Tutoring in Imphal: what to know
Tuition work in Imphal is organised into three zones. Uripok, Thangmeiband & Lamphel is the western side of Imphal West, with Langol and the district offices at Lamphelpat; Sagolband, Keishampat & Singjamei runs from Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar, the city's trading centre, south through Sagolband, Keishampat and Kwakeithel to Singjamei; and Wangkhei, Khurai & Porompat lies across the river in Imphal East, with Chingmeirong and the district offices at Porompat. Most homes sit in close-set neighbourhoods called leikais, many sharing family names, so the working skill here is reading a leikai, a lane and a landmark. Most tutors get about by two-wheeler or auto.
Two state bodies set the school route in Manipur. The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur conducts the High School Leaving Certificate examination at Class 10 and publishes its results on its website. The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur covers Classes 11 and 12: its site carries the curriculum and syllabus for both classes, guidelines for internal assessment, new question paper designs, previous question papers, the academic calendar and Class 12 results. Other Imphal students follow CBSE. Teach from those official documents rather than forwarded copies, and state clearly on your profile which boards, classes and streams you take.
Over a school year in Imphal, home and online teaching tend to work side by side. Some families move a lesson online on days of heavy monsoon rain, and board-year students may ask for extra sessions as their examinations approach. Take a request from Keishampat: NXTutors draws up two or three names, looking first at tutors in Keishampat itself, next across the Sagolband, Keishampat & Singjamei zone, then wider Imphal, and online last. Parents read each fee before the free first demo and can later change tutor without paying. Because online learners may live anywhere in India, your work need not stop at the homes you can ride to.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
1
Sign up with a one-time code
Sign up from a phone. A one-time code confirms your number or email, and then you fill in subjects, classes, boards like BOSEM, COHSEM or CBSE, and the parts of Imphal you can travel to.
-
2
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Add a government photo ID next. Our team looks at it before any family sees you, and one ID can sit on only one tutor account. This proves identity only; it is not a police or background check.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
Once that review is through, families can see your boards, the leikais you cover anywhere from Uripok to Porompat, your choice of home, online or both, and your own fee.
-
4
A family nearby sends a request
Picture a parent in Sagolband or Wangkhei asking for help. NXTutors lists two or three tutors, looking at that locality first, then its zone, then wider Imphal, then online teachers.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
Your fee is visible to the family before they book. The opening class is a free demo in the student's home with a parent asked to be in, so you learn the lane, the child and the timing.
-
6
Teach at home, online or both
After the demo, you might keep home visits for nearby leikais, teach online learners from any part of India, or combine both, switching to a screen on days of heavy monsoon rain.
Boards you can teach in Imphal
Imphal tutors teach students of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, which conducts the High School Leaving Certificate examination at Class 10, and of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, which publishes the curriculum, syllabus, question paper designs, internal assessment guidelines and previous papers for Classes 11 and 12. Other families follow CBSE, working from NCERT books. Read patterns, notices and calendars only on each body's official website, and use the CBSE academic site for CBSE material. Your profile should say which boards, classes and streams you teach.
BOSEM
HSLC (Class 10, BOSEM); Classes 11–12 (COHSEM)
Two bodies share the state route. BOSEM conducts the High School Leaving Certificate examination at Class 10 and posts its results on bosem.in. COHSEM (cohsem.nic.in) publishes the curriculum and syllabus for Classes 11 and 12, internal assessment guidelines, new question paper designs, previous question papers and the academic calendar. Take patterns and dates only from those two official sites.
CBSE students in Imphal can live in any leikai, next door to a state-board family, so your area list matters more than the board. Build lessons on the NCERT textbooks, practise with the sample papers and marking schemes on the CBSE academic site, and keep Class 10 and Class 12 students on a steady weekly rhythm through the year.
