Home Tuition Fees in Vijayawada (2026): Class 10 to Intermediate

By NXTutors Academic Team 9 min read

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor names their own fee, and you see it before the free demo class. The same band applies whether the lessons take place in a flat off Bandar Road in Labbipet, a colony house in Machavaram, an old-city home in One Town or a villa community out in Tadigadapa.

Knowing the band is the easy part. The harder part is planning a whole year around it, because the hours a child needs change sharply between Class 10 and the Intermediate years. This guide sets out typical weekly hours stage by stage, shows how to compare quotes written in different ways, lists what to agree in writing, and marks the local weeks worth planning around.

How do the hours change from Class 6 to the Intermediate years?

Most of what a family spends follows the number of hours, not small differences between tutors' rates. Hours tend to climb in two steps: once in Class 9, when the Class 10 syllabus starts to take shape, and again in the two Intermediate years, when subjects deepen and many students add entrance preparation. The table shows one sample plan at each stage, in hours a week.

StageSample planHours a weekWhat the hours are for
Classes 6–8One subject, two one-hour classes2Homework support and closing gaps
Class 9Maths and science, two hours each4Building the base for the Class 10 syllabus
Class 10Maths and science together5Full syllabus, then past papers
Intermediate first year or Class 11Two science subjects, two hours each4New concepts at greater depth
Intermediate second year or Class 12 with JEE or NEET workOne subject, intensive6Board revision and entrance practice

The plans are illustrations; the tutor may suggest more or fewer hours after the demo. Senior science and entrance practice usually sit toward the upper end of the band, and a JEE Advanced specialist may quote above it. For the factors behind each tutor's fee, see the NXTutors pricing guide.

Why treat the Intermediate years as one budget

Intermediate is a two-year course, and the second year builds on the first. Budgeting only for the second year often means first-year gaps eat the hours meant for revision. Two habits help:

  • Price both years together. Set a steady weekly load for the first year, then add hours in the second.
  • Keep entrance work in its own line. If your child is preparing for JEE or NEET alongside the course, note those hours separately.

Does the board change what a tutor in Vijayawada charges?

Rarely on its own. Children in the city study under the Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh (BSEAP) up to Class 10, and many continue with the Board of Intermediate Education, AP (BIEAP) for the two Intermediate years. Others study under CBSE or the CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and a smaller number need IB or IGCSE support. The board matters more for who you shortlist than for what you pay:

  • State board: ask which BSEAP or Intermediate classes the tutor has taught recently, and whether they explain in English, Telugu or a mix that suits your child's medium of study. The AP board tutor page for Vijayawada explains how to request one.
  • Moving from a state-board Class 10 to CBSE for Classes 11–12, or the other way: budget a few extra hours at the start of the new course to cover the change in textbooks and style of questions.
  • CBSE, ICSE and ISC: ask how recently the tutor taught your child's class under that board; see the CBSE and ICSE pages.
  • IB and IGCSE: expect quotes toward the upper end, and more for IB HL. An online tutor is often the practical route when no specialist lives within reach.

Hourly, per class or monthly: how do we compare quotes?

Your shortlist shows each tutor's fee before the demo, but the same money is sometimes described in different ways once lessons begin. Bring every quote back to an hourly figure.

How the fee is describedWhat to askHow to read it
Per hourIs a longer class charged pro rata?Already comparable; multiply by the weekly hours
Per classHow long is each class?Divide the class fee by its length in hours
Per monthHow many classes, of what length, in a month?Divide the monthly figure by the total hours
For a block or a termHow many hours, and what happens to a missed class?Divide by the hours, and agree the make-up rule in writing

What to agree in writing

  • The unit and the length. Whether the fee is per hour, per class or per month, and how long each class runs.
  • Missed classes. How much notice each side gives, and when a lost class is made up.
  • Extra classes before exams. Whether they are charged at the usual rate.
  • A review point. The next unit test, when you decide whether to keep, trim or stop the hours.

Does your part of Vijayawada change the cost?

