Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

On every board a Lucknow student might sit, Class 9 is the first half of a two-year course, and its chapters return in the Class 10 paper. That makes it the easiest year to fix a weakness and the costliest one to ignore. This page is by Abhinandan Tiwary, our Class 10 maths author for CBSE and ICSE, and Aaditya Kashyap, our CBSE and ICSE science author. It explains what each board does with Class 9, how the UP Board's unit tests shape the term, which early signs call for a tutor, how to plan the year, and how to get a tutor to your door in each part of the city.
The jump in difficulty is real. In maths, polynomials, coordinate geometry and formal proofs arrive together. In science, motion and force bring the first serious numericals, chemistry starts to use atoms and formulae, and biology asks for labelled diagrams of cells and tissues. Because the CBSE and ICSE courses both treat Classes 9 and 10 as one block, and the UP Board starts registering High School candidates in Class 9, the habits a student forms this year usually decide the Class 10 result.
| Board | Who sets the Class 9 exam | What is new for this batch | Tutor's priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBSE | The school; Class 9 is assessed internally as part of a two-year course | From 2026-27, maths and science are taught at one common standard, with an optional one-hour, 25-mark Advanced paper that is examined in Class 10 from 2027-28 and kept out of the aggregate; new NCERT books, Ganita Manjari and Exploration | Teach from the new books; decide by mid-year whether the Advanced paper suits your child |
| CISCE (ICSE) | The school sets the Class 9 final | Promotion needs 33% in five subjects including English, and 75% attendance; subjects cannot be changed after 15 September of Class 9 | Cover the full syllabus; settle the subject choice early |
| UP Board | The school, with the board's syllabus and four unit tests | Class 9 students are registered in advance for the High School exam two years later | Follow the board's monthly syllabus and unit-test calendar |
| IGCSE and IB MYP | Cambridge assesses at the end of the two-year IGCSE; MYP is criterion-marked | IGCSE tier choices loom; MYP Year 5 brings the personal project | Past papers and command words for IGCSE; criteria for MYP |
Lucknow has a long-standing ICSE and ISC tradition alongside CBSE and the UP Board, so it is worth confirming that a tutor has taught your exact board in Class 9, not only "Class 9". See the CBSE, ICSE and IGCSE pages for Lucknow.
The Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, prints a unit-test calendar at the end of its 2026-27 subject syllabi. The four tests are part of remedial teaching: schools hold them, and the marks are not added to the result. They are still the most useful checkpoints in the UP Board year:
| Test | When | Type | What a tutor should do before it |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | Second week of July | Multiple choice; 20 marks, half for summer-vacation homework | Make sure the holiday homework is genuinely done, then revise the first chapters |
| Second | Last week of August | Descriptive answers | Practise full written answers with working and diagrams |
| Third | Last week of November | Multiple choice | Quick-recall drills on definitions, formulae and units |
| Fourth | Last week of December | Descriptive answers | Timed long answers on the year's hardest chapters |
The board also posts a month-wise syllabus, model papers and a question bank on upmsp.edu.in. A tutor who works from those, in the student's medium, keeps a UP Board child on the board's own pace. Our UP Board tutors in Lucknow page goes further.
Any two of these by August deserve action. Start with the subject that is furthest behind; for most students that is maths. See Class 9 maths and Class 9 science.
A long session works well in four parts. First, ten minutes on last week's mistakes notebook, so old errors do not return. Next, about forty minutes of new teaching on the chapter the school is doing, with the student solving rather than copying. Then twenty-five minutes of written practice in exam style, timed, with the tutor marking every step. Finally, a few minutes to set the week's self-study: which exercises, which definitions, which diagram to redraw. When maths and science share a session, alternate the order each week so neither is always taught when the student is tired. Ask the tutor to keep the marked practice sheets; by December they show clearly how far the student has come.
Only if school work is already secure. A foundation batch adds hours and harder problems, and a student who is struggling with Class 9 basics gains little from it. If your child is comfortable at school and enjoys problem-solving, a foundation course or a tutor who adds challenge problems on top of the syllabus can help. If not, a tutor focused on the school course is the better use of time this year. Our JEE and NEET pages for Lucknow explain the later stages.
