What home tuition costs in Hyderabad

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

IGCSE tutors in Hyderabad: five questions that decide the right tutor

According to the Hyderabad city hub, Cambridge IGCSE is taught in the city's international schools, alongside the IB, while other families follow the Telangana state board, CBSE or CISCE. IGCSE tutoring goes wrong most often for a simple reason: the tutor is right for "IGCSE" in general but wrong for your child's exact course. This page works through the five questions that settle the match, explains the paper structures, sets out the Grade 9 and 10 stages, shows how tutors travel to each of Hyderabad's twelve zones and gives a demo checklist. It was written by Ajay Vatsyayan, who teaches IB, IGCSE and ISC maths with NXTutors.

Where IGCSE fits in Hyderabad

We do not know how many Hyderabad students take IGCSE and we will not guess. Our zone notes for Gachibowli, Kondapur and Madhapur, for Manikonda, Narsingi and Kokapet, and for Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills all mention matching students for IGCSE, and the Gachibowli notes point out that, for IGCSE sciences, an online tutor from elsewhere in India widens the choice considerably. In short: tutors for the common codes can usually be found nearby, while rarer combinations may need a hybrid plan. Tell us at the outset if your child's school mixes Cambridge and Edexcel across subjects, since one tutor may then need to know both sets of papers.

IGCSE compared with the SSC route

The Telangana SSC is one examination at the end of Class 10 set by the state's Board of Secondary Education, followed by the Intermediate course. IGCSE is a basket of separate qualifications: each subject has its own code, papers and grade, and Cambridge plans each one around roughly 130 guided learning hours. Mark schemes reward precise key terms and command words such as "describe", "explain" and "suggest". A student joining from the state board or CBSE usually knows much of the content and loses marks on question style, calculator technique and, in Cambridge sciences, the practical paper.

Five questions to answer before choosing a tutor

  1. Which awarding body? Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and sometimes both in one school, subject by subject.
  2. Which syllabus code? For example 0580 maths or 4PH1 physics. The school office can confirm it from the entry.
  3. Which tier? Core or Extended for Cambridge, Foundation or Higher for Edexcel maths; it caps the grades available.
  4. Which series? Cambridge runs June and November, plus March in India; Edexcel Maths A runs January and June.
  5. What comes after? The IB Diploma, A Level, or a move to CBSE, ISC or the state's Intermediate for Class 11 each changes what to emphasise.

Maths: 0580 and 4MA1

How the two maths courses are examined
Cambridge 0580Edexcel 4MA1
Tiers and gradesCore (Papers 1 and 3, C to G) or Extended (Papers 2 and 4, A* to E)Foundation (5 to 1) or Higher (9 to 4)
CalculatorOne paper without; a scientific calculator, not a graphical one, on the otherPermitted on both papers
Going furtherAdditional Mathematics 0606Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1

A Core entry rules out an A, so a borderline student's Grade 9 and early Grade 10 work should aim at showing the school clear Extended-level performance before tiers are set. For Cambridge, that means drilling the non-calculator paper by hand; for Edexcel, the longer multi-step algebra. Our IGCSE maths tutor page covers both.

Sciences: three Cambridge papers, two Edexcel

Cambridge Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 share a structure. Every candidate sits a 40-question multiple-choice paper of 45 minutes (30% of the grade), a theory paper of 80 marks in 1 hour 15 minutes (50%), and a 40-mark practical paper (20%), either a practical test or the alternative to practical, as the school decides. Core reaches C to G; Extended adds Supplement content and reaches A* to G. Edexcel's 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 are not tiered and have two written papers with practical skills tested inside them, which rewards clear extended answers. For the alternative-to-practical paper, a tutor should rehearse planning a method, building a results table with units, plotting a graph and commenting on reliability, since students who never handle real apparatus often find this paper the hardest.

Grades 9 and 10 in stages

Where tutoring time should go
WhenFocusSign it is working
Start of Grade 9Command words and calculator disciplineAnswers use the question's verb correctly
Rest of Grade 9Past questions topic by topic, alongside the school schemeFewer repeated errors in the log
Grade 10 before mocksFinishing content; evidence for the higher tierTier confirmed at the level hoped for
After mocksFull timed papers marked with the official schemeLost marks shrinking paper by paper

A March sitting in India leaves less time after mocks than June. Work backwards from the series your child is entered for.

A week of IGCSE tuition that works

Most students need one or two sessions a week per subject, each with the same three ingredients. A quick look at the error log from last time, so mistakes are fixed by cause rather than repeated. One topic, taught with examples in exam style, including the exact wording mark schemes credit. Then a handful of past-paper questions under time, marked together so the student can see where each mark sits. Between sessions, homework should be short: ten multiple-choice questions, one structured question, or one non-calculator set. Parents should hear briefly what was covered and what is next; if the tutor cannot say, the plan is missing.

