Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CBSE is one of the three boards Jalandhar families deal with, beside the Punjab School Education Board and CISCE. Its 2026-27 curriculum brings real changes for children in the middle classes: a compulsory third language, a new two-level choice in Class IX maths and science, and the steady move towards questions that test reading and reasoning rather than memory. A good CBSE tutor knows these documents, teaches from NCERT and the board's sample papers, and makes sure written answers carry every step the marking scheme looks for. This page explains what the curriculum says, how marks are split, what changes when a child moves between CBSE and the Punjab board, and how to choose a tutor in Jalandhar.
The CBSE Secondary curriculum for 2026-27, published on cbseacademic.nic.in, sets out several shifts that families should know about before choosing a tutor.
| Change | Who it affects | What a tutor should do |
|---|---|---|
| Maths and science at two levels: a common Standard paper for all, plus an optional Advanced paper of 25 marks | Class IX from 2026-27 (school exam); Class X board from 2027-28 | Help decide early whether Advanced suits the child, and plan the extra content if so |
| Advanced marks not added to the total; 50% or more is noted on the marksheet | Students who opt for Advanced | Treat it as stretch work, never at the cost of the common paper |
| Basic and Standard maths discontinued | From 2026-27, except the 2026-27 Class X batch, which stays on the old scheme | Confirm which scheme your child's year follows |
| Third language (R3) compulsory | Classes VI and IX from 2026-27 | Keep it in the weekly plan; certification depends on clearing it |
| Computational Thinking and AI | Classes III to VIII from 2026-27 | Support worksheets and projects if the school asks for help at home |
The curriculum organises languages as R1, R2 and R3, and two of the three must be languages native to India. From 2026-27 the third language is compulsory from Classes VI and IX. For students entering Class IX in 2026-27, R3 is assessed entirely in school, with no separate Class X board paper, but the board's certificate is awarded only once it is cleared. Punjabi appears among the language curricula CBSE publishes, so many Jalandhar schools may offer it as one of the three.
For a family, the practical point is that a "small" subject now carries a real condition. If your child is weak in the third language, include it in the tutor's plan from the start of Class IX rather than leaving it to the school alone. A tutor who explains maths in Punjabi or Hindi while the child writes in English can also help with this kind of language bridge.
In major subjects the split is 80 marks for the external examination (the Class X board, or the school's annual exam in Class IX) and 20 for internal assessment. A student must reach 33% separately in the external and internal parts to pass a subject. The two-level structure for maths and science does not touch the 20 internal marks. The Gurgaon board hub also describes the board's notification on two Class X board exams: the first is compulsory, and a second is available to improve up to three of science, maths, social science and the languages.
Internal marks are often treated lightly at home. They should not be. Projects, notebooks and periodic tests feed straight into the result, and a tutor can keep them on time without doing them for the child. A simple habit helps: at the start of each month, the tutor and your child list every school deadline in that subject, and the last session before each one is kept for checking rather than new teaching.
The curriculum says that at present roughly half the board questions are competency-focused: case-based, source-based, integrated, data interpretation, situational and application questions. The rest are multiple choice and short or long written answers. In practice, a student who knows the chapter can still lose marks by rushing the passage or misreading a graph.
The board's sample question papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in are the right practice material. Our posts on Class 10 maths preparation and Class 10 science notes are a good start.
| Subject (code) | Theory | Practical or internal |
|---|---|---|
| Physics (042), Chemistry (043), Biology (044) | 70 | 30 |
| Mathematics (041) or Applied Mathematics (241), one only | 80 | 20 |
| Accountancy (055), Economics (030), Business Studies (054) | 80 | 20 |
The science subjects keep almost a third of their marks for practical work, so the file and the experiments deserve steady attention. Choosing between Mathematics and Applied Mathematics in Class 11 matters for later plans; a student who may sit engineering entrance needs the first. See our JEE and NEET pages for Jalandhar, and the Class 12 physics post.
A change of board can come from a move across the city, a new school, or a family arriving on a cantonment posting partway through the year. The Punjab School Education Board publishes revised admission conditions for Classes VIII to XII each session, and a schedule for the documents needed to register Class IX and XI students who come from other states or boards. Ask the new school early which papers they need.
