Firozabad parents worry about UP Board maths and science; Hindi rarely comes up, because the family speaks it at home. Yet one Hindi paper holds literature history, set prose and poetry, a long narrative poem, poetic devices, grammar, a letter, an essay and a Sanskrit section. This page reads the 2026-27 Hindi files from upmsp.edu.in, explains the khand kavya set for Firozabad district, and shows how a tutor turns a "safe" subject into a scoring one, with local travel, demo questions and fees at the end.
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, known as the UP Board or UPMSP, was created at Prayagraj in 1921 by an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council, and it held its first examination in 1923. It has always run on a 10+2 pattern: the High School examination comes after ten years of school, and the Intermediate examination after Class 12. The head office is still in Prayagraj, and regional offices opened at Meerut in 1973, Varanasi in 1978, Bareilly in 1981 and Prayagraj in 1987.
For a result, mark sheet or certificate, start with the school, then the board's contact page for the office that handles Firozabad district. No tutor or agent can change a result. The website also carries the syllabus, model papers, a question bank and career guidance for the agriculture, arts, commerce and science streams, free.
The Hindi paper is long, with ten parts in Class 10 and twelve in Class 12. It mixes skills: old and modern verse, periods of literature, metres, Sanskrit translation and a formal letter all sit in one paper. And it rewards neat, complete answers, so a fluent speaker can still lose marks. Two short sessions a week from the start of Class 9 or Class 11 usually do more than a rush of revision in the final term.
The 2026-27 file splits Class 10 Hindi into a 70-mark written paper and 30 marks of internal assessment. The written marks fall across four units:
| Unit | Parts and marks | What the tutor does |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Prose | History of Hindi prose 5; set prose lessons 11 | A one-page timeline of periods and writers; passage questions practised weekly |
| 2. Poetry | History of Hindi poetry 5; set poems 11; khand kavya 3; elements of poetic beauty 3 | Verse explained line by line, then the student explains it back |
| 3. Sanskrit | Sanskrit section 14 | Translation with reference, a few shlokas learnt by heart |
| 4. Writing and grammar | Letter 4; grammar 7; essay 7 | One letter or essay written and corrected every week |
The Class 10 subject list also includes Elementary Hindi (subject 902). Confirm with the school which of the two your child is entered for before buying books or booking a tutor.
The written paper has a 20-mark multiple-choice section and a 50-mark descriptive section. The multiple-choice part asks about the periods of Hindi prose and poetry, two kinds of rasa (hasya and karuna), three figures of speech (upma, rupak and utpreksha), two metres (soratha and rola), and grammar such as prefixes, the four kinds of samas, tatsam and tadbhav words, synonyms, voice and the parts of speech. Quick, regular quizzes suit this half well.
| Question type | Marks |
|---|---|
| Questions on a set prose passage | 3 × 2 = 6 |
| Questions on a set verse passage | 3 × 2 = 6 |
| Sanskrit prose passage translated into Hindi, with reference | 2 + 3 = 5 |
| Sanskrit verse translated into Hindi, with reference | 2 + 3 = 5 |
| Khand kavya: story, characters or facts | 3 |
| Life and main work of a set prose writer | 3 + 2 = 5 |
| Life and main work of a set poet | 3 + 2 = 5 |
| One Sanskrit shloka from memory, not printed in the paper | 2 |
| Letter | 4 |
| Two answers written in Sanskrit | 1 + 1 = 2 |
| Essay | 7 |
Essay themes in the file include science, society, culture, the economy, population, health, education, the environment and traffic rules. A small bank of outlines on these saves thinking time on the day.
The internal 30 are earned at school through the year, in three parts of 10 marks each. The first is an oral expression test in August. The second is a creative writing test in December. The third comes from four unit tests, whose combined score is scaled down to 10: a multiple-choice test in the second week of July that also counts summer homework, a descriptive test in the last week of August, another multiple-choice test at the end of November and a descriptive one at the end of December.
So speaking matters: a child who answers in half sentences should practise retelling a lesson aloud. And with the test months known, revision for each can be planned weeks ahead.
A khand kavya is a long narrative poem, and the UP Board does not set the same one across the whole state. Each Hindi syllabus file lists several of them, each with the districts that study it. In the 2026-27 files, Firozabad district appears against Muktidoot for Class 10 Hindi, and against Tyagpathi for Class 12, in both Hindi and General Hindi. The file adds that districts not on the list, and newly created ones, keep reading the khand kavya they read in earlier years.
This catches families out. Aligarh district is set different poems in both classes, so a guidebook bought elsewhere or a tutor from another district may cover the wrong text. In Class 12 the khand kavya questions carry 5 marks, with an 80-word limit on each answer, and they ask about the story, the main characters and key events. Ask the school to confirm the title, and ask any tutor which khand kavya they have taught before.
