Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Hyderabad, English tends to get attention at two moments: in the Class 10 year, when marks on writing and literature start to matter, and too late in the Intermediate years, when a student has spent every spare hour on MPC or BiPC subjects and English quietly drags the total down. Families with children in IB or IGCSE schools add a third need: students who must analyse texts rather than learn answers. This page sets out how the Telangana state board, CBSE, ICSE, ISC and the international boards examine English, and how to set up regular lessons with a tutor who can reach you. The national English home tutor guide goes deeper into each board.
| Board | What the student faces | The tutor you want |
|---|---|---|
| Telangana SSC and Intermediate | State textbooks and a state-set English paper in Class 10 and through the two Intermediate years | Someone who teaches from the state books and uses the board's past papers |
| CBSE Class 10 | 80 board marks split reading 20, writing with grammar 20 and literature 40, plus 20 internal marks | One who drills the formal letter and the analytical paragraph |
| CBSE Classes 11 and 12 | English Core; by Class 12, grammar drops out and literature is worth 40 of 80 | One who can build long literature answers from Flamingo and Vistas |
| ICSE | Separate language and literature papers, two hours and 80 marks each, with internal marks for listening and speaking | A teacher of sustained, timed composition |
| ISC | Two three-hour papers of 80, each with 20 project marks; a 400 to 450 word composition | One comfortable with proposals and directed writing |
| IGCSE and IB | Cambridge 0500 or 0510; IB Language A with Paper 1, Paper 2 and an individual oral | A specialist in unseen-text analysis |
The state's Board of Secondary Education conducts the SSC examination at the end of Class 10, and the two-year Intermediate course follows under the Board of Intermediate Education, taken in groups such as MPC and BiPC. Students in every group still have English to study. We describe these papers only generally; for the current scheme, rely on each board's official website.
A common pattern is simple: English gets squeezed. An Intermediate student may spend evenings on physics, chemistry and entrance practice, and leave English to the week before the exam. A tutor does not need many hours to fix this. Once a week is usually enough to work through the prescribed lessons, practise the writing tasks the state paper sets, and correct the same few grammar errors before they cost marks again. Ask any tutor you consider whether they have taught from the current state textbooks, and whether they can teach in the student's comfort language when a point needs explaining.
Class 10 is where a tutor most visibly moves marks. For CBSE, the reading section has two unseen passages, literature is half the paper, and the writing tasks are a formal letter and an analytical paragraph based on a chart or graph. Students who read the chapters but write loose, over-long answers lose marks they can recover in a few weeks of practice.
ICSE is heavier. Paper 1 asks for a composition of 300 to 350 words, a letter, a notice with a matching e-mail, an unseen passage of about 500 words with a summary, and a grammar question; Paper 2 tests the prescribed play, stories and poems. Listening and speaking carry 10 marks each in the language internal assessment. Our notes on ICSE Class 10 English papers walk through each question. For either board, start before the half-yearly exams, not after them.
IB and Cambridge IGCSE students ask something different of a tutor. For IGCSE, the school chooses between First Language English 0500, with a reading paper worth half the grade and either a writing paper or coursework for the rest, and English as a Second Language 0510, where reading and writing carry 70% and listening 30%. Speaking is reported separately on 0510 and counted in the grade on 0511. For IB Language A: Language and Literature, students analyse unseen non-literary texts, write a comparative essay on two works and give a 15-minute individual oral; HL adds an essay of 1,200 to 1,500 words.
A tutor can sharpen analysis and give feedback on plans, but coursework must remain the student's. Online lessons widen the pool of specialists considerably.
Hyderabad schools do not share one calendar: the CBSE session opens in April, while state board schools usually reopen in June. That changes when English help should begin.
Some parents ask for English help because a child who writes well will not speak up in class, freezes in an oral assessment or is nervous about interviews. That is a separate goal and needs a different lesson: more conversation, short prepared talks, reading aloud, and gentle correction afterwards rather than mid-sentence. Tell us if this is the aim so we match accordingly. Our spoken English guide for students has practical ideas.