Academically the gap runs both ways. A PSEB Class 10 social science paper, for example, has six sections in 2026-27, ending with map work on India and on undivided Punjab before 1947, and expects short answers of set lengths. A child moving to CBSE meets NCERT wording and more passage-based questions; a child moving to PSEB meets new books, possibly a different medium, and the board's own paper structures. Spend the first weeks on the new board's book and one practice paper under time. Our Punjab board tutors in Jalandhar page has the PSEB side, and the board and stream guide helps with the decision itself.
Subject pages for Jalandhar: maths, science up to Class 10, physics, chemistry, biology and English. Our CBSE board hub explains the board in more depth.
| Locality | Zone | What helps the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| Defence Colony | Cantonment and Rama Mandi | House number, block, and Cantonment Road as the road you turn in from |
| Ranjeet Nagar | Cantonment and Rama Mandi | Street and house number; say whether you write Ranjeet or Ranjit |
| Adarsh Nagar | Central Jalandhar | "Adarsh Nagar, Bastian Road, Jalandhar" with the block |
| Vijay Nagar | Central Jalandhar | The city and Bastian Road, since many cities have a Vijay Nagar |
| Basti Guzan | Old Bastis | Gali and house number; Ghuzan is another spelling in use |
| Basti Sheikh | Old Bastis | Gali or mohalla, a well-known landmark and a map pin |
The Cantonment and Rama Mandi, Central Jalandhar and Old Bastis zone pages add timing tips, and the Jalandhar home tuition guide covers the whole city. If no suitable tutor lives near you, a mix of home and online lessons keeps the week steady; the home versus online comparison explains the trade-offs.

The Advanced level is an optional extra paper of 25 marks in maths and science, beside the common Standard paper everyone sits. It starts in Class IX school exams from 2026-27 and in the Class X board from 2027-28. Advanced marks are not added to the total; 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. A tutor can help a Jalandhar family decide.
Yes, from 2026-27 CBSE makes the third language, R3, compulsory from Classes VI and IX, and two of a student's three languages must be native to India. For the Class IX batch of 2026-27 it is assessed in school, with no Class X board paper, but the certificate needs it cleared. Punjabi is among the languages CBSE publishes curricula for.
In major CBSE subjects, 80 marks come from the external exam, the board in Class X or the school's annual exam in Class IX, and 20 from internal assessment. A student must reach 33% separately in each part to pass. Projects, notebooks and periodic tests therefore count, and a Jalandhar tutor should keep them on schedule.
Competency questions are case-based, source-based, data and situation questions that test reasoning, and CBSE says about half its board questions are now of this kind. A student who knows the chapter can still lose marks by rushing the passage. Practise with the board's sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, reading slowly before writing.
A Jalandhar child moving from PSEB to CBSE changes through the new school, so ask early which documents it needs. In lessons, expect NCERT wording, more passage-based questions and full written steps. Spend the first weeks on the NCERT book and one sample paper under time, then fill the gaps the paper shows.
Physics (042), chemistry (043) and biology (044) carry 70 theory and 30 practical marks in CBSE Senior Secondary. Mathematics (041) or Applied Mathematics (241), only one, is 80 and 20, as are accountancy, economics and business studies. A Jalandhar student who may sit engineering entrance should take Mathematics rather than Applied Mathematics in Class 11.
An Adarsh Nagar family should write "Adarsh Nagar, Bastian Road, Jalandhar" with the block and house number, since several cities share the name. Vijay Nagar needs the same care: add Bastian Road and the city. Both are Improvement Trust schemes near the centre, so tutors from most parts of Jalandhar can reach them.
Yes, CBSE's notification allows an optional second Class X board exam to improve up to three subjects, after the compulsory first one. The subjects can come from science, maths, social science and the languages. A Jalandhar tutor can use the first result to pick the subjects worth a second attempt, then plan revision for those alone.
The 2026-27 Class X batch stays on the old Basic and Standard maths scheme, while CBSE discontinues it for other classes from 2026-27. In its place come a common Standard paper and an optional Advanced level of 25 marks. Ask the school which scheme your child's year follows, and make sure the tutor practises the right paper.
