Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Class 11 is the year students in Lucknow most often underestimate. The board exam is a year away, but the syllabus is bigger than Class 10, many chapters return in Class 12 and in entrance tests, and the stream chosen in April is hard to change by September. This page is written by Ajay Vatsyayan, our IB, IGCSE and ISC maths author, with the NXTutors Academic Team. It covers how the UP Board, CBSE, ISC and IB treat Class 11, what the UP Board's Intermediate syllabi weight most, where JEE, NEET and CUET fit, how to spend tuition across a stream, and how tutors reach each part of the city.
The pace doubles and the support thins. In maths, sets, functions, trigonometric identities and limits arrive in the first months, and a student who relied on solved examples in Class 10 runs out of patterns. Physics leans on vectors and calculus before most schools have taught either properly. Chemistry adds mole concept calculations and the first organic chemistry. Commerce students meet double-entry accounting, which rewards steady practice and punishes a missed fortnight. Add coaching for an entrance test, and a student can fall a month behind in school work without noticing until the half-yearly exam.
| Board | Structure | Rules that bite |
|---|---|---|
| UP Board (Intermediate) | Class 11 and 12 in streams the board groups as science, commerce, arts and agriculture; students registered in advance in Class 11 | Teach to the board's own syllabus and paper; Hindi or English medium |
| CBSE | A two-year XI-XII course with at least five subjects | Mathematics and Applied Mathematics cannot both be taken; sciences are 70 theory + 30 practical, maths and commerce subjects 80 + 20 |
| ISC (CISCE) | English plus three to five electives, six at most; practicals compulsory | No subject change after 15 September of Class 11; promotion needs 35% in four subjects including English and 75% attendance |
| IB Diploma | Six subjects, normally three at Higher Level, with TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS | Internal assessments start early in the two years |
ISC has a strong, long-standing following in Lucknow, so a tutor's ISC experience is easier to find here than in many cities, and worth asking for if that is your board. See our ICSE and ISC, CBSE and IB pages for Lucknow, and our ISC maths tutor page.
The Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, has used the 10+2 pattern from the start, with the Intermediate examination at the end of Class 12. Its 2026-27 Class 11 syllabi show where a tutor's hours should go:
The same syllabi list four school-level unit tests for remedial teaching, in July, August, November and December, whose marks are not added to the result; a tutor can use them as monthly checks. The board's Class 11 subject list is wide, from physics, accountancy and economics to psychology, sociology, logic and agriculture, so tell us exactly which papers your child takes. Our UP Board tutors in Lucknow page has more.
| Stream | Subject that usually needs a tutor first | Why | Lucknow page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Science with maths | Maths, then physics | Functions, trigonometry and calculus run through physics too | Maths, physics |
| Science with biology | Chemistry or physics | Biology is reading-heavy and self-study works; numericals do not | Chemistry, biology |
| Commerce | Accountancy | Each chapter builds on journal entries and ledgers from the last | Commerce, accountancy |
| Humanities | Economics or English | Diagrams, data and long answers need structure | Economics, English |
By Class 11, one tutor per subject that needs help usually beats one tutor for everything. For the reasoning behind stream choice, read our article on choosing a Class 11 stream; it was written for Gurugram but the logic holds anywhere.
All three draw on Class 11 content. NTA holds JEE Main in two sessions in the first half of the year, NEET UG once a year, and CUET UG for admission to central and participating universities. Always take dates and eligibility from that year's information bulletin. In Class 11 the practical points are these: a student in a coaching batch needs the school syllabus kept up, since the board exam still counts; a home tutor is most useful clearing the backlog of coaching problems and fixing the weakest subject; and a commerce or humanities student aiming for CUET should not neglect Class 11 concepts that Class 12 builds on. See our JEE and NEET pages for Lucknow, and our CUET preparation guide.
Write the week out before booking anyone. A science student with coaching on three evenings might keep this shape:
| Day | Evening |
|---|---|
| Monday, Wednesday, Friday | Coaching, then thirty minutes listing the problems that did not come out |
| Tuesday | Tutor for the weakest subject, working through that list and the school chapter |
| Thursday | Self-study: school exercises and the practical file |
| Saturday | Tutor again, a timed test on the week's topics |
| Sunday | Half a day off; a light read of the next chapter |
Without coaching, two tutor sessions a week per difficult subject and a fortnightly test are usually enough.
