Science home tutor in Hyderabad, Classes 6 to 10: the right textbook now, firm ground for later

In Hyderabad, science in the middle-school years often carries a second job. Many families already have Intermediate, JEE or NEET in mind, and want Classes 8 to 10 to leave their child with clean concepts rather than a pile of memorised answers. A science tutor has to serve both aims: teach from the CBSE, ICSE or Telangana state textbook your child actually uses, win the marks on offer this year, and build the precise habits that later exams depend on. NXTutors shortlists two or three science tutors who fit your board and can reach your neighbourhood after school. Each fee is listed before any meeting, and the first lesson is a free demo.

Which science books should the tutor teach from, board by board?

The CBSE and ICSE sections of this guide are written by Aaditya Kashyap, who teaches CBSE and ICSE science. The first thing a new tutor should ask for is the book on your child's desk, because the three boards Hyderabad families use do not share one:

Science in Classes 6 to 10 by board in Hyderabad: the books in use and how Class 10 is examined
BoardClasses 6 to 8Class 9Class 10 assessment
CBSENCERT; the Curiosity books in Classes 6 and 7 are built around activitiesNCERT's new Exploration bookOne 80-mark science paper, with 20 internal marks
ICSE (CISCE)Textbooks each school chooses within the CISCE syllabusPhysics, chemistry and biology taught as separate subjectsThree papers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each with its own internal assessment
Telangana state boardThe state's own textbooksThe state's own textbooksThe SSC examination, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Telangana; its official site carries the current scheme

For SSC students we look for tutors who teach from the state books and the board's own model papers; we do not restate the state pattern here. The national science home tutor page explains our approach everywhere, and the Class 8 science tutor page covers the middle years.

CBSE Class 10 science: which units hold the 80 board marks?

CBSE Class 10 science, 2026-27: board marks by unit and the slip a tutor most often has to fix
UnitMarksWhere marks usually slip
Chemical Substances25Unbalanced equations, missing state symbols when asked
World of Living25Everyday words where the exact term is needed; unlabelled diagrams
Effects of Current13Units dropped halfway through a circuit numerical
Natural Phenomena12Ray diagrams without arrows, or virtual rays drawn solid
Our Environment5Short answers padded instead of pointed

Split by strand, biology takes 30 marks and physics and chemistry 25 each. The three-hour paper in the 2026-27 sample has 39 questions: twenty of one mark, assertion–reason included; six of two; seven of three; three case- or source-based questions of four; and three long answers of five. Half the marks test knowledge and understanding, 30% application, and 20% analysis and evaluation. The school's 20 marks are four parts of 5: periodic assessment, multiple assessment, portfolio, and subject enrichment through practical work. Our CBSE Class 10 science notes work through each chapter, and the Class 10 science tutor page plans the board year.

Which Class 10 topics stay with the school, and how many board exams are there?

For 2026-27, three areas are assessed formatively by the school rather than in the board paper: periodic classification of elements; evolution; and the electric motor, electromagnetic induction and the generator. They still feed internal marks and return in Class 11 or first-year Intermediate, so they are taught properly, just not drilled in board-revision weeks. The curriculum also lists 14 experiments that board questions draw on, which makes the practical file useful revision.

Every CBSE Class 10 student sits the main exam; an optional second exam lets eligible students improve up to three subjects, science included. The 2027 dates are not published, so follow cbse.gov.in and plan around the main exam.

What is different about Class 9 science this session?

CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum follows Exploration, NCERT's new Class 9 book. The yearly exam stays at 80 with 20 internal, across four units: Matter: its nature and behaviour 27; World of living 25; Motion, force, work and sound 23; and Earth as a system 5. Notes passed down from older cousins follow the old book, so a tutor should plan from the new chapters. In the lab, students make onion-peel and cheek-cell slides, separate mixtures and plot motion graphs, and a tutor who explains why each set-up works makes the matching theory questions easier. The Class 9 science tutor page goes further.

How can Classes 8 to 10 prepare a child for NEET or JEE without rushing?

Parents here often ask whether entrance preparation should start early. The exam facts help frame the answer. NEET (UG) 2026, conducted by NTA, was a single pen-and-paper exam of three hours with 180 multiple-choice questions: 45 in physics, 45 in chemistry and 90 in biology, for 720 marks, scored +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. JEE (Main) 2026 Paper 1 gave physics and chemistry 25 questions each out of 75. Both exams test the Class 11 and 12 syllabus, not middle-school science, and NTA publishes the syllabus afresh each year.

So the useful early work is not entrance problems but habits those exams punish when missing:

  • Reading the textbook line by line. NEET biology rewards precise NCERT knowledge; a child who learns in Class 9 to read every diagram and table is ahead.
  • Units and graphs without fuss. Physics and chemistry numericals in both exams fall apart on units, powers of ten and slopes.
  • Accuracy over guessing. With a mark lost for each wrong answer, careful elimination matters; school tests are a safe place to practise it.

School marks come first until Class 10 is done. Our guide to NEET preparation with coaching or a home tutor covers the senior years, and physics and chemistry tutors in Hyderabad take over from Class 11.

Which after-school slot works in your part of Hyderabad?

For children in Classes 6 to 10, the session usually falls between school and dinner, so a short, predictable journey counts for a lot. Six neighbourhoods show how differently it plays out; compare tutors by locality on our Hyderabad page.

