What home tuition costs in Jalandhar

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE and ISC home tutors in Jalandhar: three subject groups, a second language and answers written at length

CISCE schools sit alongside CBSE and the Punjab School Education Board in Jalandhar, and the council's courses are known for their breadth: English taught as literature as well as language, three separate sciences, a second language, history and geography with long written answers. That breadth is also where children struggle. A good ICSE tutor plans the year in rounds, marks long answers line by line, and knows the council's rules well enough to spot a problem before it costs a subject. This page explains the ICSE subject groups for 2027, what the new circular means for Punjabi and other Indian languages, the ISC rules worth knowing in Class 11, and how to find and judge a tutor across Jalandhar.

The three ICSE subject groups for 2027

ICSE subject groups under the 2027 regulations on cisce.org
GroupSubjectsMarks split
Group I (compulsory)English; a second language (one or two); History, Civics and Geography80 external, 20 internal
Group II (two or three)Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Economics, Commercial Studies, a modern foreign language, a classical language, Environmental Science80 external, 20 internal
Group III (one or two)Computer Applications and other application and skill subjects50 external, 50 internal

The regulations expect most candidates to take both Mathematics and Science from Group II, and they ask schools to explain the consequences if a child chooses otherwise. Group III carries half its marks internally, so the project and practical work there decide a large share of the grade. Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service is compulsory too, assessed by the school.

Three rules that catch families out

  • Subjects are fixed early. Candidates may not change subjects after 15 September of the year they are registered in Class IX, and cannot take a Class X subject they did not register for and study in Class IX. Think hard about Group II and Group III choices before that date.
  • Promotion to Class X has its own test. A student needs at least 33% in five subjects, including English, on the year's cumulative record, and attendance of at least 75% of working days.
  • Two second languages means Hindi is one. If your child offers two second languages in Group I, one of them must be Hindi.

A tutor cannot change these rules, but a tutor who knows them can warn you in time. If your child is weak in a subject in Class IX, the fix has to start then.

Punjabi, Hindi and the 2027 change to prescribed texts

Punjabi is among the Indian languages a CISCE school can offer as the second language. The ICSE paper for these languages carries 80 marks plus 20 internal. Section A, worth 40 marks, is language work: a composition, a letter, an unseen passage of about 250 words, and grammar. Section B, also 40 marks, is the prescribed texts: four questions from only two of the set books, all answered in the language.

A CISCE circular dated 20 April 2026 changes how the set books are studied in Punjabi, Hindi and several other Indian languages for the 2027 and 2028 examination years, at both ICSE and ISC. The prescribed texts are split between the two years: the Class IX exam covers only the Class IX portion, and the ICSE paper in Class X is set only on the Class X portion. The same applies to Classes XI and XII. The language section is not split, and the pattern of the paper stays the same.

For a Jalandhar family this is useful news. The Class X Punjabi or Hindi load is lighter on texts, but the composition, letter and grammar still draw on everything learnt. A tutor should teach the Class X texts closely and keep writing practice going every week. Our English tutors in Jalandhar page covers the Group I English papers.

Maths and the three sciences

Mathematics and each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology carry 80 external and 20 internal marks under the regulations, and the three sciences are examined as separate papers. That means three sets of definitions, diagrams and numericals to keep fresh at once, and Classes 9 and 10 are when outside help tends to pay off most.

Where ICSE students in maths and science usually need a tutor
SubjectTypical difficultyWeekly fix
MathematicsLong multi-step problems with marks for methodOne full problem written out each session, checked for every step
PhysicsNumericals with units, and ray or circuit diagramsDiagram drawn from memory, then a numerical with units shown
ChemistryEquations, tests for ions and gases, definitions word for wordA short recall quiz and two balanced equations
BiologyLabelled diagrams and explanations in the right termsDiagram, label, then a written explanation of one process

For Classes 9 and 10, science tutors in Jalandhar can take all three papers; maths home tutors cover ICSE and ISC maths, and the Class 10 maths page goes deeper.

Revision in rounds, not one long sweep

With so many papers, the commonest mistake is to revise each subject once, in order, and reach the last one exhausted. A round-based plan works better:

  1. Round one (through the first term): every chapter taught and summarised in the student's own notes.
  2. Round two (second term): one past-style question per chapter, written in full and marked.
  3. Round three (before the pre-boards): timed sections, mixing subjects in the same week.
  4. Round four (final weeks): only the weak chapters found in rounds two and three.

The tutor keeps a one-page tracker for every subject, marking each chapter as taught, practised or secure. It shows at a glance where the next round should start, and it gives parents a simple way to see progress without reading every notebook.

