISCE's ICSE and ISC have a strong, long-standing presence, a smaller number take the IB or Cambridge IGCSE, and many families are in UP Board schools. Home tuition is easiest where you live in the same khands or sectors as the family. For senior specialist subjects such as ISC Physics, IB Maths or JEE work, an online class lets a tutor across the city teach a student in the outer townships.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
1
Sign up with a one-time code
Your account starts with a one-time code on phone or email. Add what you teach, UP Board in Hindi or English, ISC, ICSE or CBSE, and the Lucknow khands and sectors you can reach.
-
2
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Then a government photo ID goes to our team, who review it before your profile is marked Verified. One ID number belongs to one tutor; this establishes identity, not a police record.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
Once cleared, the profile carries the Verified badge, naming your boards, your zones between Aliganj and Alambagh, the hours you have free and your own fee.
-
4
A family nearby sends a request
Picture a parent in Gomti Nagar asking for help. They receive two or three names: tutors from their khand, tutors willing to come in, then the zone, all of Lucknow, then online.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
They can read your fee before choosing a slot. Lesson one is a free demo in their home, with a parent around, so both of you can judge the fit.
-
6
Teach at home, online or both
Afterwards, teach in homes across your zones, online for students across Uttar Pradesh and further, or both, say a Saturday township visit plus two online evenings.
Boards you can teach in Lucknow
Lucknow tutors teach CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, which have a long-standing presence here, the UP Board, and for a smaller group the IB or Cambridge IGCSE. The UP Board, formally UPMSP, was set up in 1921 at Prayagraj, where its head office remains, and holds the High School exam in Class 10 and the Intermediate in Class 12. Read syllabuses, model papers and registration notices on upmsp.edu.in, CISCE regulations and specimen papers on cisce.org and CBSE material on cbseacademic.nic.in, and check IB and Cambridge course guides on their own sites.
UPMSP
High School (Class 10); Intermediate (Class 12)
The UP Board fixes paperwork early: Class 9 and Class 11 students must be registered in advance through their school, and the rules on who may sit High School and Intermediate are set out each year. The 2026-27 Intermediate maths model paper carries 100 marks with no practical. Teach in the student's medium, Hindi or English.
CBSE is widely followed in Lucknow, from Gomti Nagar's khands to Alambagh's sectors. Build on NCERT and the sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, with a steady rhythm of chapter, test and full paper. A tutor on the Red Line can reach CBSE students in Hazratganj, Charbagh and Alambagh without a car.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
With so many Lucknow students on CISCE, tutors who know ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) well are easier to find here than in many cities. The papers expect long, organised answers, English literature is prescribed, and project work counts, so plan full-syllabus revision. Regulations are on cisce.org.
IB
Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)
A smaller number of Lucknow students take the IB Diploma, where internally assessed work counts beside final exams and Maths is taken as AA or AI at SL or HL. If the right teacher lives across the city, an online lesson avoids the trip. Guides are on ibo.org.
Cambridge IGCSE is about exam technique: command words, the correct tier, and past papers marked against the official scheme. Lucknow's IGCSE students are a smaller group, so tutors who teach online as well as at home can reach them across the city. Check the syllabus on Cambridge's or Pearson's own site before the demo.
