What home tuition costs in Hyderabad

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

IB physics tutor in Hyderabad: DP Physics at SL or HL, data questions and the investigation

IB Diploma Physics is often the subject where a bright Hyderabad student first meets a mark they did not expect. The content is familiar enough, but the exam asks for things Indian board papers rarely do: reading and judging an unfamiliar data set in Paper 1B, writing extended explanations in Paper 2, and planning a scientific investigation that is the student's own. This page explains the course as the IB's physics guide for first assessment in 2025 sets it out, where a tutor helps and where they must hold back, and how we find someone who can reach your home in Hyderabad. For other boards, start from physics home tutors in Hyderabad; for other IB subjects, the Hyderabad IB tutors hub.

What the course covers, and where students usually stall

The current guide groups DP Physics under five lettered themes: A, space, time and motion; B, the particulate nature of matter; C, wave behaviour; D, fields; and E, nuclear and quantum physics. Standard Level runs to 150 teaching hours and Higher Level to 240. Five topics are HL-only: rigid body mechanics and relativity in theme A, thermodynamics in B, induction in D and quantum physics in E. Theme C has no HL-only topic, though HL students take its shared topics further.

Typical sticking points, theme by theme
ThemeWhere time often goesWhat tutoring targets
AMomentum and energy problems with several stages; vectors in two dimensionsFree-body diagrams drawn every time; choosing conservation laws before equations
BLinking the gas laws to a particle picture; internal resistance in circuitsExplanations that connect the large-scale and particle views
CPhase, path difference and standing-wave patternsSketching wave diagrams before any calculation
DField and potential ideas that look alike across gravity and electricityA side-by-side comparison sheet the student builds themselves
EDecay calculations and energy in nuclear reactionsCareful units and steady practice with the data booklet

Each school picks its own route through the themes, so in term time a tutor follows the school's order and keeps a running list of weak spots for revision later.

How the final mark is divided

Eighty per cent of the grade comes from two exam papers and twenty per cent from the internal investigation:

  • Paper 1, 36%. Two parts taken in one sitting: 1A is multiple choice (25 questions at SL, 40 at HL) and 1B is a 20-mark set of data-based questions. The whole paper lasts an hour and a half at SL and two hours at HL.
  • Paper 2, 44%. Short-answer and extended questions: 55 marks in an hour and a half at SL, 90 marks in two and a half hours at HL.
  • Investigation, 20%. Marked out of 24, six marks for each of four criteria; around ten hours of work and a report capped at 3,000 words.

The data booklet and a calculator are permitted in both papers. Because a wrong 1A answer is not penalised, the only bad answer is a blank one. Separately from the physics grade, every science student also joins the IB's collaborative sciences project.

SL or HL: deciding with evidence

The usual reasons to take HL are plans for engineering, physics, or another maths-heavy degree, and real enjoyment of the subject. HL is not just more topics: Paper 2 is a much longer paper, and relativity, thermodynamics, induction and quantum physics are conceptually demanding. A student whose maths is shaky, especially algebra, vectors and graphs, will feel HL physics as a maths course in disguise. If the choice is still open in the first weeks of DP1, a tutor can set a few HL-style problems on the topics already taught and give the family an honest reading. For a longer discussion, read choosing SL or HL, and planning the IA and EE, and the IB maths tutor in Hyderabad page covers the maths side.

Paper 1B, data and uncertainty

Paper 1B gives students experimental data, often from a context they have not studied, and asks them to analyse it. The skills it rewards are learned over the two years, not in revision week:

  • reading a graph's gradient and intercept and saying what each means physically;
  • linearising a relationship so a straight-line graph can test it;
  • propagating uncertainties and drawing error bars;
  • judging whether data support a conclusion, and suggesting a fair improvement to the method.

A tutor should slip one short data question into each week from the start of DP1, even when the school topic is pure theory. By DP2, a student who has done fifty of these finds Paper 1B familiar rather than frightening.

Five habits for Paper 2

  • Start from a principle. Name the law or conservation idea before any numbers appear.
  • Show the substitution. Markschemes credit the method even when the final figure is off.
  • Units and significant figures on every final answer, consistent with the data given.
  • Explain in steps. For "explain" questions, a chain of short linked sentences beats one long one.
  • Use the data booklet as a tool from DP1 so the student knows where each equation sits.

The investigation: the student's work, the tutor's limits

For the internal assessment, each student pursues a research question of their own. Collaboration is allowed in groups of at most three, yet every member needs a distinct question and nobody may share raw data. The IB accepts data the student gathers in a lab or in the field, and also data drawn from spreadsheets, databases or simulations, which matters for a family without a home lab.

Fair help

Teaching the physics and the data-analysis techniques the question needs; explaining what each criterion rewards; asking questions that help the student test whether their idea is feasible in ten hours; checking the student understands uncertainty and graphing well enough to analyse their own results.

Not allowed

Choosing the question, designing the method, collecting or processing the data, writing or editing any part of the report. Any of these would breach the IB's academic-integrity rules and put the diploma at risk, and the school should know that the student has a tutor.

Starting DP Physics after SSC, CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE or the MYP

Strengths students bring, and the gap to close
Grade 10 courseBringsNeeds to build
Telangana SSCPhysical Science studied as its own paper, separate from biologyData analysis, uncertainties, open questions and extended written answers
CBSE Class 10Standard derivations and numericalsData-based questions and designing an investigation
ICSE Class 10Tidy, complete written solutionsHandling uncertainty; questions with less scaffolding
Cambridge IGCSE PhysicsSolid mechanics, waves and electricityHeavier algebra; the field concept across topics; error analysis as routine
IB MYPOpen inquiry and criterion-marked tasksQuick, accurate calculation under exam timing

A short bridge before DP1, on vectors, graphs, rearranging equations and the idea of uncertainty, removes most of the early shock. Students coming from Cambridge should also see our IGCSE physics tutor in Hyderabad page.

