Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai (/tuition-jobs/madurai) and Tiruchirappalli (/tuition-jobs/tiruchirappalli) have their own tuition-jobs pages with zones, and tutors in those cities should pick their zones there. Salem, Tiruppur, Erode, Vellore and Tamil Nadu's other towns start from this page. Join with your town and nearby localities. A family's home request goes to the tutors closest to them before anyone further away is considered, so a Thanjavur tutor is offered Thanjavur families first. Online lessons are open to all tutors regardless of town, matched by subject, class and board, which lets you teach a student in another state from home.
A Tamil Nadu student may sit the SSLC or Higher Secondary through the Directorate of Government Examinations, or study under CBSE, ICSE or another board. The SSLC maths and science papers come in Tamil and English versions, so say which medium you teach. The directorate's question bank and sample papers are a good thing to read before a demo. Each request gives the parent two or three tutors and their fees, set by the tutors; the first class is a free demo, and switching later is free for families. Higher Secondary tutors should name their subjects.

SSLC (Std X), Higher Secondary (Std XII)
The Directorate of Government Examinations conducts the State Board examinations for Std X (SSLC) and Std XII. The State Board of School Examinations was formed in 2011 by merging two earlier boards. The directorate has seven regional offices, holds special supplementary examinations for students who do not pass in March or April, and publishes a question bank and sample papers.
Classes 1–12; board examinations in Classes 10 and 12
Our Chennai and Coimbatore pages both list CBSE. A Tamil Nadu tutor who teaches it beside the State Board should plan CBSE lessons from NCERT and the current sample papers on cbseacademic.nic.in, and label each class by board so that a request for one does not reach a tutor of the other.
ICSE (Class 10), ISC (Class 12)
ICSE and ISC appear on our Coimbatore page in some depth and on our Chennai page as well. A tutor coming from State Board teaching should expect the council's syllabus to be ordered differently and its examiners to credit full, organised working; the specimen papers on cisce.org are the place to start.
Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes
Our Chennai page contrasts a Class 7 State Board learner with an IB Chemistry HL candidate to show how differently they must be taught. The Diploma mixes final exams with internally assessed coursework, and maths comes as Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, each at Standard or Higher Level.
IGCSE, usually around Classes 9–10
For Cambridge IGCSE, our Chennai page says success comes from command words, the correct tier and past papers marked against the official scheme. A tutor elsewhere in Tamil Nadu who knows IGCSE can teach it online, since those requests are matched on subject and board rather than distance.

Tiruchirappalli tutors who teach SSLC maths or science should say whether they teach in Tamil, English or both. The directorate's SSLC papers come in Tamil and English versions, so the medium decides whether you suit a particular student.
Salem tutors who will teach two children from the same home in one visit can say so on the profile. Families with siblings may ask, and the demo is where you agree how the time is shared and which subjects come first.
Tiruppur is close to Coimbatore, which has its own tuition-jobs page with zones. A Tiruppur tutor who can reach a few Coimbatore localities may add them, after their own town, so home requests stay within comfortable reach.
Erode tutors who teach Std XI and XII commerce or computer science can name each subject. Senior students compare tutors on depth in one subject, and the directorate's question bank gives you material for a focused demo.
Vellore teachers who help students prepare for the special supplementary examinations can show that as its own line. Families whose child did not pass in March or April look for that experience, and the directorate's site gives the details.
Thoothukudi tutors interested in Std VI to VIII can make those classes their focus. They connect arithmetic with algebra and general science with separate subjects, and a parent unsure about that transition looks for a tutor who knows it well.
Tirunelveli tutors teaching Std XII subjects should name each one precisely, not just Higher Secondary. Senior students compare tutors on subject depth, and the directorate's question bank and sample papers are sensible to read before a demo.
Thanjavur tutors who teach Tamil or English as subjects can describe the classes and the skills they focus on: reading, grammar or writing. A language tutor is chosen on method, and a few clear sentences about yours help a parent decide.
Dindigul tutors preparing a first lesson can ask the parent for a recent test paper and the lesson in progress. A demo built on that paper shows the family how you would work with their child every week.
Hosur sits on the Karnataka border, so a tutor here may meet families on Tamil Nadu's State Board and on Karnataka's SSLC. List each board you have taught separately; if you can reach particular Bengaluru localities, add them by name after Hosur itself.
Nagercoil tutors should write the exact locality they live in before adding anywhere else. Home matching starts from the family's address and widens step by step, so a precise base keeps nearby requests coming to you first.
Karur tutors starting out in private tuition can begin with the classes and subjects they know most thoroughly. A family compares two or three profiles before the demo, and a focused, accurate one is easier to trust.
Some Kanchipuram tutors may be able to reach parts of Chennai. If so, name those localities one by one after your own town; Chennai's tuition-jobs page is organised by zones, and specific places keep requests realistic.

The directorate's March 2026 SSLC set shows maths and science in a Tamil and an English version. If you teach in one medium only, say so on your profile so you are not matched with a student using the other.
The directorate holds special supplementary examinations for Std X and XII students who do not pass in the March/April examinations. Tutors who help with that preparation can say so on their profile.