Senior tutors are fewer, so geography matters more. Homes near the Red Line, from Munshi Pulia and Indira Nagar in the east, through IT College and Badshahnagar for the Trans-Gomti side and Hazratganj and Sachivalaya in the old centre, to Krishna Nagar, Transport Nagar and Amausi on the Kanpur Road side, can draw on specialists from along the whole line. The Shaheed Path townships, Jankipuram and Gomti Nagar Extension have no station; there, a physics or accountancy specialist living across the city is usually better used online, with home visits reserved for a tutor who lives nearby.
Online works well for most Class 11 students, provided the tutor can see the working on a shared board or a camera over the notebook. It brings in ISC, IB or JEE-level specialists who may not live nearby, and saves a long evening trip after coaching. Home visits suit a student who needs structure, or one who has fallen behind and must be watched while practising. A weekend home session plus a weekday online doubt hour is a pattern that suits many families.
The demo is free, and if it does not work, another tutor from your shortlist can give one. Changing later carries no charge. Every tutor who joins completes an ID check before the profile is marked Verified.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For Class 11, the subject, the board, entrance-level depth, the tutor's experience and the trip to your home make the difference. Fees are set by tutors and shown on your shortlist before the demo. See the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Lucknow.
Indira Nagar, with four Red Line stations along its blocks, is one of the easiest places in the city for a senior specialist to reach by metro. Nishatganj, between Hazratganj and Mahanagar, is near IT College station; avoid the office-hour rush on the road towards Gomti Nagar. Aminabad sits in the old market district, where Sachivalaya is the nearest working station until the Blue Line opens; weekend mornings or online sessions avoid the evening crowds.
Krishna Nagar has its own station on the Kanpur Road stretch of the line, so a tutor from Alambagh or Charbagh can be at your door with a short walk. Sarojini Nagar, near the airport end, is served by Amausi and Transport Nagar stations; apartment complexes there register visitors at the gate. Vrindavan Yojana, a housing board township on Raebareli Road, has no metro, so pair a nearby tutor for home visits with an online specialist where needed.
The board year before is on Class 10 tutors in Lucknow, and the final year on Class 12 tutors in Lucknow. Write to us with the stream, board, medium, the subjects that need help, any coaching timings and your locality; we come back with two or three tutors and their fees. Arrange a free demo or look through tutor profiles.
The syllabus roughly doubles, new tools such as functions, vectors, the mole concept and double-entry accounting arrive in the first months, and many students are also starting coaching. Chapters return in Class 12 and entrance tests, so gaps left in Class 11 cost twice. A tutor in the weakest subject from the first term helps most.
For 2026-27 the board's Class 11 maths syllabus is a single 100-mark paper. Algebra carries 35 marks and sets and functions 28, nearly two-thirds between them, followed by coordinate geometry at 15, statistics and probability at 12 and calculus at 10. A tutor should weight practice the same way, and use the four school unit tests as monthly checks.
Only until 15 September of Class 11, under CISCE rules. ISC students take English plus three to five electives, with practicals compulsory, and promotion needs 35% in four subjects including English and 75% attendance. Settle the combination early, and get help in the weakest elective before the half-yearly exam.
Often, if one subject is slipping. Coaching sets a fast pace; a home tutor clears the backlog of unsolved problems and keeps the board syllabus on track, since board marks still matter. Choose a tutor for the weakest subject rather than all three, and schedule sessions on non-coaching days.
For science with maths, usually maths, because functions, trigonometry and calculus feed into physics. For science with biology, chemistry or physics numericals. For commerce, accountancy, since every chapter builds on the last. For humanities, economics or English writing. One specialist per weak subject usually works better than one tutor for all.
For most students, yes, as long as the tutor can see the working on a shared board or a camera over the notebook. It brings in ISC, IB or JEE-level specialists from across the city and saves a long trip after coaching. Students who drift or have fallen behind do better with home visits.
