Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The Punjab School Education Board, known everywhere by its initials PSEB, is one of the three boards Jalandhar families deal with, alongside CBSE and CISCE. What makes the board unusual is how much it publishes about its own papers. For each subject and each session it puts out a structure of the question paper, with the number of questions, the marks for each kind and, in many subjects, the word length expected for an answer. A tutor who works from those structures is preparing your child for the paper that will actually be set. Below are four 2026-27 structures beyond maths and science, the school-based marks, medium, changing board, and choosing a tutor. Board facts were read on pseb.ac.in in October 2026 and may change next session.
The board's own history page says a law passed in November 1969 created it to develop school education in Punjab, and that a 1987 amendment to its Act made it autonomous. It works from Vidya Bhawan, Phase-8, SAS Nagar (Mohali). It prescribes the curriculum, courses of study and textbooks, affiliates schools, and holds public examinations at three levels: Middle (Class 8), Matriculation (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12). Its certificates for all three classes are available on DigiLocker.
Books and e-books, session-wise syllabi, a question bank, model test papers and the 2026-27 paper structures all sit on that one site. They are revised often, so an old photocopied guide is a poor base.
The board's home page already carries notices for the next Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, which it lists for February/March 2027: an examination form schedule with fee instructions, a press note on the form, and a schedule for re-appear or compartment candidates, additional subjects and division improvement. Schools handle the forms, but parents should read the notices that apply to their child, especially for a re-appear or an improvement attempt, because the windows are fixed.
English is an 80-mark written paper plus 20 internal marks, set in four sections.
| Section | Content | What to practise |
|---|---|---|
| A: Reading | An unseen passage and an unseen poster, four multiple-choice questions on each | Reading a poster for its key facts, not just a passage |
| B: Literature | Questions from the Main Course Book (prose and poetry, including a stanza and a central idea) and the Supplementary Reader | Short answers to length, and a central idea in a few clear lines |
| C: Vocabulary | Pairs of words, idioms, proverbs, one-word substitution, correcting sentences | A short daily list, tested aloud |
| D: Grammar, translation, composition | Ten grammar items; translation from English into Punjabi or Hindi and back; a notice or message, an advertisement or note, a paragraph and a letter | Translation both ways, and one written composition each week |
The structure also fixes answer lengths: long answers of about 50 to 60 words, short answers of 20 to 30 and very short answers of 5 to 10. Translation between English and Punjabi or Hindi is a skill many tutors overlook; ask for someone comfortable in both languages. Our English tutors in Jalandhar page covers the subject across boards.
Social science is often left to the last month, though its 2026-27 paper is clearly laid out: six sections, every question compulsory.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 10 multiple-choice | 10 | Spread across geography, economics, history and civics |
| B | 10 objective (blanks, true/false, one word or sentence) | 10 | Same spread |
| C | 8 short answers | 24 | 30 to 50 words each |
| D | 4 long answers | 20 | 80 to 100 words; internal choice in every question |
| E | 2 case or source-based | 8 | Economics and civics; built on learning outcomes, not lifted from the textbook |
| F | 2 map questions | 8 | India for geography, undivided Punjab before 1947 for history; 4 of 6 places each |
Geography and history carry 24 marks each, economics and civics 16 each. Map work is eight marks that regular practice nearly secures, so keep a blank map in every session, and practise the case questions on unseen passages rather than familiar textbook paragraphs.
The social science structure spells out its 20 school-based marks, which it calls continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE), more precisely than most parents expect.
Other subjects have their own internal assessment, usually called INA. Either way, notebooks, unit tests and the pre-board count, so a tutor should check and prepare, and leave the project itself to the student.
At Class 12, General English is again 80 marks plus 20 internal, but the balance shifts towards writing and literature. Reading carries 16 marks from two unseen passages. Writing, grammar and translation together carry 27: a précis, an official or business letter, explaining newspaper headlines or writing an e-mail, translation both ways and grammar items such as voice and narration. Literature carries 37 marks, with long answers of 100 to 120 words on theme, character or incident. The books are prescribed and published by the board.
Answers here run about twice the Class 10 length, so one précis and one long literature answer each week, marked for content and language, is a sound routine.
The accountancy theory paper carries 80 marks, with 15 for practical work and 5 for internal assessment. There are nine questions. Section A is compulsory; the student then answers either Section B or Section C, not both. The first question has 16 one-mark parts answered in 1 to 15 words, two-mark answers run to 40 to 60 words, and there is no word or page limit for numerical answers. A non-programmable simple calculator is allowed.
A tutor should agree early which of Section B or C the school teaches, and practise numericals with full working and the calculator your child will carry. Our national accountancy tutor page goes into the subject further.
Class 12 maths for 2026-27 is 18 questions for 80 marks plus 20 internal, with no calculator. Physics, chemistry and biology each set a 70-mark theory paper. How these compare with the national entrance tests is on our JEE and NEET pages for Jalandhar.
