Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Nobody in Hyderabad frames a Class 9 report card, and that is exactly why the year slips. On the Telangana state board, CBSE and ICSE alike, Class 9 and Class 10 are taught as one two-year run, so the algebra, chemistry and physics that wobble now return in the board year with marks attached. Abhinandan Tiwary, who writes on Class 9 and 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and Aaditya Kashyap, who writes on CBSE and ICSE science, set out here how each board treats Class 9, the early warning signs, what to do after a change of board or city, how to fit a tutor around school and travel, and what to ask at the demo.
Three things change at once. The maths turns abstract, with polynomials, coordinate geometry and proofs replacing the arithmetic-heavy work of middle school. Science splits into three subjects that each expect their own kind of answer. And the school begins to assess the way the board will. On the state board, the reforms that the Directorate of Government Examinations links on its website were written for Classes 9 and 10 together, with 20 marks per subject for formative work in school beside an 80-mark written paper. A student who learns to keep notebooks, projects and written answers in order during Class 9 starts the SSC year with that habit already in place.
| Board | How Class 9 works | What a tutor should watch |
|---|---|---|
| Telangana state board | The first half of the run to the SSC; state syllabus with SCERT e-textbooks and workbooks; school-based formative assessment | Every textbook exercise in the student's medium, and tidy records for the school marks |
| CBSE | Classes 9 and 10 form one course; Class 9 is assessed by the school through internal assessment and an annual exam | Optional Advanced courses in maths and science; the third language; the new "Individual in Society" course from 2026-27 |
| ICSE | A two-year course; the Class 9 final exam is set by the school | Promotion needs 33% in five subjects including English and 75% attendance; subjects cannot change after 15 September |
| Cambridge IGCSE | Usually a two-year course for ages 14 to 16, examined at the end | Nothing is examined this year, so the gaps stay hidden until the mock exams |
| IB MYP Year 4 | Criterion-based school assessment | Planning towards the Year 5 personal project without doing it for the student |

One of these on its own may pass. Two or more by the first term's end is the moment to bring in a tutor, while there is still a full year before the board course begins in earnest. The national guides to Class 9 maths and Class 9 science list the chapters.
A student arriving from another state's board, or moving from CBSE to the state syllabus or the reverse, meets new textbooks, a different order of chapters and sometimes a different medium or second language. The first weeks should go on mapping the gap: which topics the old school covered, which the new one assumes, and which language paper the student now sits. A tutor who lays both syllabuses side by side can fill the holes in a few weeks instead of letting them surface in Class 10. Moving towards an international board? Our article on switching from CBSE to IB or IGCSE sets out what changes.
CBSE schools begin in April and state board schools usually reopen in June, so count from your own school's first month:
| When | Focus |
|---|---|
| Months 1–2 | A diagnostic test on Class 8 maths and science; fix fractions, integers and equations before new chapters pile up |
| Months 3–4 | Weekly chapter practice; a routine for notebooks and school projects |
| Months 5–7 | Half-yearly revision; written answers in full sentences with every step shown |
| Months 8–10 | Annual exam preparation; a list of chapters that will need a second pass in Class 10 |
| Summer break | A light start on the Class 10 maths and science syllabus |
An hour with a Class 9 tutor should leave a visible trace in the notebook, not just a feeling that the chapter "made sense". A pattern that works on every board:
For science, swap some practice time for diagrams, equations or a numerical worked in full units. For the second language, ask the tutor to set a short written piece each week and return it marked; language papers count towards the final result too, and Class 9 is the easiest year to strengthen them.
