For years Assam's Class 10 examination was run by SEBA, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, and the higher secondary course in Classes 11 and 12 by AHSEC, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. The state has since brought the two together under a single state school education board, so notices may carry the new name. A state board student needs a tutor who works from the prescribed textbooks and knows the medium of instruction the school uses. Families also follow CBSE and CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and class and board are matched together for every request.
Home and online lessons both have a place. A request from Hatigaon goes first to tutors in Hatigaon, then the rest of the GS Road and Dispur zone, then the city, then online, and the family is shown two or three tutors with fees before a free first demo; switching later costs them nothing. Classes 1–12
CBSE students in Guwahati range from Zoo Road apartments to GS Road flats, and some combine the board with engineering or medical entrance preparation, often alongside a coaching batch. Build from NCERT and the sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, and keep your slot clear of the student's coaching timetable.
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
CISCE conducts the ICSE after Class 10 and the ISC after Class 12. Both reward complete written answers across a broad syllabus, and English literature texts are prescribed, so steady chapter-by-chapter revision matters. Online lessons can also bring ICSE literature specialists to Guwahati students; regulations are on cisce.org.
Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)
Families following the IB Diploma in Guwahati usually find their specialist online, since those tutors are spread across India. If you teach Maths AA or AI, Physics or Chemistry at SL or HL, offering online classes is how you reach them; guide internal assessment without writing it, and use the ibo.org guides.
IGCSE (Classes 9–10)

Guwahati railway station and the state bus terminal are in Paltan Bazaar, so tutors from across the city can arrive by train or bus, which makes this the easiest zone to reach. Many homes sit above or behind shop frontages, so a lane landmark and floor number matter, and the market streets are crowded through the working day. Early morning, later evening or weekend slots avoid the busiest hours, and families here may want a specialist from across the city.
Evening coaching batches fill the roads and students' calendars here, so a fixed weekday slot that does not clash with coaching is what keeps lessons regular. Lanes in Lachit Nagar and Chandmari are narrow for parking, and apartment buildings on Zoo Road often keep a visitor register. Ask where to park in the narrower lanes, and give Zoo Road guards your name before the demo.
Buses from every direction pass through Ganeshguri, widening the pool of tutors who can reach this zone, and most families live in apartment buildings with two- and three-bedroom flats. Government office hours around the capital complex and the evening rush on GS Road are the two windows to avoid. Ask for the building name, flat number and a guard's phone number, and note whether the home is a short walk off GS Road.
Most tutors arrive by city bus or auto along GS Road or the highway, with Narangi station an option for the Six Mile side. Large complexes in Basistha and Khanapara need the tower, flat and gate in advance, and lessons near Beltola Bazar are easier away from its twice-weekly market days. A specialist living far to the north can pair online classes with a nearby tutor's visits.
Kamakhya Junction in Maligaon and the bus depot at Adabari are the arrival points on the south bank, where apartment gates are common. North Guwahati, across the river and still being absorbed into the city, has spread-out houses and plots, so tutors who already live on the north bank are the practical choice. On the south bank, agree whether Kamakhya Junction or a bus to Adabari Tiniali is easier, and switch to online during Durga Puja in Maligaon.
