Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In a city where most children write the Telangana SSC or CBSE, an ICSE student's maths can look familiar from a distance and quite different up close. There is commercial mathematics with GST and shares, matrices and loci in Class 10, no single prescribed textbook, and examiners who give marks for the method as carefully as for the answer. This page is written by Abhinandan Tiwary, who teaches Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths on NXTutors, with the ISC section by Ajay Vatsyayan, who teaches IB, IGCSE and ISC maths. It explains what the CISCE expects, how we pick tutors who teach ICSE regularly, and how to plan the step after Class 10, when Hyderabad families choose between ISC, Intermediate and CBSE. It sits under our maths home tutors in Hyderabad page and the ICSE and ISC tutors in Hyderabad hub.
Most of the core topics, from quadratic equations to trigonometry, appear on every Indian board. What separates ICSE in practice is threefold:
The habits that win marks in Class 10 are built well before it. In Classes 6 to 8 a tutor's job is arithmetic fluency, comfort with negative numbers and fractions, and a notebook layout in which every step is visible. Class 9 is the real jump: algebra becomes heavier, geometry asks for reasons, and the first full-length papers appear. If your child arrives in Class 9 still guessing at algebraic manipulation, that is the moment to start tuition, not the winter of Class 10.
Hyderabad has one local factor at this age: under Telangana's 2018 law, Telugu is a compulsory language up to Class 10 in every school, ICSE included. When you send a request, mention whether your child also needs support in Telugu so we can plan the week as a whole.
| Unit | Main content | What regular practice targets |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial mathematics | GST, recurring deposit accounts, shares and dividends | Reading the question's data correctly; face value against market value; tax on each stage of a sale |
| Algebra | Linear inequations, quadratic equations, ratio and proportion, factor and remainder theorems, matrices, arithmetic and geometric progressions | Writing solution sets on a number line; order of matrix multiplication; choosing the right progression formula |
| Coordinate geometry | Reflection, section and mid-point formulae, equation of a line | Which axis or point a reflection uses; signs in the section formula |
| Geometry | Similarity, loci, circles, constructions | A stated reason for each step; construction arcs left visible |
| Mensuration | Cylinders, cones, spheres and combined solids; melting and recasting | Radius or diameter; consistent units; volumes conserved when shapes change |
| Trigonometry | Identities, heights and distances | Proving one side to the other without skipping lines; a labelled diagram first |
| Statistics and probability | Mean, median, mode, histograms, ogives; simple probability | Reading the median and quartiles from an ogive accurately; listing outcomes completely |
Commercial mathematics is the unit to start early. Its questions follow recognisable patterns and, once the vocabulary is secure, become some of the most reliable marks on the paper. Our ICSE Class 10 maths board guide works through the chapters in more detail.
The Class 10 written paper carries 80 marks, with 20 more from internal assessment during the year. On the 2026 specimen paper, Section A is compulsory and worth 40 marks, with short questions, including multiple-choice items, spread across the syllabus. Section B is worth another 40, and the candidate answers any four of its longer, multi-part questions. Rough work goes on the same sheet as the answer.
Two lessons follow. Section A reaches every unit, so no chapter can be skipped in the hope that it will not appear. And the Section B choice is a skill: in timed practice, a student should read every question, settle on four within the opening minutes and stay with them. A tutor who sets full papers should time that decision as well as the answers. CISCE specimen papers and ICSE past papers should be the main practice; other boards' questions are useful for drilling a topic but not for exam style.
| Part of the year | Sessions are used for | Per week |
|---|---|---|
| First term | Commercial mathematics and algebra alongside school; written-method habits fixed early | Two |
| Middle of the year | Geometry, mensuration and trigonometry; internal-assessment work guided, not written for the student | Two |
| Pre-board season | Full timed papers with the Section B choice practised; error log by unit | Two or three |
| Final weeks | Specimen and past papers, weak units only, rest before the exam | As needed |
Many Hyderabad ICSE students face a real choice at sixteen. Some stay with CISCE for the ISC; others move to a junior college for the state's Intermediate course, often MPC; a few switch to CBSE. The maths each route asks for is different.
| Route | How maths is assessed | What an ICSE student must adjust to |
|---|---|---|
| ISC (CISCE) | Class 12: 80-mark theory paper plus 20 marks for project work; from the 2027 exam, seven compulsory units with no Section B or C choice | The jump in calculus and the project |
| Intermediate MPC (TGBIE) | Two maths papers, IA and IB; from 2026-27, first year has 60 theory and 15 internal marks in each | New textbooks, activity records and a viva, plus the state entrance alongside |
| CBSE Class 11-12 | NCERT-based papers set by CBSE | NCERT's order and question style |
For ISC, Ajay Vatsyayan's note: Class 11 is where ISC is won or lost. Functions, limits and early calculus there carry straight into the Class 12 paper, and students who coast through Class 11 spend Class 12 catching up. ISC Applied Mathematics is a separate subject, aimed at commerce-leaning students. Many ISC science students also prepare for JEE, which a tutor can plan alongside; see JEE home tutors in Hyderabad and the national ISC maths tutor guide.
Students moving to Intermediate should read our Telangana Board tutors in Hyderabad page. The state's entrance syllabus follows the Intermediate syllabus, so ISC or CBSE students who plan to sit it should compare chapters early; our TG EAPCET tutors page explains how.
Regular ICSE maths tutors are fewer than CBSE or state-board ones, so we look along metro and rail lines to widen the pool. Notes from our area research:
See every locality on our Hyderabad tutors page and the east and south Hyderabad tuition guide.
Because ICSE marks depend on visible working, a tutor in the room has a real edge: they see the skipped step or the erased construction arc as it happens. Online suits revision of commercial mathematics, quick doubt-clearing before a test and specimen-paper review, provided the notebook is on camera. A common pattern is two home sessions a week in Class 10, with an extra online session in the pre-board weeks.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, shown before the demo; our pricing guide and the Hyderabad fees post explain the factors.
Send us the class, the school's textbook if you know it, the units that worry you, your locality and free hours. Two or three matched tutors come back to you, the first class is a free demo, and changing tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; you can also browse tutor profiles.

The written paper carries 80 marks and internal assessment adds 20. On the 2026 specimen paper, Section A is compulsory and worth 40 marks, with short and multiple-choice questions across the syllabus; in Section B, also 40 marks, candidates answer any four longer questions. Essential working must be shown, and rough work stays beside the answer.
Some can, but ICSE has topics other boards treat lightly, such as GST, shares and dividends, matrices and loci, and it marks method step by step. Schools also choose their own textbooks under the CISCE syllabus. We look for tutors who teach ICSE regularly and can adapt to your school's book.
For most students, Class 9, when algebra gets heavier and geometry starts asking for reasons. Starting then leaves time to build written-method habits and to begin commercial mathematics early. Students who start in Class 10 can still do well, but the year is fuller and there is less room for steady practice.
It depends on the plan after school. ISC keeps CISCE's style, with an 80-mark Class 12 maths paper and 20 project marks. Intermediate MPC has two maths papers and, from 2026-27, internal assessment in the first year, and its syllabus is the base for the state entrance. A tutor can help weigh both.
From the 2027 examination, the CISCE ISC maths syllabus has seven compulsory units and no longer offers a choice between Section B and Section C, so every candidate covers the same content. The Class 12 assessment remains an 80-mark theory paper plus 20 marks of project work. ISC Applied Mathematics is a separate subject.
Under the Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act, 2018, Telugu is a compulsory language in Classes I to X in every school in the state, whatever its board. If your child needs help with Telugu as well as maths, tell us when you send the request so we can plan both.