Hyderabad's metro, MMTS trains and highways decide which tutors can keep a weekly slot. Six of the twelve zones below show an example neighbourhood.
| Zone | Nearest rail link | Timing tip |
|---|---|---|
| Gachibowli, Kondapur and Madhapur (e.g. Nanakramguda) | Blue Line to HITEC City or Raidurg, then auto or cab | End before offices empty onto the highway |
| Kukatpally, Miyapur and Nizampet (e.g. Bachupally) | Red Line to Miyapur, then auto along the Bachupally road | Start ahead of the Miyapur X Roads rush |
| Manikonda, Narsingi and Kokapet | None in the zone; Raidurg is nearest | Mix a home lesson with an online one |
| Chandanagar, Lingampally and Tellapur | MMTS to Chandanagar, Hafizpet or Lingampalli | Weekends suit Tellapur |
| Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and Somajiguda (e.g. Jubilee Hills) | Jubilee Hills Check Post or Road No. 5 on the Blue Line | Give road and house number together |
| Ameerpet, Begumpet and Punjagutta | Ameerpet, where the Red and Blue Lines meet | Avoid the crowded evening main road |
| Khairatabad, Himayatnagar and Abids | Red and Green Line stations, plus MMTS | Weekday afternoons beat market evenings |
| Secunderabad, Marredpally and Tarnaka (e.g. Secunderabad) | Parade Ground for both Blue and Green Lines; Secunderabad for MMTS | Step around office hours near the station |
| Sainikpuri, Alwal and Trimulgherry | MMTS on the Bolarum route; no metro | Prefer tutors from the northern colonies |
| Uppal, Habsiguda and Nacharam | Blue Line at Nagole, Uppal, Stadium or Habsiguda | Begin after the Uppal X Roads rush |
| Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar and Vanasthalipuram (e.g. Vanasthalipuram) | Red Line to LB Nagar, then an auto along the highway | Leave time for the last leg |
| Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki and Attapur (e.g. Attapur) | No metro; bus or two-wheeler | Share the expressway pillar number |
Every zone and area page is on our Hyderabad home tuition page.
For young readers, sit-beside-the-child home lessons are hard to beat. From about Class 3 upwards, English works well online as long as writing reaches the tutor, through a shared document or photos of the notebook, and comes back marked before the next class. In zones without a metro, such as Manikonda or Mehdipatnam, or in fast growing areas like Tellapur, one home and one online session each week keeps momentum when travel is long.
If the answers disappoint, tell us and we set up a demo with the next tutor on your list. Our demo class checklist adds practical points.

Yes. Tell us the year, the group (MPC, BiPC or another) and the medium, and we look for tutors who teach from the current state textbooks and use the board's past papers. One steady session a week usually keeps English from slipping while the student concentrates on group subjects and entrance preparation.
ICSE sets two papers, English Language and Literature in English, each two hours and 80 marks with 20 internal marks. The language paper includes a 300 to 350 word composition, a letter, a notice with an e-mail, a long unseen passage with a summary, and grammar. CBSE sets one 80-mark paper.
The school decides. First Language English 0500 is for students whose first language is English and rewards analysis of how writers use language. English as a Second Language 0510 tests reading, writing and listening, with speaking reported separately. Confirm the code before a tutor starts, because preparation differs sharply.
Usually. Tutors can take the Blue Line to HITEC City or Raidurg and finish by auto or cab. Register them with your tower's visitor app or security desk before the demo, and choose a slot that ends before office traffic builds on the highway and near the Outer Ring Road junctions.
Yes, but say so when you ask, because it is a different goal from board marks. A good speaking lesson uses conversation, short prepared talks and reading aloud, with corrections given afterwards rather than mid-sentence. Some families split the week, with one session for speaking and one for written English.
From about Class 3 upwards, generally yes, provided writing is shared and marked before the next session. Online also opens up IB, IGCSE and ISC specialists from anywhere in India. For young children learning to read, and for students who lose focus on screen, home lessons usually work better.
