Tutoring in Surat: what to know
Surat has five zones on NXTutors, and the Tapi divides them. The western bank, Adajan, Pal, Palanpur, Rander and Jahangirpura, mixes mid-segment flats and ready societies with Rander's old lanes of family houses. South of the river, the old centre around Nanpura, Athwa and Ghod Dod Road keeps apartments, builder floors and older houses side by side, while Piplod, City Light, Vesu and Dumas Road are newer gated complexes. The southern belt of Udhna, Althan and Pandesara sits beside industrial estates, and north and east of the river, Katargam and Varachha are the diamond side of the city, mostly lower-priced flats with newer societies further out.
Surat's metro is still being built, so tutors travel by road, rail or bus. Sitilink BRTS corridors run from Adajan Patiya and Pal RTO, along Gaurav Path to Piplod, from Udhana Darwaja to Sachin GIDC Naka, and from Katargam Darwaja towards Kosad and Sarthana. Surat railway station, Udhna Junction, Utran and Kosad add rail links, and autos or two-wheelers finish most trips. The Tapi bridges at office hours, industrial shift changes around Udhna and Pandesara, diamond-unit shifts in Katargam and Varachha, and evening shopping on Ghod Dod Road and VIP Road are the timing points to plan around.
Many Surat students study under GSEB, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, in Gujarati, English or another medium, so board and medium are matched together, and a Gujarati-medium GSEB student and an IGCSE candidate need different teachers. CBSE, ICSE and ISC are also followed, with the IB and Cambridge IGCSE for a smaller group. Home tuition works well when you stay on your own bank of the river. On the northern edge, in Amroli and Mota Varachha, families can pair a nearby tutor for regular subjects with an online specialist for senior papers, which suits tutors who teach both ways.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
1
Sign up with a one-time code
Start with a one-time code on your phone or email, then add subjects, classes and boards, GSEB in Gujarati or English included, and the Surat zones on your side of the Tapi.
-
2
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Upload a government photo ID; the team checks it before you get the Verified badge. An ID number can belong to only one tutor account, and the check is about identity alone.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
After approval, your profile carries the Verified badge, showing your boards and medium, your zones from Rander to Sarthana, your free hours and your fee.
-
4
A family nearby sends a request
A family in Athwa or Udhna sends a request. NXTutors suggests two or three tutors: neighbours first, then tutors who travel to that area, then the zone, the city and online.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
The family sees your fee before they book. Your first class is a free demo at their home where we ask a parent to be present, so you can judge the level and the bridge crossing.

Teach at home, online or both
Teach at homes on your bank, online for students across Gujarat and India, or both, perhaps a weekend visit to Vesu with online classes during the week.
Boards you can teach in Surat
Surat tutors teach GSEB in Gujarati, English or another medium, as well as CBSE, ICSE and ISC, the IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE. GSEB sets the SSC at the end of Standard 10 and separate HSC Science and HSC General exams at the end of Standard 12; its board-published paper designs build each Standard 10 paper with a compulsory section of one-mark objective items. Read paper designs, question banks and results on gseb.org and the board's e-service site, GUJCET notices from the board, CBSE material on cbseacademic.nic.in and CISCE documents on cisce.org.
GSEB
SSC (Standard 10); HSC General and Science streams (Standard 12)
GSEB conducts Surat's Standard 10 and Standard 12 public examinations, and many students study under it in Gujarati, English or another medium. The board says its schools teach Standard 12 physics, chemistry, biology and maths from NCERT textbooks, and GUJCET, its entrance test, is offered in Gujarati, English and Hindi. Read gseb.org first.
Surat's CBSE students live on both banks of the Tapi, from Adajan to Varachha. Ground lessons in NCERT and grade practice against the marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in. The CBSE year opens in April while GSEB and other schools publish their own calendars, so plan revision around each school's dates.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
The CISCE council sets ICSE for Class 10 and ISC for Class 12. Both expect long, organised answers across a wide syllabus, with English literature and project work, so Surat tutors for these boards build revision cycles that revisit early chapters. Specimen papers are on cisce.org.
IB
Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)
IB Diploma results combine final papers with internal assessment, and its Mathematics comes as AA or AI, each at Standard or Higher Level. Surat tutors who coach the IA without writing it, and know the subject guide from ibo.org, can teach Piplod or Vesu students at home and others online.
For Cambridge IGCSE, command words, the correct tier and marked past papers carry most of the weight. A Gujarati-medium GSEB student and an IGCSE candidate need different teachers, so list IGCSE only if you know it well, and check whether the school follows Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel.