A Class 9 student usually needs two or three sessions a week, so the tutor's route has to be one they can repeat. The Red Line runs from Munshi Pulia in the east, past Badshahnagar and IT College near the Trans-Gomti colonies, under Hazratganj and Lalbagh and down the Kanpur Road side to Amausi. Homes near those stations can choose from tutors along the whole line. Jankipuram, Gomti Nagar Extension, Chinhat and the Shaheed Path townships have no station, so tutors there come by road, and someone living in the same area is easiest to keep through the year. Evening traffic on Kanpur Road, Shaheed Path and Raebareli Road is the thing to plan around.
Maths and physics numericals benefit from a tutor who watches each line being written, which is easiest at home. Online suits a specialist who lives far away, an IGCSE or ICSE tutor across the city for example, or a midweek doubt session that saves a journey. The working must stay visible: a phone held over the notebook or a tablet with a stylus. Many families settle on a home visit at the weekend and a shorter online session midweek.
The demo costs nothing, and switching tutors later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is shown.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For Class 9, the board, the number of subjects, whether foundation-level problems are wanted, the tutor's experience and the journey decide where a quote falls. Tutors set their own fees, and each one is visible before the demo. See the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Lucknow.
Mahanagar has no metro station of its own, but Badshahnagar and IT College are close, and most homes are houses where the tutor comes straight to the door. Jankipuram, further north, is reached only by road, so a tutor from Jankipuram itself, Aliganj or Vikas Nagar is the realistic choice for weekday sessions. In the east, Gomti Nagar Extension mixes authority flats, plots and private towers along Shaheed Path; arrange an entry pass at the gate in the first week.
Aishbagh, around its railway junction, is densely built; tutors usually come by two-wheeler or auto from Charbagh, and a time away from the office rush works better. Ashiyana is mostly independent houses in the Kanpur Road scheme, with Krishna Nagar station nearby and parking outside most homes. In Sushant Golf City, gated towers expect visitor registration, and with no metro a tutor living in the township or nearby is easiest to keep.
The years either side are on Class 6 to 8 and Class 10 tutors in Lucknow. Send the board, medium, subjects, locality and free slots, and two or three matched tutors come back with fees. Request a free demo, see tutor profiles or start from home tutors in Lucknow.
Yes, in effect. CBSE and ICSE both treat Classes 9 and 10 as one two-year course, so Class 9 chapters return in the Class 10 paper, even though the school sets the Class 9 exam. The UP Board registers Class 9 students in advance for the High School exam two years later.
The board's 2026-27 syllabi list four unit tests for remedial teaching: multiple choice in the second week of July, descriptive in the last week of August, multiple choice in late November and descriptive in late December. Schools hold them, and the marks are not added to the result, but they show gaps early.
Maths and science are taught at a common standard, with an optional one-hour, 25-mark Advanced paper that is board-examined in Class 10 from 2027-28 and kept out of the aggregate. New NCERT books, Ganita Manjari and Exploration, are used. A tutor should teach from these books.
Only until 15 September of Class 9, under the CISCE regulations. After that the choice is fixed for the two-year course. Promotion to Class 10 needs 33% in five subjects including English and 75% attendance, so settle the subjects early and get help in the weakest one before the first term ends.
Only if school work is already comfortable. A foundation batch adds hours and harder problems, which helps a confident student but overloads one who is struggling with Class 9 basics. In that case a tutor focused on the school course, with occasional challenge questions, is the better choice this year.
Yes. Mention the UP Board and Hindi medium in your request, and we look for tutors who teach maths and science in Hindi, using the terms your child will write in exams, and who work from the board's monthly syllabus, model papers and question bank on upmsp.edu.in.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with senior classes, IB/IGCSE and entrance work at the upper end. A Class 9 quote depends on the board, the number of subjects, any foundation-level work and the journey. Fees show on your shortlist before the free demo.