Not the band. The locality changes how many tutors can reach your home at a fixed weekly time. Vijayawada has no metro yet; a network is planned but nothing is running, so tutors come by two-wheeler, auto, city bus or, from the outer side, by train to one of the satellite stations.

ZoneWhat a tutor visit looks likeTiming to plan aroundLocalities
Central VijayawadaLanes behind shopping streets and apartment buildings; a two-wheeler beats a carMarket and station crowds through the day and eveningGovernorpet, Labbipet, Moghalrajpuram
Benz Circle & PatamataMany flats with gate sign-in; some colony housesOffice hours at the junction where the two highways meetBenz Circle, Patamata, Currency Nagar
Eluru Road & NorthMany independent houses with doorstep arrivalEluru Road at office hours; the February festival at GunadalaGunadala, Machavaram, Ajit Singh Nagar
One Town & WestOld-city houses in narrow lanes; newer flats and plots towards the highwayMarket rush in the old city; highway traffic near Bhavanipuram and GollapudiOne Town, Bhavanipuram, Gollapudi
Kanuru & PorankiApartments, villa communities and plots, often with a gated entranceBandar Road in the evening; roads near teaching institutions when classes changeKanuru, Poranki, Penamaluru

Two budget points follow. On the outer edge of the Bandar Road belt and past Gollapudi, fewer tutors may offer a regular home slot, so an online tutor for a specialist subject widens the choice without moving the band. And a paid hour that starts late at a busy junction is still a paid hour, so a tutor from your own zone often gives better value. The Vijayawada home tuition guide covers every locality.

Which weeks of the Vijayawada year need room in the plan?

  • The months before the public exams. Class 10 and the Intermediate years end with board exams, and most families add hours in the run-up. Agree in advance whether extra classes are charged at the usual hourly rate.
  • Navaratri near the hill temple. Roads around the Kanaka Durga temple above the Krishna, close to Vidyadharapuram and the old city, become very crowded during the festival season. Moving a few classes online keeps the plan on track without changing the fee.
  • The Gunadala festival in February. The annual festival at the shrine on Gunadala hill draws very large crowds, so families near Gunadala and Eluru Road may reschedule or switch to online classes for those days.

One tutor for two subjects, or two tutors?

In the middle classes, one tutor for both maths and science keeps the timetable simple. From the Intermediate years, subjects usually need separate specialists. Ask each matched tutor which subjects they teach at your child's level, and compare the two plans using the hourly figures above.

How NXTutors can help

Tell us your child's class, board and subject, and your locality in Vijayawada. NXTutors puts forward two or three matched tutors, starting with those nearest to you, then your zone, then the rest of the city and online. You see each fee before the demo, the first class with each tutor is a free demo class, and switching tutor later costs nothing.

Browse maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English tutors, or the JEE and NEET pages for entrance preparation. Every locality is listed on the Vijayawada city page. Tutors who live in the city can find requests on tuition jobs in Vijayawada.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a home tutor cost in Vijayawada?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own rate, and NXTutors shows it to you before the free demo.

Is a BSEAP or Intermediate tutor cheaper than a CBSE tutor?

There is no fixed rule. The class, the subject and the tutor's experience at that level shape most quotes, and every tutor chooses their own fee. The board changes the questions you ask instead: recent state-board teaching, the medium of explanation, and familiarity with the Intermediate course your child is taking.

How should we budget for the two Intermediate years?

Plan both years together. Set a steady weekly load in the first year, add hours in the second year for revision, and keep any JEE or NEET practice as a separate line. Agree the weekly hours with the tutor in writing and review them after each exam.

Does living in Kanuru or Gollapudi make tuition more expensive?

No. The fee band is the same across the city. On the outer sides, fewer tutors may be free for a regular home slot at your preferred time, so the shortlist can be shorter. Adding an online tutor for one specialist subject widens the choice without moving the band.

Do we pay anything before choosing a tutor?

No. You receive two or three matched tutors with their fees already visible, and the first class with each one is a free demo. Payment begins only once you choose a tutor and fix a weekly slot, and switching to a different tutor later carries no charge.