NTA's engineering page says admission to NITs, IIITs and similar institutes through JEE (Main) needs at least 75% in Class 12 or a place in the highest 20 percentile of the student's own board (65% for SC and ST candidates). For a PSEB student, that percentile is worked out among PSEB candidates, so the Senior Secondary result matters for entrance too. Subject pages: maths, physics, chemistry and biology.
The board's book list marks many titles with Punjabi, Hindi and English versions, such as its mathematics and science books. Jalandhar homes use all three languages, often in one sentence. What matters for marks is that the tutor's written practice uses the exact terms printed in your child's version of the book, whichever it is. Spoken explanation can switch freely; the notebook should not. Mention the medium in your request along with the class.

Matching starts with tutors who live in or already travel to your locality, widens to the zone and the whole city, and only then turns to online. A few examples of what to tell a tutor:
| Locality | Zone | Address and timing tip |
|---|---|---|
| Ranjeet Nagar | Cantonment and Rama Mandi | Street, house number and your spelling of the name |
| Rama Mandi | Cantonment and Rama Mandi | Colony or street first; the name stretches either side of the chowk |
| Adarsh Nagar | Central Jalandhar | Block and house number with Bastian Road |
| Central Town | Central Jalandhar | Street number before house number; slots soon after school start on time |
| Basti Sheikh | Old Bastis | Gali or mohalla name and a map pin; ask for a tutor who explains in Punjabi if that helps |
| Basti Guzan | Old Bastis | House number, gali and a landmark known in the basti |
The full list of localities sits on the Jalandhar home tutors page, with zone-by-zone timing in our Jalandhar tuition guide. When nobody suitable lives close, pairing a home visit with a screen lesson each week works well; see online tuition in Jalandhar. Relatives elsewhere in the state can use the Ludhiana and Amritsar PSEB pages.
Each request brings two or three matched tutors with fees visible up front, the opening lesson costs nothing, and a change of tutor later is also free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how we check tutors). For more prompts, see our checklist for demo classes.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors price their own lessons; the pricing guide and our Jalandhar fees post show what shifts the figure.
In your first message, include the class, any Senior Secondary stream, the book medium, whether it is regular or open school, a locality and landmark, and your preferred days. Then book the free demo or look through profiles on Find Tutors. Teachers of PSEB subjects can pick up students through Jalandhar tuition jobs and the wider Punjab jobs page.
The PSEB Class 10 social science paper for 2026-27 has 80 written marks across six sections, all compulsory. They are 10 multiple-choice, 10 objective, 8 short answers of 30 to 50 words, 4 long answers of 80 to 100 words, 2 case or source questions and 2 map questions. History maps cover undivided Punjab before 1947, and geography maps cover India.
The 20 school-based marks in PSEB Class 10 social science come from five parts of the school year. Under the 2026-27 structure they are periodic tests (5), a project or activity (5), the school pre-board (5), class participation and regular work (3), and the book bank (2). A Jalandhar tutor should check notebooks and prepare for unit tests, never do the project.
Yes, the PSEB Class 10 English paper for 2026-27 includes translation from English into Punjabi or Hindi and back, three items each way. It also has reading, literature, vocabulary, ten grammar items and four kinds of writing. Long answers run about 50 to 60 words, so a Jalandhar tutor should practise both translation and writing to length.
PSEB Class 12 accountancy in 2026-27 has an 80-mark theory paper, 15 practical marks and 5 internal. The paper has nine questions: Section A is compulsory, then the student answers either Section B or Section C. A non-programmable calculator is allowed, and numerical answers have no word or page limit. Agree with the tutor which section your school teaches.
PSEB's home page lists its next Class 10 and Class 12 examinations for February/March 2027. The notices cover the examination form, fees, and a schedule for re-appear, additional subject and division improvement candidates. Schools handle the forms, but Jalandhar parents should read the notices that apply, especially for a re-appear or improvement attempt.
A PSEB tutor in Jalandhar should teach from the same version of the book your child's school uses. The board marks many titles in Punjabi, Hindi and English versions, such as its mathematics and science books. Spoken explanation can switch between languages, but written practice should use the terms printed in your child's book and the language of the paper.
Yes, a family arriving in Jalandhar from another state can join a PSEB school, within the board's admission rules. PSEB sets admission conditions for Classes VIII to XII each session and a schedule for documents to register Class IX and XI students from other states or boards. Ask the new school early. A tutor can then spend the first weeks on PSEB books and one timed model paper.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Send the class, stream, medium and locality; we send two or three matched tutors with fees shown, and the first class is a free demo.
PSEB Class 12 General English for 2026-27 is an 80-mark paper plus 20 internal marks, weighted towards writing and literature. Reading carries 16 marks from two unseen passages. Writing, grammar and translation carry 27, including a précis and an official or business letter, and literature carries 37, with long answers of 100 to 120 words. One précis and one long answer a week is a sound routine.
Yes, a 2026-27 PSEB press note announced online admissions to the board's open school at Matriculation and Senior Secondary level. Open-school learners in Jalandhar have no classroom to set a rhythm, so a fixed weekly tutor slot and a model paper each month or so help a great deal. Mention open school in your request, with the class and book medium.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