After Grade 10: preparing for the next board

The route after IGCSE should shape the last months. A student heading to the IB Diploma gains from Extended maths and early comfort with a graphic calculator. A student moving to CBSE or ISC for Class 11 needs quick hand calculation, trigonometry in radians and the fully written-out working Indian boards expect. A student moving to the state's Intermediate course should work through the state textbooks for the chosen group before term starts, and confirm details on the board's website. In each case, a few weeks of bridging work in the summer saves a hard first term.

Online lessons, which the city hub notes reach tutors across India, suit IGCSE well once a student is past the first term, provided the tutor sees handwritten working live. See every area on the Hyderabad home tuition page and timing tips in the east and south Hyderabad guide.

IGCSE demo checklist

  1. Name the code and tier and listen for the paper structure, without notes.
  2. Ask the tutor to mark a past-paper answer with the official scheme and say which words earned the marks.
  3. Check non-calculator speed work for Cambridge maths, or long algebra for Edexcel.
  4. For Cambridge sciences, ask how they prepare the practical test versus the alternative paper.
  5. Ask how they would split the months before your series.
  6. Ask what they would emphasise for your child's route after Grade 10.

You choose from two or three tutors, see their fees ahead of the demo and may switch later at no cost. Tutors who register go through an ID check, and the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID.

Fees and getting started

IGCSE Tutor in Hyderabad (Cambridge & Edexcel): common questions

How do I find a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE tutor in Hyderabad?

To find a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE tutor in Hyderabad, tell us the awarding body, syllabus code, tier, exam series, grade, colony and free hours. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

What does an IGCSE home tutor charge per hour in Hyderabad?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For IGCSE in Hyderabad, the subject, the tier, the weeks left before the series and the tutor's travel to your colony decide the fee, which each tutor sets and you see before the demo.

Why does the IGCSE syllabus code matter when choosing a Hyderabad tutor?

The IGCSE syllabus code matters for a Hyderabad tutor because it fixes the papers your child sits. Cambridge 0580 maths has a non-calculator paper and Core or Extended tiers; Edexcel 4MA1 allows a calculator throughout. Cambridge sciences include a practical paper, while Edexcel sciences test practical skills inside two written papers.

Can a Hyderabad student on Core IGCSE maths get an A grade?

No, a Hyderabad student entered for Core IGCSE maths on Cambridge 0580 can reach only grades C to G. Only Extended, with Papers 2 and 4, reaches A* to E. Schools usually set tiers in Grade 10 from test results, so a borderline student should show Extended-level work well before then.

How does IGCSE differ from the Telangana SSC for a Hyderabad family?

For a Hyderabad family, IGCSE is a basket of separate qualifications, while the Telangana SSC is one examination at the end of Class 10. Each IGCSE subject has its own code, papers and grade, planned around roughly 130 guided learning hours. Students joining from the state board usually lose marks on question style, not content.

What is the IGCSE alternative to practical paper for Hyderabad science students?

For Hyderabad science students on Cambridge physics, chemistry or biology, the alternative to practical is a written paper replacing the lab test, worth 40 marks and 20% of the grade. It tests planning a method, tables with units, graphs and judging reliability. Students who rarely handle real apparatus often find it the hardest paper.

Which Hyderabad areas are hardest for an IGCSE tutor to reach?

In Hyderabad, areas with no rail inside them, such as Manikonda, Narsingi, Kokapet and Tellapur, and the Mehdipatnam and Attapur side, are hardest for an IGCSE tutor to reach. We look first for tutors living nearby. When the right specialist lives far away, weekend home lessons with a weekday online session keep things steady.

How should a Hyderabad IGCSE student prepare for Class 11 in CBSE or ISC?

A Hyderabad IGCSE student moving to CBSE or ISC for Class 11 should build hand-calculation speed, learn trigonometry in radians and practise full written working. A few weeks of bridging over the summer, using the new board's textbooks, makes the first term much easier. For the state Intermediate course, check details on the board's website.

Is online IGCSE tuition a good idea for a Hyderabad student?

Online IGCSE tuition suits a Hyderabad student well once they are past the first term, provided the tutor sees handwritten working live. It widens the choice for senior sciences, where an online tutor from elsewhere in India often helps. Home lessons remain useful early on, when command words and calculator discipline are being set.

How many IGCSE tuition sessions a week does a Hyderabad student need?

Most Hyderabad IGCSE students need one or two tuition sessions a week per subject. Each should open with the error log from last time, teach one topic in exam style, then set a few timed past-paper questions marked together. Homework stays short: ten multiple-choice questions, one structured question or one non-calculator set.