ISC in Classes 11 and 12

The ISC course is English plus three to five electives, with at most six subjects. A Class XII subject must have been studied in Class XI, practicals are compulsory where a subject has them, and Physics cannot be paired with Engineering Science. Promotion from Class XI needs 35% in four subjects including English and 75% attendance. ISC Mathematics is 80 marks of theory and 20 of project work. These points are summarised from the council's regulations on our ICSE and ISC board hub; read the current ISC regulations on cisce.org before choosing electives.

The ISC chapter order can differ from the order entrance practice follows, so a student aiming at engineering or medicine should map the two early. See JEE and NEET tutors in Jalandhar, and the ISC maths tutor page.

How the CISCE style compares with the Punjab board

Families sometimes weigh ISC against PSEB or CBSE for Class 11. The papers feel different. PSEB's Class 10 English paper for 2026-27, for instance, includes translation between English and Punjabi or Hindi, and its long answers are set at 50 to 60 words. ICSE English expects longer, more developed answers on set texts and composition. Neither is easier; they reward different habits. If your child is moving, give the first month to the new board's books and a timed practice paper. Our Punjab board and CBSE pages for Jalandhar explain those boards, and the board and stream guide helps with the choice.

Tutors in six Jalandhar localities

We search near your home first, then your zone, then the rest of Jalandhar, and online after that.

Every locality is on the Jalandhar home tutors page, and the Jalandhar home tuition guide has more local timing advice. For a subject where no specialist lives nearby, online tutors for Jalandhar can fill the gap.

Testing a tutor against the CISCE style

  1. Ask the tutor to mark a long answer your child wrote recently, and explain where marks were lost.
  2. Ask how they would plan the year in rounds across all subjects, not just theirs.
  3. For Punjabi or Hindi, ask whether they know the 2027 split of prescribed texts.
  4. For Class 9, ask what they would watch for before the September subject deadline.
  5. Check they can hold one fixed slot every week.

ICSE Home Tutor in Jalandhar (ICSE & ISC, Classes 6–12): common questions

Can an ICSE student in Jalandhar take Punjabi as the second language?

Yes, Punjabi is one of the Indian languages listed in the ICSE 2027 regulations for the Group I second language, where the school offers it. The paper is 80 marks plus 20 internal: 40 for language work such as composition, a letter, an unseen passage and grammar, and 40 for prescribed texts. If two second languages are taken, one must be Hindi.

What changed for ICSE Punjabi and Hindi set books in 2027?

A CISCE circular of 20 April 2026 split the prescribed texts for Punjabi, Hindi and several other Indian languages for the 2027 and 2028 examination years. The Class IX exam covers the Class IX portion, and the ICSE paper only the Class X portion; ISC works the same way. The language section is not split, and the paper pattern is unchanged.

When can an ICSE student no longer change subjects?

An ICSE student cannot change subjects after 15 September of the year they are registered in Class IX, under the 2027 regulations. A Class X subject must also have been registered for and studied in Class IX. A Jalandhar family should settle Group II and Group III choices with the school and tutor before that date.

What does a student need to be promoted from ICSE Class 9 to Class 10?

A student needs at least 33% in five subjects, including English, and 75% attendance to move from ICSE Class IX to Class X. The ICSE 2027 regulations judge the marks on the year's cumulative record and the attendance on working days. If a subject is slipping in Class IX, start the tutor then rather than waiting for Class X.

How are ICSE Group III subjects marked?

ICSE Group III subjects, such as Computer Applications, are marked 50% external and 50% internal, against 80 and 20 in Groups I and II. Half the grade therefore rests on project and practical work during the year. A tutor can supervise and check that work, but the student must make and write it.

Is ISC a sensible choice for a Jalandhar student aiming at JEE or NEET?

ISC can suit a Jalandhar student aiming at JEE or NEET, but its chapter order may differ from entrance practice, so map the two at the start of Class 11. ISC needs English plus three to five electives, at most six subjects, and Physics cannot be paired with Engineering Science. Read the current regulations on cisce.org before choosing.

What should a Defence Colony or Vijay Nagar family tell an ICSE tutor?

A Defence Colony family should give the house number, block and Cantonment Road, and share the current CISCE book list, since set texts change. In Vijay Nagar, write Bastian Road and Jalandhar in full, as many cities have a Vijay Nagar. Both details help us suggest a tutor who can reach you every week.

Which Group II subjects should an ICSE student in Jalandhar take?

Most ICSE students take both Mathematics and Science from Group II, as the 2027 regulations expect. Group II asks for two or three subjects from a list that also includes Economics, Commercial Studies, Environmental Science and a modern foreign or classical language. Schools must explain the consequences if a child leaves out Maths or Science, so ask before 15 September of Class IX.

How do we arrange an ICSE or ISC home tutor in Jalandhar?

What does an ICSE or ISC home tutor in Jalandhar cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. You see each tutor's fee before the free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