The IT corridor and the old training hub

Madhapur has three Blue Line stations, Madhapur, Durgam Cheruvu and HITEC City, all opened in 2019, so tutors arrive by metro and a short auto ride. Gated towers ask visitors to sign in, street parking is tight, and a class straight after school beats the evening office traffic. Ameerpet is the Red and Blue Line interchange, so tutors from either line arrive without changing mode and walk into the colony lanes; houses are doorstep visits, apartment buildings keep a register.

North-west, along the Mumbai Highway

Nizampet is a suburb of colonies of small apartment blocks where a tutor usually goes straight to the door, with gated communities asking for an entry. Most tutors reach it by Red Line and then an auto or bus along Nizampet Road, which is crowded at school and office hours, so leave a buffer. Chandanagar has its own MMTS station on the Lingampalli line and Miyapur metro nearby; houses and builder floors off the highway are doorstep visits.

The north-east and the west

Sainikpuri began as a co-operative housing venture for retired army personnel, and many houses sit on large plots along numbered, tree-lined roads. The metro is further away, so most tutors come by road, with Ammuguda on the MMTS as the nearest train stop; wide roads make parking easy. Tolichowki is mostly apartment buildings with gate entries, linked by bus to Mehdipatnam and HITEC City; its crossroads crowd at office hours, so slots after the evening peak hold better.

How many science sessions a week does a child need?

  • Classes 6 and 7: one session is usually plenty, spent turning activities into correct sentences and labelled sketches.
  • Class 8: one or two, as numericals and word equations arrive and physics, chemistry and biology start to feel separate.
  • Class 9: two, because motion graphs, the structure of matter and the cell land in the same year.
  • Class 10: two, rising before pre-boards, with full timed papers from the second term.

Until the board year, one tutor for all three strands is normally enough, with a real advantage: the same person notices when a physics numerical is failing on arithmetic rather than physics. ICSE families sometimes bring in a specialist for the weakest of the three papers from Class 9.

What should you watch for during the free demo?

Ask for an ordinary lesson on the chapter your child is on, then notice whether the tutor insists on the exact term, on units carried through every line, on arrows on each ray, and on answers whose points match the marks. A good tutor also asks to see recent test papers before deciding what to teach. Our demo class checklist for parents lists more to look for. If the fit is wrong, we arrange a demo with another shortlisted tutor, and switching later is free.

What will a science home tutor in Hyderabad cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own rates; within Classes 6 to 10, board-year teaching tends to cost more than middle-school support, and the trip to your neighbourhood and the sessions per week also count. All fees are shown before the demo.

How do you get started?

Send the class and board, the strand that worries you, your locality and building, and the afternoons that suit your family. Science Home Tutor in Hyderabad: common questions

How much does a science home tutor charge per hour in Hyderabad?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Science tutors in Hyderabad set their own rates; within Classes 6 to 10, board-year teaching tends to cost more than middle-school support, and the trip and sessions per week also count.

How do I get a science home tutor for Classes 6 to 10 in Hyderabad?

To get a science home tutor for Classes 6 to 10 in Hyderabad, send the class, board, the strand that worries you, your locality and free afternoons. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

Do you have science tutors for the Telangana SSC in Hyderabad?

Yes, we match science tutors in Hyderabad for the Telangana SSC who teach from the state textbooks and use the board's own model papers. The Board of Secondary Education publishes its current SSC scheme on its official website, so the tutor should plan from that rather than a CBSE pattern or older notes.

How are CBSE Class 10 science marks split for Hyderabad students?

For Hyderabad CBSE Class 10 students, Chemical Substances and World of Living carry 25 of the 80 science marks each. Effects of Current carries 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5; by strand, biology has 30 and physics and chemistry 25 each. The school adds 20 internal marks.

Which CBSE Class 10 science topics are school-assessed only for Hyderabad students?

For Hyderabad CBSE Class 10 students in 2026-27, three science areas are assessed by the school, not in the board paper. They are periodic classification, evolution, and the electric motor with electromagnetic induction and the generator. These still count for internal marks and return in Class 11 or first-year Intermediate, so they should be learnt properly.

What changed in CBSE Class 9 science for Hyderabad students this year?

CBSE Class 9 science for Hyderabad students now follows NCERT's new Exploration book. The yearly exam stays at 80 marks plus 20 internal, over Matter at 27, World of living at 25, Motion, force, work and sound at 23, and Earth as a system at 5. Notes from older cousins follow the previous book.

Should NEET or JEE preparation start in Class 8 or 9 for a Hyderabad child?

A Hyderabad child in Class 8 or 9 is better served by habits than by entrance problems, because NEET and JEE test the Class 11 and 12 syllabus. Those habits are reading the textbook line by line, carrying units, reading graphs and answering accurately. School marks come first until Class 10 is done.

Do you have ICSE science tutors in Hyderabad?

Yes, we match ICSE science tutors in Hyderabad who teach from the school's chosen textbooks and CISCE specimen papers. ICSE Class 10 science is three papers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each with internal assessment. ICSE tutors are fewer than CBSE tutors, and some families add a specialist for the weakest paper from Class 9.

How many science tuition sessions a week does a Hyderabad child need?

Most Hyderabad children need one science session a week in Classes 6 and 7, one or two in Class 8, and two in Classes 9 and 10. Class 10 sessions rise before pre-boards, with full timed papers from the second term. Until the board year, one tutor for all three strands is normally enough.

Is home or online science tuition better for a Hyderabad middle-schooler?

Home science tuition usually suits a Hyderabad middle-schooler, since the session falls between school and dinner and a tutor beside them checks diagrams, arrows and units line by line. Where no suitable tutor can travel at that hour, online or mixed lessons work, provided the tutor sees the written working live.