In Class 12 the board lists two Hindi subjects. Both are a single 100-mark paper with a minimum of 33 to pass, and neither has internal marks, so the whole result rests on one sitting. General Hindi splits like this:
| Area | Marks | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| History of Hindi prose and of Hindi poetry | 5 + 5 | Periods in order, with their main forms |
| Set prose and set poetry | 15 + 15 | Passage questions, plus writer and poet introductions within 80 words |
| Story and khand kavya | 5 + 5 | 80-word answers on summary, purpose and characters |
| Sanskrit section | 14 | Prose and verse translated with reference, 7 marks each |
| Poetic beauty | 6 | Five rasas, eight alankars, four metres |
| Grammar and idioms | 10 | Word pairs, many-meaning words, one word for a phrase, error correction, idioms |
| Unseen passage | 5 | Reading closely before answering |
| Letter and essay | 6 + 9 | A job application, a bank loan request or a civic request; essays on set themes |
Hindi (101) is the fuller literature course, with more metres and figures of speech, two short answers in Sanskrit, objective Sanskrit grammar such as sandhi and samas, and an 8-mark letter. Four school unit tests in July, August, November and December do not count in the result, but show early which part is slipping.
Entrance students often leave Hindi until the last weeks; one steady hour a week protects it. Our JEE and NEET pages for Firozabad explain how to fit that hour in.
Sanskrit carries 14 marks in Class 10 Hindi and 14 in Class 12 General Hindi: set passages translated with their reference, a shloka from memory in Class 10, and short answers in Sanskrit itself. Not every Hindi tutor teaches Sanskrit confidently, so test it in the demo. The plan is simple: set lessons read aloud weekly, a notebook of word meanings, and one full translation each session.
Hindi is only one paper, and maths and science need plans of their own. Our other UP Board pages read different files: the Agra page covers Class 9 maths and science and Class 11 chemistry and biology, and the Aligarh page covers Class 11 physics and maths. For subject tutors in Firozabad, see maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English. If you are weighing a change of board, our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages describe those routes, and the guide to choosing a board and stream lists the questions to ask.
| Locality | Zone | What to share or plan |
|---|---|---|
| Arya Nagar | Gandhi Nagar and City Centre | The lane and a nearby shop; the area is compact, so the lane matters more than the name |
| Nai Basti | Gandhi Nagar and City Centre | A landmark visible from the main road before the tutor turns in |
| Ram Nagar | Tilak Nagar and Rasulpur | Add Firozabad and a nearby colony such as Shyam Nagar; many cities have a Ram Nagar |
| Rasulpur | Tilak Nagar and Rasulpur | The gali number first; the name is also spelt Rasoolpur |
| Asafabad | Asafabad and Madina Colony | A crossing on the highway side; ask the tutor to message when setting out |
| Madina Colony | Asafabad and Madina Colony | Block or gali and house number, the first thing a tutor asks for |
The north and west of the city have zone pages too: Jalesar Road and Kotla Road and Suhag Nagar and Agra Road. Every locality is on the Firozabad home tutors page, and the Firozabad home tuition guide covers timing zone by zone. If no Sanskrit specialist lives nearby, mix one home visit with one online class a week; see online tuition in Firozabad. Nearby cities: Agra and Aligarh.

In the 2026-27 syllabus files, Firozabad district reads Muktidoot in Class 10 Hindi and Tyagpathi in Class 12 Hindi and General Hindi. The board sets different titles for different districts, and Aligarh reads other poems in both classes. Confirm the title with the school before buying a guidebook.
The 70 written marks of UP Board Class 10 Hindi split into a 20-mark multiple-choice section and a 50-mark descriptive section. Prose carries 16 marks, poetry 22, Sanskrit 14, and the letter, grammar and essay 18 together. The other 30 marks are internal assessment earned at school.
A Class 10 student earns the 30 internal Hindi marks in three parts of 10. There is an oral expression test in August, a creative writing test in December, and four unit tests across July to December whose total is scaled to 10. Regular speaking practice at home helps the oral part most.
Yes, UP Board Class 12 General Hindi is one 100-mark paper with no internal marks, and a student needs 33 to pass. It covers literature history, set prose and poetry, a story, the khand kavya, Sanskrit, poetic devices, grammar, an unseen passage, a letter and an essay.
Sanskrit carries 14 marks in UP Board Class 10 Hindi and 14 in Class 12 General Hindi. Students translate set prose and verse into Hindi with reference, and Class 10 adds a shloka from memory and two short answers in Sanskrit. Ask for a tutor who teaches Sanskrit confidently if this part is weak.
Both UP Board Class 12 Hindi papers carry 100 marks with 33 to pass. Hindi, subject 101, is the fuller literature course, with more metres and figures of speech, Sanskrit grammar and two answers in Sanskrit. General Hindi, subject 102, tests Hindi grammar, idioms and an unseen passage instead. Check with the school which one your child takes.
Many UP Board Class 12 Hindi answers carry an 80-word limit in the syllabus file. That covers writer and poet introductions, story questions and khand kavya questions. A tutor should train short, complete answers that make every point inside the limit, because rambling answers waste time on a long paper.
A Madina Colony or Rasulpur family in Firozabad can ask for a home tutor who teaches both Hindi and Sanskrit. Give the block or gali and house number. If no specialist lives close, one home visit plus one online class a week keeps the plan steady.