Two years of DP Physics tutoring, in four stages

A common pattern, adjusted to the school's calendar
StageMain workSessions a week
Opening weeks of DP1Vectors, graph reading, rearranging equations, the first uncertainty calculationsOne or two
Remainder of DP1School topics as taught, with a weekly 1B-style data question and short 1A setsOne at SL, two at HL
Investigation periodCriteria, analysis techniques and feasibility questions only; the report left to the studentTwo or three sessions spread over the window
DP2 to the examsRemaining themes, then full timed papers marked against IB markschemesTwo, rising before mocks

HL students usually need the second weekly session earlier than SL students, because the HL-only topics arrive on top of a longer Paper 2.

IB physics tutors by zone

IB physics specialists are few in any city, so we look along metro and MMTS lines and the Outer Ring Road. Notes from our area research:

More on each locality is on the Hyderabad tutors page.

Screen or sitting room: choosing the mode

Physics travels online better than many subjects: simulations, graphing tools and shared spreadsheets are natural on a screen, and they are exactly the tools the investigation and Paper 1B reward. A home tutor still helps with handwritten problem solving and with students who drift during a screen lesson. Families in the outer western and southern colonies, where the specialist pool is thin, often use one home session and one online. International schools in Hyderabad keep their own terms, so plan heavier weeks around the school's mock and IA deadlines.

Six things to test in the first lesson

  1. Which guide do you teach from? They should mention the five themes and first assessment 2025.
  2. Teach a Paper 1B-style question. Give them a short data set and watch how they handle uncertainty and the graph.
  3. SL or HL? Ask what they would look for to recommend one.
  4. The investigation. Ask where their help stops. An offer to design the method or draft any section rules them out.
  5. Pacing. How will they fit the school's order of themes and the mock calendar?
  6. Getting here. Which line or road, and a backup plan for heavy-traffic weeks.

Fees and getting started

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor sets their own fee, visible before the demo. The pricing guide and the Hyderabad tuition fees post explain the factors.

Tell us SL or HL, DP1 or DP2, the school's topic order if you have it, the IA timeline, your locality and free hours. You receive two or three matched tutors and can book the free demo with any of them; switching later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check, and the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. IB Physics Tutor in Hyderabad (DP SL & HL): common questions

What does an IB physics home tutor charge per hour in Hyderabad?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every IB physics tutor in Hyderabad sets their own fee, visible before the demo. SL or HL, the travel to your colony and the number of weekly sessions are what usually move it.

How do I find an IB physics tutor who can reach my home in Hyderabad?

To find an IB physics tutor in Hyderabad, tell us SL or HL, DP1 or DP2, the school's topic order, the IA timeline, your locality and free hours. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

How is IB DP Physics marked for students in Hyderabad?

IB DP Physics for Hyderabad students is marked 36% on Paper 1, 44% on Paper 2 and 20% on the internal investigation, under the guide first assessed in 2025. Paper 1 combines multiple choice with data-based questions. HL papers are longer: Paper 1A has 40 questions instead of 25, and Paper 2 carries 90 marks instead of 55.

How should a Hyderabad IB student prepare for physics Paper 1B?

A Hyderabad IB student should prepare for physics Paper 1B with one short data question every week from the start of DP1. The 20-mark section tests reading gradients and intercepts, linearising relationships, propagating uncertainties and judging conclusions, often in unfamiliar contexts. These skills build over two years, not in revision week.

Where does a Hyderabad tutor's help with the IB physics investigation stop?

A Hyderabad tutor may teach the physics and data-analysis techniques an IB physics investigation needs, explain the criteria and help test whether the idea fits ten hours. The tutor must not choose the question, design the method, process data or write any part of the report. The school should know about outside tutoring.

Does my Hyderabad child need a home lab for the IB physics investigation?

No, a Hyderabad child does not need a home lab for the IB physics investigation, because the IB also accepts data from spreadsheets, databases or simulations. Students may collaborate in groups of up to three, but each needs a distinct research question and nobody may share raw data. The report is capped at 3,000 words.

Should a Hyderabad student take IB physics at SL or HL?

IB physics HL suits Hyderabad students planning engineering, physics or another maths-heavy degree who genuinely enjoy the subject. HL adds rigid body mechanics, relativity, thermodynamics, induction and quantum physics, and a much longer Paper 2. Weak algebra, vectors or graphs make HL hard going, so an early tutor assessment in DP1 helps.

Is DP Physics a big jump after Telangana SSC Physical Science in Hyderabad?

DP Physics is a jump in style more than content for a Hyderabad student coming from Telangana SSC Physical Science. What is new is data analysis and uncertainty, open questions with less guidance, extended written answers and an investigation the student designs. A short bridge on vectors, graphs and uncertainty before DP1 removes most of the shock.

Is home or online IB physics tuition better in Hyderabad?

Online IB physics tuition works well in Hyderabad, because simulations, graphing tools and shared spreadsheets are exactly what Paper 1B and the investigation reward. A home tutor still helps with handwritten problem solving and students who drift on screen. Families in the outer western and southern colonies often use one home session and one online.

What should I test in a free demo with an IB physics tutor in Hyderabad?

In a free demo with an IB physics tutor in Hyderabad, ask which guide they teach from and listen for the five themes and first assessment 2025. Give them a short data set to see how they handle uncertainty and graphs. Ask where their investigation help stops, and how they will fit the school's mock calendar.