| Zone | How the tutor arrives | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Kukatpally, Miyapur & Nizampet | KPHB Colony or JNTU College on the Red Line; many homes are a short walk away | Avoid the highway's evening peak |
| Manikonda, Narsingi & Kokapet | Mostly by two-wheeler or car via the Outer Ring Road; Raidurg is the nearest metro | After school, before offices empty |
| Ameerpet, Begumpet & Punjagutta | The Red–Blue interchange at Ameerpet; Begumpet has metro and MMTS side by side | Ameerpet's main road crowds in the evening |
| Sainikpuri, Alwal & Trimulgherry | By road, or the MMTS Bolarum route; no metro this far north | Start after the rush towards Secunderabad |
| Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar & Vanasthalipuram | Red Line to LB Nagar, then an auto along the highway | Leave time for the last leg |
| Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki & Attapur | Bus or two-wheeler via Mehdipatnam; no metro in the zone | After the junction's evening rush |
Some families start entrance-oriented foundation classes in Class 9. They suit a student who already finds school maths and science comfortable and enjoys harder problems. For a student who is struggling with the school syllabus, they usually add pressure without fixing the basics. If your child does attend, a home tutor should cover school chapters and written answers, not repeat the coaching worksheet. Keep at least two evenings a week free of classes for homework, reading and rest.
Home lessons suit a student who drifts without someone at the table, and they let the tutor check notebooks and project work directly. Online lessons widen the choice when the right ICSE or IGCSE tutor lives across the city, or when a tower in the west means a long gate-to-flat walk before every class. Online maths needs the tutor to see the working live. Hybrid plans are common: one lesson at home, one online.
The first class is free, and switching tutor later costs nothing. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Class 9 quotes depend on the board, how many subjects, sessions per week and how far the tutor travels at your hour. You see every fee before the demo. See our pricing guide and Hyderabad home tuition fees.
KPHB Colony, the planned Kukatpally Housing Board township in numbered phases, has two Red Line stations close by, so tutors often walk in. Narsingi, headquarters of Gandipet mandal, is almost all newer gated towers, where security may call the flat before letting a visitor up. Begumpet, just north of Hussain Sagar, is unusually easy to reach, with metro and local train stations next to each other.
In Trimulgherry, which grew around a cantonment base set up in 1857, colony gates near the defence areas may check visitors, so tell the tutor which gate to use. Vanasthalipuram is mostly independent houses on plotted colonies beyond LB Nagar, and in Attapur addresses are often given by the pillar number of the airport expressway overhead.
Next year, Class 10 tutors in Hyderabad take over the board-year plan; younger students can start with Class 6–8 tutors. Share the board, subjects, locality and good days, and we suggest two or three tutors with fees shown. Book a free demo, browse tutor profiles or see home tutors across Hyderabad.
The SSC is written at the end of Class 10, but the state's examination reforms, linked on bse.telangana.gov.in, cover Classes 9 and 10 together, with school-based formative assessment beside the written paper. Class 9 is where those habits and the core chapters are built, so treat it as the first half of the SSC course.
By the school. CBSE and CISCE leave Class 9 to schools, and the Telangana public examination comes only at the end of Class 10. That makes a weak result easy to brush off, but the chapters return. On ICSE, promotion also needs 33% in five subjects including English and 75% attendance.
If two or more warning signs appear by the end of the first term, such as a sharp drop in maths, skipped physics numericals or incomplete notebooks, start then. That leaves most of the year to repair gaps before the board course. Waiting until the annual exam usually means carrying weak chapters into Class 10.
Often, yes. Class 9 is a good year for a single tutor covering both, provided they are confident across physics, chemistry and biology as well as maths. If one subject is clearly weaker, give it more of the weekly time rather than adding a second tutor straight away. Test both subjects during the free demo.
A tutor who compares the old and new syllabuses side by side and teaches only the gaps, rather than starting from scratch. Check which second language your child will now study and in which medium the papers are written. A few focused weeks at the start of Class 9 prevent problems from appearing in the board year.
Only if school maths and science already feel easy and the student enjoys harder problems. For a student who is struggling, foundation classes add load without fixing the basics. If your child does go, ask the home tutor to concentrate on school chapters and written answers rather than repeating coaching worksheets.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with senior classes, IB and IGCSE and entrance preparation toward the upper end. For Class 9 the board, subjects, frequency and the tutor's journey at your hour decide the quote. You see each fee before the free demo, and switching later is free.
